  1. 1 john1:5 this is the message we heard from him and proclaim to you. Verse 8 if We say we have no sin We device ourselves Verse 9 if We confess our sin. Verse 10 if We say we have no sin, We make him to be a liar. Taken from the AV. John is using inclusive language that say he , those he is writing to and anyone who reads his letter is a sinner, saved by grace, but still a sinner. To say that in chapter 1 he switchs from talking to Christians to talking to non Christians is to tear scripture apart.
  2. Some people believe that they have the final choice as to whether they follow Jesus. They see all the verses about God choosing, predestining etc etc as God offering them the choice.
  3. Yet John also wrote to Christians in 1 john1:8, if we say we don't sin we decide ourselves and the truth is not in us. We are not perfect and while Jesus has changed us we are still in a world where we are tempted and we often fail, which is why verse 9 goes on to tell us God will forgive us.
  4. Science is so vast, covering so many specialist subjects that no one scientist is an expert in them all. This mean one scientist or atheist will quote an ' expert' in a field as an authority or they will use an celebrity scientist as an authority, like Dawkins or Brian Cox's etc etc It isn't just atheists, Christians also appeal to authority figures, with wel know preachers or apologists.
  5. I think it depends on the conversation and about body language. There is nothing wrong with discussing or talking with a member of the opposite sex. The quarry is how are they and how are you reacting to being in proximity to that person? Does one find that at every church meeting there is an intense conversation with that one person? What language is being used? There are no hard and fast rules, one just has to be aware of the possibility of either giving the wrong message or of the possibility of being more than just tempted.
  6. Welcome to the forum. May I suggest you check out the Christianity explored web site for churches in your area who run this course and contact the nearest. The course allows you to meet with people and discus/argue that meetings topic, it also allows you to get to know local Christians and to decide whether you would like to attend there church services. Otherwise was the Bible, start with the New testament and ask questions here.
  7. As Jesus said, if we love him we will obey him.
  8. Exactly the same as between a woman and a man she is not married to, or for a man towards a woman he is not married to.
  9. It is a sign of his love for us that he gave us rules to follow Rules that help us learn something about his character.
  10. Context is always key. It is pointing to the supremacy of Jesus to the of sacrifices. That he sacrificed himself, not in an earthly temple but before Almighty God him self, once for all.
  11. The devil is real and he does work through demons and followers of him. Be very careful to live closely to Jesus, to know what you are talking about. If you attend a church that only talks about having faith, of just believing , then you are not trained as a Christian. Should you talk with this friend,I would suggest asking her about death and what happens next? Does she believe in life after death, in heaven and hell? How does one end in hell? John 3:18 is were I would go. Yo aren't arguing for or against witchcraft or Christianity but about the afterlife and the fact that it is God who controls this. By implication one should then follow God.
  12. Obedient/disciplined, loving/caring and repentant.
  13. Do you know what other forms of Christianity believes and seeks to practise? How do you define Pentecostalism? Is it important? That is if one doesn't have what Pentecostalism deems important is one a Christian?
  14. You have been given good advice about how to limit and how to set boundaries. I would add, talk to your husband. He was brought up by her and will know all too well how distructive her constant criticism is. You need to establish a common front, may be he can explain how distressing you find her endless negativity, that she never has anything nice to say about anyone or anything. Unfortunately I doubt whether she can change, so when you ring her at! He agreed weekly times, do not argue or dispute anything, just agree. However I think you should both talk to her and explain that her negativity towards her grandchildren will drive them away from her. That if she wants them to want to come and see her, she needs to be welcoming towards them and what hey have or are doing. Possible have the phone on ' speaker ' while calling her and ask a grandchild to come and say hello, only for them to make aloud comment about not wanting to come and be run down for nothing. Hearing her grandchildren reacting negatively may be the shock to make her think. Do try to talk to her and pray for her.
  15. What do your teachers think of how you are being treated? Have you seen a doctor, psychiatrist etc and are you getting any medication etc. What do your parents say about how you are being treated?
  16. No it is protecting what is yours and preventing it being stolen. May I suggest you read about Corrie ten Boom's war time deception of Basie's while helping Jews escape. Not everyone is able to live in an ideal world.
  17. Oops, hit post in error. No One is worthy of God's unending, limitless love, mercy and grace. Have you not read in Romans, that when we were Enemies of God Jesus died to save us.
  18. Is this your pastor? If not how do you know he is willing to talk about his counselling. May I suggest that you talk to your friend and gently explain that sin needs to be repented of and stopped.
  19. 1/ he is a she. 2/ selfish people do not suddenly change, this father will not help his daughter take her child his grandson to a hospital appointment. 3/ the whole family takes advantage of her. 4/ we are to be as wise as serpents and as gentle as doves. Getting her car out of the way of a selfish, unreasoning father and brother, needs her to be sneaky.
  20. while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!Romans 5 verse 10. Shows you something of the Love Jesus has for you. If this doesn't encourage you, then you need to talk to your minister.
  21. There is no evidence that he did.
  22. An additional resource for you, it is aimed at what a Christian man should expect of a Christian wife/mother, but is equally appropriate to be applied to a prospective husband. Go to the web wintery knight and type in the search bar, what Christian men expect of a Christian wife/mother to know how to defend Christianity. ( Sorry, system error won't let me copy and paste. )
  23. Talking about what? What was in today's Bible reading? The Christian responce to something in the news? Any man you marry has to be a spiritual leader for your family. Ask him how he will fulfill this role? Ask him how he lives as a Christian in his place of work? Do they even know he is a Christian?
  24. It wasn't untill after the flood that God permitted the eating of meat, but that doesn't mean prior to then that a vegan diet was eaten. Able kept domesticated animals and while they were sheep and goats would have been kept for there will, they would also have been milked and that would be drunk or eaten as cheese. If you want to eat more healthy reduce the amount of processed food you eat. Buy high quality grass feed beef etc, use equally higher quality fruit and veg. Avoid pizza, burgers etc etc.
  25. If one cannot prove one assertion, it follows that the opposite is true.
