I have also found that since I have been here at WB I have wanted to study more about the Bible. Partly because I don't want to look like an idiot but mainly because some folks really offer different perspectives on subjects that I like to check out and read more about. Sometimes it can make your beliefs stronger and other times it gives you a new perspective on God's word.

I too read a One Year Bible. I like how it is organized and I am not just picking verses out of the Bible. When reading the Bible we have to be careful to not just breeze through it, like we are "doing our time" for the day. We need to meditate on it and let it sink into our spirit. I also like to read the Psalm's during my prayer time. Hope you begin to dig deeper into the Word, it will change your life, if you let it! :t2:

you just want ammo to argue with people :t2: j/k

You are right tho, many of the views i had before coming to worthy i have researched more extensively because of things others have said. I now research everything i want answers to, instead of just taking others opinions or thoughts as Gospel.

God Bless,

Dave

Josh-

I applaude you for your "noble"(Acts 17:11) efforts. If I had known at age 17 what I know now.......!I keep the below near me. Others on the board may have seen this. I do not know who wrote it, but I feel it is well written.

"The Holy Bible

Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, and practice it to be holy. It contains light to direct you, food to support you, and comfort to cheer you.

It is the traveller's map, the pilgrim's staff, the pilot's compass, the soldier's sword, and the Christian's charter. Here, too, heaven is opened, and the gates of hell disclosed.

Jesus Christ is its grand subject, our good its design, and the glory of God its end.

It should fill the memory, rule the heart, and guide the feet. Read it slowly, frequently, prayerfully. It is a mine of wealth, a paradise of glory, and a river of pleasure.

It is given you in life, will be opened at the judgment, and be remembered forever. It involves highest responsibility, will reward the greatest labor, and condemn all who trifle with its sacred contents.

Owned, It is riches; studied, It is wisdom; trusted, It is salvation; loved, It is character; and obeyed, It is power."

I also read a One Year Bible which whichever chapter/s I may be reading in each particular day adds Psalms which add to the meaning of the subject. Also, when

reading Kings and Samuel, they are cross-matched with quotations from Chronicles. Also, I study the Bible daily.

i dont read the bible at all... just kiddin' just kiddin'! i wish i had a web cam to see everybody's face when they read that!

anyway, there is no time limit as you put it, i happen to feel reading contextually is better than reading by chapters. b/c the chapter breaks were put in by one's opinion of where they thought it should break. sometimes it fits and sometimes it doesnt. i sometimes find a subject and then read them in light of the WHOLE context. finding the context breaks is interesting b/c you are forced to actually read and understand what is going on. i will say this though, if your are not sure of what a certain area is talking about, you dont have to take the commentary's words as golden either. they are in fact giving their opinion. the commentary is very helpful in stating facts like what is going on around this time period, or background on certain people.

my favorite's to read are the interlinear bible, which you may want to wait on.(it is the literal translation from hebrew/greek to english) the words are really out of place. then i have a hebrew/greek study bible which has key words and phrases in the corresponding languages, helping give more insight to what the words actually meant when they were written; aside from our thinking in terms of the english language. lastly, i think the 'message" is a must! as someone has said already, it is like a paraphrased version of the bible. three of MANY great tools out there. your heart seems to be in the right place, as Jim W. said, i also wish i had even a desire to read God's word when i was 17... or 18,19,20, for that matter!

If you want to get through the Bible in a year, you can do it in about 20 minutes a day. There is a site that I know a number of people have used called www.BibleReadThrough.com. Its cool because you can read through the Bible in a year, or you can even design your own plans. It will track your progress as you go along. There even audio available if you just want to listen, and RSS feeds if your techy.

While reading the posts here I had an idea. What if you could find someone to read the Bible TO every day? There would have to be someone who would want to hear you read it. Perhaps a neighbor, or someone at a retirement community, maybe someone at a hospital or even your own little brother or sister. I heard it said recently that we are lead to minister that which we need to learn the most.

Follow your own heart and when you close your eyes and pray you will know what way is best for you by Gods' will.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
