pokemaughan, did you read all of the information on that site?

I skimmed through it. It just seems to more or less a tabloid pot-shot to me. Conspiracy theories and all that kind of stuff were always pretty silly to me. Especially in regards to the Bible.

I thought the same, so I went out and spent the money for The Message and went through it very carefully. What they are stating is fact. What could be considered questionable is it's relationship with the New Age and Gnostic concepts and terms. I have been studying New Age and the Emergent/Emerging Church for some time now, and I can say that what they present is pretty close to what I have found through my studies.

Be careful about what you toss aside when a Brother or Sister takes the time to warn you of something. It is out of love that we do so, and out of guidance from God to warn of false teachings.

Look for yourself ... do the homework ... your walk with Him is well worth the time you will invest.

God Bless,

Alan

I thank everyone for their time and effort to answer my question.

I am personally drawn to the NASB, though I own and read several versions.

I even bought and read the NLT at times, I find it particularly useful when sharing with a non-believer, who might not understand a more traditional bible at first.

I know that you have it mostly settled in your mind sir but I just wanted to say that I am a KJV diehard!!! My husband reads the NLT and I tease him all the time about his heathen Bible.

I am rather merciless and one track minded.. :exclaimation:

When it comes to Scripture memorization and study purposes, it is best to pick one version and stick with it, in order to keep things straight in your mind. Other versions are good for comparison, but you need one primary version that you read, study and memorize, take to church and so on.

My primary version of choice is the KJV, but I own several other translations, and sometimes, they can help untangle some of the Elizabethan English of the KJV. I would recommend if one is using hte KJV to purchase a KJV Bible dictionary that helps to explain some of the archaic, out-of-use terms that it has.

The KJV is one of those versions that people either swear by or swear at. It really is a good, reliable translation, but all translations have weaknesses.

One really good modern translation that I have been turned on to is the Holman Christian Standard Version. The NLT is also good, and has a very devotional tone to it, at least to me.

Hey shiloh357, I happen to own one of those Holman CSV's. We have many, many others, some really old ones as well. We only use them if we run into difficulty and for further clarification/perspective but otherwise noooo. I really prefer a good concordance and greek interlinear for instance when studying and other helps which cause one to search things out for oneself.I actually only really get the KJV which I don't even see the thees and thous quite honestly; it's almost like The HS does an automatic interception as I read, I see it same as we speak, no joke. I know that ppl really like the Amplified for instance but it's too wordy and makes me tired literally..

Strange how we are all so different. It's what makes the world go 'round..albeit some make it more dizzying.. haha

I really like my KJV. Sorry but I'm very stubborn about it. Basically the other modern translation question to many sciptures. I fell like it the devil old trick of wispering in the human ear "hath God said" (Genesis 3:1). I have no problem with people using other translation but please ignore the footnotes on certain verses like Mark 16:9-20; John 7:53-8:11 just to name a couple. We either have the complete word of God or Jesus was a liar! "Heaven and earth shall pass away but my words shall not pass away." (Matthew 24:35; Mark 13:31; Luke 21:33) This verse is listed three times I think it is because Jesus knew in the distance future people would come along and start to question His Words. See also Psalms 119:89 and Matthew 5:18; Deuteronomy 12:32; Proverbs 30:6 and Revelation 22:18-19. I know people wil sayl the King James had 5 editions (I think it is 5) but I believe that is because the word was purified. (Psalms 12:6)

Yep yep Paul, we be on the same track.. they will never get it away from me because the Holy Spirit clearly led me to use the KJV only and all other versions hold no interest for me. With the excepetion maybe of the NASB, once in a blue moon.

In general, there's nothing wrong with what version someone uses. There are exceptions, but the Holy Spirit will steer us away from them. I do hear some that think that the King James Version is the only proper version to use, and they quote Revelation 22: 18-19, in saying that those who add to what's written in this book will go to Hell (I'm paraphrasing). That doesn't mean that we cannot use other versions, as the King James Version is not even close to being the original version of the Word of God.

What you say is correct, if the person that the Holy Spirit is trying to direct knows and listens to His voice. The problem is that most do not. They are young Christians who are seeking to learn about God in the most comfortable reading material. Unless there are those to direct them, they end up with weak understandings due to their choice of bible versions that have become popular today.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
