I'm not sure I understand Matthew 7:6. "Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you." (KJV)

Isn't it our job to spread the gospel to those that may not have heard, and only then if they hear not to dust off our sandals? Shiloh62

If you note in the Gospels, there came a point when Jesus refused to answer the Pharisees and Sadducees and the like.

There comes a point where we can recognize a person has stopped their ears to hearing the Gospel and just want to argue. At that point we need to stop playing their game and move on.

I have one friend who actually came to Christ because some Christians did just that. He was an avid atheist who took pleasure in arguing down what the Christians had to say. One night when he met them again at their home, they told him to his face they could tell he was arguing for the sake of arguing, had no intentions of listening to them, and that they were done with him, and then forced him to leave the house. It just so happened that the Lord was doing something in his heart at the time, and reality hit him with the rejection and that drove him to find God.

I am not going to open my Bible and study it before I respond. Sorry.

When I hear the word pearls, I think of pearls of wisdom. When I think on this scripture, I see the notion of not sharing GODly wisdom with worldly folk. That does not mean not to share the gospel with them, sorry to disagree with Onelight here.

Before a person can digest the wisdom of GOD, they first have to have a relationship with HIM and a desire to understand HIS wisdom. Placing the wisdom of GOD infront of one who has rejected the truth of CHRIST will result in them turning on you as a fool.

"Trust in the LORD with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding" is some of the greatest wisdom you can learn. Yet, if you say this to an unsaved person...

Kross, where do we disagree? I'm confused ...

I didn't word that well. It was late. I just meant that I did not relate it to spiritually discerning who to share the gospel with and who not to. (which is what I got from your post) Although I do agree with the HOLY SPIRIT leading us to share with specific people (anyone who knows me knows I am a believer that GOD chooses whom HE is going to save and will ensure HE sends people to them)

Here's another thought..

spiritual riches=spiritual gifts=spiritual treasures which if shared randomly with the carnal or the unbelieving they most certainly will turn again and bite you back! can mean the unbelieving christian community are the worst offenders I know of!

I don't see where this is talking specifically about sharing The Word ie. preaching the Gospel..

It's from The Sermon on The Mount. Reading in context, what I see is all encompassing. How did you arrive at your conclusion pls. that it's mainly to do with preaching? I would be most interested to know. Thanks. :group-hug:

This is my position Nebula. I believe the Holy Spirit will direct when the time comes to hold back the pearls. Only he knows who's the swine or dog!

I would agree with sweet~lady on this one. I don't think he is really talking about spreading the gospel.

It is metaphorical but draws, in part, on the imageary of the sacrifices. Just as you would not throw the meat that belonged to God's altar to dogs, likewise you should be careful and reverent in how we handle the things of God.

We should use prudence in how and with whom we share what God has done in our life.

I suppose a literal reading of the text would to farcical.

I think it means, don't share your most personal feelings with a bunch of idiots, because they will use it against you.

Wow, that sounds like the place I work-anything you share willl be used against you at my job- I guess thats what is meant by brushing off your sandals and moving on!Shiloh62

I've always wondered about this myself. One of my dear friends is a recovering drug addict among other things. I've known him and been witnessing to him for 5 years and am only now starting to see the fruits of that. At what point are we to stop sewing the pearls?

If the seed is producing fruit, they guy is not a swine anyway.

Dogs and swine are both references to unclean animals. You can usually tell a pig or a dog type individual fairly easily. They're ones who interrupt with a hearty "I don't wanna hear that (expletive deleted)!" So, don't tell 'em. God will understand.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
