Well, this is interesting.

It turns out the animal was found in Germany.

So these guys are claiming the "missing link" between lemur-primates and monkey-primates lived in Germany?

I wonder if they try to explain this in the History Channel documentary.

Perhaps this being the 200 year anniversary of Darwin's birth, a big evolution discovery was deemed fitting.

I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savioor in 1957. I'm also a Biologist/Biochemist. I would the first to admit that there are dishonest scientists but there are also dishonesty to be found in all area of the society.

I honestly believe that God made not only this planet earth but the entire somewhat mysterious universe. I've prayed about this for years and truly believe the Holy Spirit has given me guidance and help in speaking His clarification of some "literalist" interpretaton of His word.

I've found that many do not know the scientific method, the basis for all hypothesis, theories, and laws. Without understanding God's scientific method it is impossible for one to accept God's truth beyond literal translation.

I've heard it said that evolution is only a theory and that is true. In the scientific method a "theroy" is a statement based on evidence that is testable and varifiable. That does not mean any theory is "proven". It really means there is a large volume of evidence supporting the statement. It also means that a theory is not sacrosanct. As new evidence is brought forward then the theory is either thrown out completely or modified. In the theory of evolution this has been true many times.

God is Love and He has placed many great truths in our universe. I believe God urges us to find His truths beyond what many Christians believe.

Since hearing about this I have read a couple of articles about " Ida".

1) One article states that the specimen was " squashed to the thickness of a beer mat" by the pressures of the earth and rock on top of it. Something being squashed to this thickness would not necessarily produce a true silhouette and leave much room for speculation no matter how educated.

2) Both articles i read state the specimen was discovered by an amateur, and had been tampered with to create a complete skeleton. This specimen was also owned by more than one person before being discovered by more learned people, leaving room for more tampering that may not be evident or revealed.

3) " 2 years of secret analyzing ", I fail to see the need for this, and very suspicious of it just being hidden until the 200th anniversary. Two years is plenty of time to fool with something and speculate and conceive a story.

4) These folks have a track record. Much is known about the dishonestly surrounding the " Lucy" finding and presentation. Why should we believe this to be a more honest presentation.

5) Lastly, it is stated that the publication in a peer level scientific journal makes no such claim as the " missing link". So they feel comfortable telling this to the public, but shy from it when facing their peers, for me, that speaks volumes.

The point about the term 'missing link' is that it is a misnomer, based on a misunderstanding of evolution and what a transitional fossil is. Scientists don't really use the term, but journalists frequently do, to the annoyance of many people. The general reporting on this find from the press has been pretty poor to say the least so that is probably the reason for many of the misunderstandings, i.e. people writing about things they themselves don't really understand.
