We each have built our theology a certain way, developing from what is important to us. Here is a list of ways that we can gather our information to base our theology on. Reading them over, I am curious as to how each of us places the importance. If you read them and decide that you have more then one choice for a number, say you have two that you see the same importance, then it is OK to list them side by side. You may also choose not to include one or more.

Keep in mind that this is meant for each of us to better understand how we come to accept our beliefs and is not meant for debate. There is no right or wrong way, no grades.

In the following, the terms mean:

Scripture - the bible

Tradition - Religious information that has been handed down to us from various sources. (How the Apostles acted, creeds, etc.)

Reason - Information that comes through the human mind’s capacity for logical, rational, and analytic thought.

General Revelation - Nature

Experience - Information that comes through direct encounter, participation, or observation.

Emotions - Information that comes through subjectively experienced psychological feelings.

  1. Scripture
  2. Tradition
  3. Reason
  4. General Revelation
  5. Experience
  6. Emotions

I'll answer in two parts if you don't mind.

First on how I first came to accept my beliefs or theology came in this order.

Experience

General Revelation

Emotions

Reason

Scripture

Tradition

Today, I would rearrange the order.

Scripture

Reason

General Revelation

Experience

Emotions

Tradition

No, I don't mind. I added more of an explanation to what Tradition is. If anyone has any questions about any of the meanings, please ask, so we all can be on the same page. I have a tendency of not being clear enough at times. Again, there is no right nor wrong.

Hmmm that is a tough question, because I am not 100% sure how I would answer. I guess, my impulsive answer would be this:

I would say Scripture is the most important...but without Reason, General Revelation, Experience, Tradition, and Emotions, how would I understand Scripture or rather would I have come to accept Scripture? I can't be sure. I would say a combination of General Revelation and Experience paved the way for me to embrace Scripture...and Reason has helped me understand and stay firm...while Tradition has just opened my mind.

Wonder if that made any sense

i can add to this

when i was young and living in yugoslavia it was religon and traditions

when i was saved i strugled as religon and the way i was brought up by my mothers parents who were catholics and my fathers father who was an orthadox croatian i found it hard to just stick to one side i sort off found my self being pulled part of me wanted to hold on to religon the other part of me wanted to hold on to the traditions that were passed on to me i could not decide

know that i have matured and am stronger in my walk i dont want nothing to do with religon i hate the damage its done in me and in my country

i had to think hard and sit back for a while and hear is my list i was not going to add anything

1 revelation

2 emotions

3 experiance

4 reason

100 % emotions 100 % percent experiance 100 % percent reason

i saw that being religous and holding on to religon was getting me no were

i even saw that the traditions that wer passed on to me i could not decide as a child which way to go i wanted to please my mothers parents who i loved very much and do the right thing to even looking at becoming an alter boy in the croatian catholic church and i loved my fathers father who was my great great grandfather and my fathers mother having two grand mothers and grandfathers i wanted to pleas them both i did not want to get in their bad books love one grandparents ignore your mothers parents and the way they want to bring you up

parts of me wanted to be free from religon and traditions and the other side of me wanted religon and tradition

in my country yugoslavia two groups dont get on with each other orthadox and catholic christians long time ago we did get on but the propaganda that was being ramed down our throats we had to decide and as a child growing up in a war torn country you did not want to show your father you were a coward

when i was a young christian i stuck to other mens revelations never testing what i was hearing i never even tested the doctrines i accepted until i met a pastor who was matur and realy showed me that he cared for me and wanted me to be the man i am meant to be honestly it was hard it was like a fight was going on inside me weather i am pleasing god or displeasing god thats what it was like for me

the reason i put revelation on the top is due to the way i was raised by my pastor who was an army chaplin he told me to get my own revelation and dont stick to mans revelations learn who god is what his nature is and let gods spirit in you guide you i did not see doctrines in the list one light set up i was also warned what damage doctrine can do in a new christians life

yes their is no right or wrong answer

one light was this like a survey done in your church ? my old pastor did this with us in the sunday morning services and our cell group leaders also did something similar to what you had left

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
