I love it, you take a statement out of context, portray it as if I do not understand prayer, let someone else answer for you and you act like you won some sort of prize.

Did you even actually read the original post, understand it at all??

Sheesh

I'm sure you understand prayer, brother, it just appeared to me from what you said that prayer had no business in a certain part of thought or a certain part of life- which I understand to be wrong. I'm sorry if I read that wrong.

hi,

I didn't equate a psychological principle and prayer. The psychological principle came next. It was 'when we are with friends/girlfriends we pay our full attention to them, hence we don't think of our problems'. Now please don't think I am equating God and our friends. The Lord is, of course, much greater and holy than any of the created beings. I am just emphasizing that when we leave our troubles at His feet and focus our full attention on Him, we will feel at peace. If merely created beings, friends can provide us with such a break from our troubles, how much better peace will God provide us.

As for problems being resolved, I agree, only prayers can make them okay, with friends the problems are still there. This proclaims our Lord's greatness further. Thanks for the idea.

And I've been sincerely trying to follow the Lord only for the past two or three years, whereas many of you here have been faithful for many years. So my maturity level is much lower than yours. To you worldly things may hold absolutely no charm, but I am just growing out of it. Certain things like loving friends, grand outings etc. are a bit important to me. Which will explain why I explained this theory in terms of going out with friends. I am just beginning to see the Lord's splendor in worldly things. I'll get to your place where I'll think its criminal to compare the Lord's glory with what we have on Earth, but after sometime. So I guess my post is not for people who have been in the walk for a long time. It'll only offend you that I am using worldly things to explain my relationship with he Lord.

If it's any consolation, I've been walking with the Lord all of a single year now. Spiritual maturity and growth is what you make of it. Cultivate that soul and it'll grow... but neglect to water it with the Word and you may run into some dry patches!

Live like Jesus died just yesterday.

Prayer has nothing to do with psychological principle.

Prayer has everything to do with everything in a Christian's life.

LOL....I'm sorry, but you just have to explain to me how anyone could possibly compare the power of prayer to principles developed by humans who believe they understand how the human mind works.

More specifically, how is the power of prayer the equivalent of psychological principle, as the person who made the original post proposed?

Now what I said was" psychological principle", you said " a Christian's life, please explain to me how these to are equivalent or somehow related, given that the psychological community at large pretty much ignores all things spiritual.

Sometimes if need to understand the power of the mind to give glory to God or be obedient to Him in mind, so that The mind is battle field and were called to understanding and not ingnorence. Not to sound harsh. I have alot of mental problems and meds never worked. But I beleive God want's us to understand the mind that way we might be able to understand its purpose in His will.

hi,

I thought I would share what I do when I am faced with temptation, sadness etc.

I pray and ask for a sign. If the sign comes as no, I simply shift my focus. I put this problem at the back of my mind and focus on something else. Surprisingly I don't feel sad anymore, and when I think about what I asked for after a few days, I either don't feel anything, or I am glad I didn't get my prayers answered. This is a basic psychological principle. When we are out with our friends/girlfriend, we feel happy to the core. Its not because we have no problems. It because we give our full attention to being with them. Why not use the same principle in all areas of our life?

I just thought I'll share my idea in case it helps someone.

Thank you for reading.

NKJ

1Co 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

Prayer is really important and knowing ourselves and God deeper is really important too.

I don't think that's entirely true, george... I think John had God and Jesus, and he still lost his head! Of course we'll have problems- probably more than your average person -but we have hope and assurance in the promises of God, and knowing that we're justified and heading to heaven after we do our work down here.

:emot-hug: I don't think you understood the original post. GH was running thoughts together. But I think she has a better understanding of leaning on the Lord than a lot of Christians, including me.

Her post is not about the power of prayer. (The only prayer she asked for was a sign.) Her post is about focus.

She has learned when the Lord says, "No," and comes to peace with the answer by accepting it (how many of us still fight with the Lord for what He says, "No," to?).

Then she makes a comparison of how we forget our troubles when with friends to our walk with the Lord. Why don't we forget our troubles when we are with Him in the same way? Here she has moved on to a different thought. Remember how Jesus said, "Do not worry..."? Well, GH is simply giving us a perspective to help us follow this command. :emot-hug: The "Friends" and the "psychological principle" are nothing more than guidances to help us make the connection with the application.

Getting up in arms about her comparison because you have a problem with psychology is "straining gnats". Let it go. GH was attempting to offer encouragement the best way she knows how.

:emot-hug: Gerda, don't be so hard on yourself. Some people just like to argue over the littlest things.

I've been a Christian practically my whole life, but I still have a problem focusing on negativity. And worldly things still hold charm to all of us. Friends, though, aren't worldly things. The Lord designed us to need each other. Even Jesus enjoyed the company of His disciples (i.e. taking three of them to some of His deepest prayer times).

Would you please share, though, how you recognize a "no" sign from the Lord? I could really use that help. Thanks!

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
