The problem I always had with quitting was that I needed that physical hold-the-cigarette-in-my-hand...inhale-exhale feeling. It's not just a nicotine addiction for me, it's a ritual. This helps because I have that "something" in my hand.

When a friend of mine quit she used swizzle sticks, those sticks that are used to stir drinks and coffee. She said everytime she wanted a cig she pulled one out of the package and chewed on it and just held it in her hand. I ate peanuts by the hand full when I quit and of course gained weight! It took me nearly a year to lose the weight before I quit and well hmm losing it this time around is much harder! lol

i used ice cream. orange and/or pineapple sherbet, actually. it wasn't constant like smoking had been for me, but here is how my new ritual went... it worked best if i was using two flavors. i'd get out the great big waffle cone... i'd get out my ice cream scoop, run it under hot water so it would scoop the sherbet easier. i'd start scooping "slivers" of each flavor and pack them into the cone til it was full... then when it was full, i started in all seriousness, making 2 more (full) scoops that were a blend of the two flavors and adding them to the top, of course having to run the scoop under hot water between scoops. i'd say it took about 5 minutes to completely have my masterpiece ready to enjoy. and then another 15 or 20 to lick down to the top of the cone... and then another five to eat the cone. i have sensitive teeth, so eating anything cold FAST is a no-no.

and i actually performed this ritual about 7 times a day. and now you know why i gained 30 lbs.

by the way, i'm now sherbet-free too, but i haven't lost the weight.

In my case all the glory goes to God. I prayed for God to help me because the strength of my own no matter how hard I tried to stop smoking my own will was not strong enough. Despite this habit I kept praising the Lord and I knew I talked with the Lord in truth about smoking.

I simply put my faith in God to help me in what I was unable to do.

Whenever I tried to stop smoking I would do away with my cigerettes cold turkey I would make it one week and cave. The next time made it two weeks then the third time God stepped into my situation and I have been smoke free for 23 yrs now standing in the strength of God.

Let me make it clear for others that I am totally aware that God can use different ways and methods in order to help or deliver his children.

As far as the e-cigarettes goes I see them as a good thing even though they have nicotine in them but a nicotine filter can be bought to use. When looking at the many that has died from lung cancer alone is staggering even though they have smoked there entire life and no harm came to them even so it still remained a health risk.

I'm sure that along with me you have had loved ones whom suffered and died from lung cancer. In my case it was my cousin who just dwindled away down to nothing never giving up his cigerettes till the day he died.

So, I lean toward the use of e-cigarettes as being a good thing as it can possibly save the lives of those who are heading right now even toward getting this life-threatening disease called lung cancer and do not even know it yet.

There are so many other things this could apply too but everyone of them has to be taken on a indivdual basis and not compared to other things.

I started smoking e-cigarettes yesterday. They're called Blu Cigs. It looks like a regular cigarette. It has a battery pack, an atomizer and a nicotine cartridge. You inhale nicotine and exhale water vapor (which looks like smoke but isn't smoke). Yesterday was bearable but I still had cravings for a regular cigarette. But I'm on day 2 and I'm doing ok. They aren't the same as my Pall Malls but they kill the nic fits. Hopefully I'll be smoke free AND nicotine free soon!! I think this is my 7th time trying to quit.

I will follow your progress to stop smoking as i have a sister who has tried to quit many times, thank you for your info.

Hang in there  I have my 2 year quit anniversary coming up in july and I am so happy to say I dont smoke anymore. I tried so many times before and failed, but this last try I just put everything in Gods arms and gave it my best and finally gave up a nasty habit and I feel so much better and the amount of money saved is unreal lol, at the time I was quitting my husband quit about a month after I did, then my sister gave up the habit and shortly after that my mom also gave up smoking. What a nice domino effect !

Not being rude, but will give some advice that never fails. If you want motivated enough to quit; go spend some time with someone dying of emphysema. I am not talking about someone in early stages. I mean someone on their last few months of life. It will motivate you enough to quit with or without nicotine replacement.

This is an old post. I've failed at quitting...again. :24:

I've been smoking for almost 40 years. I've been quitting for the last 20.

Did those e-smokes help at all? What are they like compared to a real cigarette?

A big part of my problem with dropping this habit is that cigarettes have been a part my life since my early teens. They've always been there. I need to find something to take it's place and candy and gum just don't just aren't cutting it. I know I can quit if I really want too.....it's just finding that will to quit that I find difficult.

I know the struggle. :24: Don't be hard on yourself. The devil is throwing enough at us as it is, we don't need to add to the pile. Someday when you're ready, you'll get rid of those things.....as will I.

Nope.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
