but nobody wants to hear the truth of robertson's compassion. they just want to point fingers... ahhhh, there's that word that so many are using to describe what robertson did!!!! you're all accusing HIM of pointing fingers. truth is, most of the people in this thread are the ones doing the finger pointing and blaming, while pat robertson was already very active in trying to help the people... and all some want to do is criticize and belittle him for asking for prayer that goes to the heart of their problems rather than just sticks a bandaid on the surface.

his comment about "pact with the devil" is bad timing. no one is removing credit for his assistance.

i disagree. his comment about the pact with the devil was a historical reference. according to ovedya's source, it was an inaccurate historical reference, but that really is beside the point, because the RELEVENCE of his comment was that since the days of napolean, when haiti became steeped in witchcraft and voodoo, they have suffered poverty on top of tragedy on top of poverty, and THAT (their rebellion against God) is the root of their problems, and our prayers should be that they come out from under that.

and yes, lots of people are "removing" credit for his assistance simply by disregarding it and spending so much time focusing on and harping on what you call a comment in bad timing.

bottom line is, WHO CARES if the comment was at a bad time? (which i don't think it was) it is SINFUL and PROUD and GOSSIPY and MALICIOUS to spend so much time running our mouths about how dispicable he is, and so little time stepping into the gap with him to intercede in prayer on their behalf, and spreading the truth of how much aid and assistance his ministry is being to those people. we can't do both, ya know. we can't spend a lot of time helping him building up a nation by answering his call to prayer and donating to his efforts to aid the people of haiti, while giving equal time to tearing down that same child of God through gossip. if we're truly spending enough time doing what God requires of us, then there won't be any time left over to be complaining about a fellow christian... or even debating about whether he was in the wrong. note to self: get out of this thread and spend more time with God.

if pat robertson's comment was in error and an offense to man, well, it was only for a moment. but so much of what is going on in this thread is in error, and is not only an offense to man, but more importantly, is an offense to God... and it's not just for a moment, it's been non-stop for days now. why doesn't everyone stop pointing out someone else's sin and take a look at our own? after all, our own is the only sin we have the power to change, is it not?

i'm really saddened by the hypocrisy and lack of christian charity i see in this thread. instead of trying to tear down a fellow christian because of disagreement with his words, maybe more time should be spent trying to glorify God and edify the body with our own.

ya know, God just tapped me on the shoulder. the truth is falling on deaf ears here. so i'm gonna shut up now, and pray that God will soften some hearts here so that love can replace whatever needs replacing.

Grace to you,

Danny Glover, the actor, said today, and I paraphrase, "The earthquake in Haiti was caused by mother earth because we missed our chance to heal Global warming in Copenhagen."

Does anyone have any condemnation for Danny Glover? :emot-fail::thumbsup::group-hug:

Peace,

Dave

Blessings,

So let me see if I am understanding this correctly....

The earth got all shook up over the Copenhagen fiasco and decided to quake? Underneath Haiti? :emot-fail:

It seems that there are such a wealth and depth of stupid comments flying around from all the talking heads that it would be hard to miss them all.... Ignorance comes in all shapes, sizes, colors, denominations and political affiliations.... Placing credence in some of the things these people say is just silly....

Sadly, the smoke screen of ignorant comments being made by anyone who is remotely famous just detracts from what we should all be doing - Praying for God to give His Grace and Mercy to these millions of people suffering in Haiti now and thinking of ways that we, here in the US, can help the effort..... There will never be a shortage of people who feel they have to say something no matter how idiotic it is...

I think though that his comment touched on a broader issue, one we as Christians do not agree on and that is why we argue about it.

To me there are three issues. Does God use natural disasters to punish entire nations for the actions of unbelievers in those nations? Does God use natural disasters to punish rampant sin. Finally can we predict and explain when and how God does that?

I think given his past comments that Pat Robertson believes that God does punish entire nations for sin and for unbelief using natural disasters and further that he has been given insight into when God is doing that and when God is not doing that.

If we are consistent than I have no problems. We know from scripture that God has in the past used natural disasters to punish some nations and people's. The problems come when we are not consistent with our explanations of when God is using a natural disaster and when it is just a natural disaster. If we are not consistent then we are just projecting our own biases and prejudices and worse yet we are attributing those to God.

To me that is scary ground to be on.

If all natural disasters, floods, tornado's, hurricians and earthquakes are God's punishment on particularly sinful people then so be it. But when we start picking and choosing saying well no that tornado could not have been God's punishment because we KNOW that those people are good people over there, but that tornado that hit that other town, well indeed those people deserve what God gave them, well then we are saying we know the mind of God and guess what He agrees with me.

How do we know what is in the heart of an entire country or city or people? Maybe Oklahoma gets so many tornado's becuase the people of Oklahoma are very sinful? Yet I never hear anyone say that, why not?

So true....if ignorance was brass we'd be hearing the band play 24/7. While we all pontificate....the poor people of Haiti continue to die. I'm done with this.

As I see it, when one is a public persona and has an open microphone, airtime and a ready audience in order to be a responsible voice and example for those who trust your words - you should choose them most carefully. The problem with so many 'public' people today is that they espouse as truth what they think personally - that can be both misleading and untrustworthy. If you choose as your walk in life, to become a public figure and to enlighten those with whom you hold sway - it is critical that your facts are actual and unvarnished by hyperbole or things which are simply inaccurate - if you are to have the credibility to make a change in the world of politics, religion, etc. - it is critical that what you lay forth as the truth - is just that. It would do some of the people in the public eye a world of good to pull back and reflect the situation as it is and not simply their opinion as how it is.... I think in this day and age - we need far less personal candor and more substantive, proven fact. If you choose as a profession to be in the public eye as a commentator, evangelist, etc. I think you need to be very careful with your words. There will always be the chance that sensationalistic media will dig until they find some word or statement or action that showed you wrong, or in a bad light - those are all things you much think of before opening your life and your thoughts to the world. When those issues are uncovered, you must be professional and truthful enough to tell the truth and move on.

The Haitian people need help, not judgment. Pat Robertson was way off. I don't think that governmental corruption in Haiti is any worse than corruption that exists in the US government or that of any other country.

They need prayer and they need real long-term help to rebuild and to be rebuilt up to modern earthquake code standards so that this degree of devestation is not repeated.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
