If it's in thought and not in action, it's between you and God.

It would probably cause trouble if you told him. Right now your sin was in thought, not action. Repent of it and ask God to forgive you, then take every thought captive and don't do this again.

Matthew 5:21-29 (NLT)

Teaching about Anger

21 “You have heard that our ancestors were told, ‘You must not murder. If you commit murder, you are subject to judgment.’ 22 But I say, if you are even angry with someone, you are subject to judgment! If you call someone an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the court. And if you curse someone, you are in danger of the fires of hell.

23 “So if you are presenting a sacrifice at the altar in the Temple and you suddenly remember that someone has something against you, 24 leave your sacrifice there at the altar. Go and be reconciled to that person. Then come and offer your sacrifice to God.

25 “When you are on the way to court with your adversary, settle your differences quickly. Otherwise, your accuser may hand you over to the judge, who will hand you over to an officer, and you will be thrown into prison. 26 And if that happens, you surely won’t be free again until you have paid the last penny.

Teaching about Adultery

27 “You have heard the commandment that says, ‘You must not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 So if your eye—even your good eye—causes you to lust, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 30 And if your hand—even your stronger hand—causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.

In one situation, the man was angry with his brother and took him to court. So to this man He said, go settle your differences [with that man] quickly. For the other person, the man who lusted after the woman, she probably had no knowledge of this. So I believe here He is saying go repent of your sins to God.

This is my understanding, hope it helps.

If i have sinned against a friend,in thought,should i tell them?

Or is best to repent and keep it between me and God?

Why do you think you need to tell them?

If you feel that it is proper for the sin to be shared with your friend, I think you should follow that feeling. If it may damage your relationship, I'd think twice about it and pray, pray, pray. Your sins are between you and God. As far as I know (correct me if I'm wrong) you are not obligated to confess your sins to anyone but God. But that doesn't mean that you can't. Make sense?

In the future, look to:

2Co 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

I have always enjoyed Psalms 51 that you have in part in your sig.

We can apply much of Psalms 51 Words in our own repentance towards God and His cleansing and forgiveness of our sins.

What is your motive for telling them, and asking for forgiveness? If it is because you think it is right to repent under the eyes of Jesus, and you are repenting for that reason, then ask Jesus for forgiveness of your thoughts.

But do you have another reason for telling your friend? Search your heart, for only you know the answer to that
