Receiving the Holy Spirit

I've heard that those who practice, kundalini yoga experience the same emotional things.. sensations of fire, tears and such... Now, if they experience the same emotional outbursts then... what is this happening in some churchs today? Is it really the Holy Spirit?

I feel dirty and violated now.

A counterfeit, evil experience has nothing to do with the genuine Spirit/gifts. Using his logic, all Christians are like cultist Jim Jones or David Koresh because they had experiences with a false Christ? Focus on the Word of God and prayer, not the subjective experience or naysayers who are anti-charismatic. It is good to be discerning, but one does not have to be introspective, fearful, doubting, confused.

As well, there is a distinction between the corporate, public use of tongues that must be interpreted and not practiced by all, and the private, devotional use of tongues that is intended for all, not just Pentecostals/charismatics (the poster who proof texted the corporate gifts to negate the Acts experience/initial, physical evidence/personal use I Cor. 14:4 is misunderstanding I Cor. 12-14).

The other factor is our flesh and emotions. Don't assume your experience must be demonic if it is not fully of the Spirit. It can be your own human weakness creating fear, doubt, confusion.

I feel like a failure. I cannot tell the difference between God and Satan. How am I to judge the angels? These people do miracles and wonders in Jesus name and I cannot even believe it. God must be shaking His head. Like I said in a post awhile back, I believe in spiritual gifts but I'm a skeptical. Satan can dress himself as the angel of light to deceive even the elect. Last night they prayed over me in tongues and I had no idea what they were saying. They could have been putting a curse on me for all I know. Lord help me.

Or'el, you know God too well to be talking like that. He understands what you are feeling. On the other hand, if you want to be baptized in the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues, you got to put all thoughts of satan behind you. You have to keep your mind on Jesus and His word. You have to believe that God would NEVER offer a blessing to you thats cursed.

Being filled with the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues is going to cost you to step into a realm of faith that many will never venture into. Because like other things that we ask God for sometimes come easier to believe. Many say it not for todays church...you don't need to speak...or they just don't desire to allow Him to speak. And thats ok, the IMPORTANT thing is, has GOD PLACED A DESIRE IN YOU TO ALLOW THE COMFORTER TO SPEAK THROUGH YOU!! Thats all that matters. If you have this burning desire, God will put people in your mist to pray for you...or...at home in prayer God will do it. , and any where else as long as the desire is in you.

Now for praying in tongues, I do it and it came about from hearing it was so. One thing about me is I know God for myself. And I went into prayer about it and He shared this to me. If you travel to France, what language are you going to speak? English right, that the langage that I carry everywhere I go because I know no other. He ask me then why would you be filled with the Holy Ghost who never speaks? At that point I said Lord I believe and He speaks.

Now for the filling from the toes, I not debating because thats what he believes and I can't take that from him. But as I was being baptism in the Holy Ghost, I felt the filling coming from my feet up, I didn't ask why, because what I had been praying and believing, God could have chosen it to start in my nose, I didn't care, I knew God was doing what I had asked.

I have prayed about that thought (filling from the toes) and the answer was given for ME (no on has to believe).. God ask when you stepped in the water at church to be baptism..feet goes in first...when you FILL your glass with water, you have to start from the bottom..thats good enough for me

Acts 2:2- And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as a rushing mighty wind, and it FILLED the whole house where they were sitting.

Act 2:3- and yes it does say: Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them.

Acts 2:4- And they were all FILLED with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

I'm not trying to change or make any one believe that things has to be done my way. All I'm asking is for you to know God for yourself and in whatever area

you ask Him to lead you, be willing to take His hand and do just that. We have a God Who answers us concerning spiritual things. When He knocks at the door, we must fully be willing to open it and invite Him in.

Excellent Joyful2! The only thing I can think of to add is the scripture that if one asks God for bread, he will not give him a stone. So if you are praying to God, believe that He will answer. The devil tries to HINDER prayer from being answered, but God is stronger than he.

I had some people pray over me tonight to receive the Holy Spirit and the gift of tongues.

theyre demon influenced. stay away from them and pray for them.

The devil will not praise God. So I can't say the folks are demon influenced. Carnal, maybe. Not using wisdom, maybe. A person has to be willing to receive the gift of God before it is given. I have seen many people with the gift of the baptism of the Holy Ghost, who speaks in tongues, simply lay their hand on the seeker's head and pray for them to receive the gift. The annointing is in the hand of the prayer, and many times the seeker's faith is built up enough in God to receive. It is a wonderful thing.

Simply talk with the Savior in your own God-given language of Planet Earth and He will hear and answer your call. God understands all languages, for after all, He Himself created everyone one of them! Yes, and He understands whatever the language is He gave me.

I for one am grateful for it, because I don't often have the words I need to pray. So I let the Holy Spirit pray through me via a language that by-passes my feeble mind.

I had some people pray over me tonight to receive the Holy Spirit and the gift of tongues. I don't know why but now I feel like maybe I did something wrong by allowing them to do this. What if I don't receive the gift? Does that mean I don't have enough faith?Then something strange happened before that. While they were praying and speaking in tongues over other people I felt this strong sensation come over me. It was like a wave that went through me. I felt dizzy/lightheaded and began having muscle twitches. Then my heart started racing really fast. I have NEVER in my life experienced anything like this. First I thought it was neat but then it scared me! Was this God or the devil? I'm so confused!

and the writer of Hebrews-

Heb 11:1-3

11 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. 3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.NKJV

It seems they(chrasmatics) prompt us to establish a greater faith by sight and signs. Christ indicated the reverse sight and signs established His Word now faith as the writer of Hebrews defines.

Tongues

Why did Paul say this-

1 Cor 14:18-1918 I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all; 19 yet in the church I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I may teach others also, than ten thousand words in a tongue.NKJV

With the tongues that are being used in church worship to God today are gibberish? What happened to the Spirit in Paul and now?

Examine the spirits

1 John 4:14 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.NKJV

When there is doubt pray and immerse yourself in His Word to find answers to those doubts. Be immovable till His light shines upon His paths for your feet to walk upon! If you seek Him and the answers with all your heart this promise will be fulfilled-

Matt 7:7-8

7 "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.NKJV

Notice it does not give a response time for God! When we will recieve, but that we will recieve thus waiting upon God is the key. If it were only one truth directly from God it would be worth all our lifetimes to receive it! Yet we have the whole council of God before us with His Spirit to guide us into all that we seek!

Isa 40:31

31 But those who wait on the Lord

Shall renew their strength;

They shall mount up with wings like eagles,

They shall run and not be weary,

They shall walk and not faint.

NKJV

The reasoning here is

1. want

2. then ask and seek

3. then wait

at this point we will have all the strength we need to recieve in His good time!

I have since read the book of Acts and, if these tongues are real, I don't believe they are from God. Tongues were an understood language used to spread the gospel to the Jews. These people get caught up in a few chapters in Acts and disregard the rest. We can't do that.
