Definition of Sin

I believe Sin is Lawlessness, but lawlessness against Gods Law, it's the desires of our flesh.

Sin is desire conceived,

James 1:14-15

14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.

Where Self Seeking and Envy, confusion and every evil thing are there also.

James 3:13-16

13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom. 14 But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. 15 This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. 16 For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. 17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. 18 Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

Deliverance from the Law

Romans 7:5-6

5 For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death. 6 But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.

Anyone who knows the right he should do and doesn't do it "SINS" this is the definition of what sin is

Maybe I'm being too pedantic .

But sin is defined in 1 John 3

1Jn 3:4 Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness, for sin is lawlessness.

I am wondering how the sins of omission

Jas 4:17 Therefore to him who knows to do good, and does not do it, to him it is sin.

are taken into account in this definition? Does the law somewhere command us to go good, or is this merely a response to the first commandment?
