As was pointed out, the ones bringing her to Jesus were breaking the Torah - for one cannot be caught in the act alone, and both were to be brought to . . . the priest!

Second law broken - they took her to Jesus (a rabbi) not to a priest.

(If the man doesn't understand the difference between a rabbi and a priest, yo might have to point out that the Lord appointed the descendants of Aaron (brother of Moses, of the tribe of Levi) to be priests. They were the true religious leaders in the days before the last Temple was destroyed. Rabbis were more or less the equivalent of Bible teachers back then.

At some point in time you may want to point out to your friend that the pharisee's only brought one of the guilty parties to be judged.

Adultery always involves 2 people....where was the other person???

I'm remembering from the news that a young woman was stoned to death in a muslim country after reporting being raped...nothing happened to the men.

Very good point.

Of course this man always has something to debate with me about. And I welcome him to ask questions but he can be a bit insulting at times. I know he doesn't think too highly of Israel and the Jews and this is a sensitive area for us so I try to avoid talking about that. Funny thing is yesterday while we were sitting at a table, my Jewish friend sat down next to us. So there's a muslim, a christian and a jew all at the same table. I thought that was really neat! The thing that made me mad was that my muslim friend told my jewish friend that THEY had more in common with their religion than jews and christians. I didn't even know how to RESPOND to that. He goes on to bash christianity again right in front of me. I never say anything bad about muslims. I definitely ponit out that they are wrong, but I don't insult them like that. Once again, I had to explain to him that not all christians are "corrupt" and not to single us out because that would be like me saying all muslims are terrorists. He can't seem to understand this.

I know he came to fulfill the law not abolish it but it seems like here he put an end to stoning. Was he simply trying to tell us not to judge or was he telling us to do away with punishments?

Actually there was a ton more going on here. The law stipulated that both parties (man and woman) who were caught in adultery were to be taken outside the city and stoned. The text also tells us that she was caught in the act of adultery. If she was caught in the act, where was the man?

The problem with the Muslims is their mindset is legailistic and they don't understand the concept of Forgivness.

Also they don't recognise Jesus as God.

Jesus being equal to God could forgive and show mercy to anyone He chose. A concept beyond the Muslim mindset.

Where is forgiveness/mercy shown in the Islamic Faith?? There is none, all laws must be enforced because they don't have a Saviour who paid for their sins with His own blood. No, Muslims must earn their way to Paradise and pay for their own sins.

So that is why a Muslim can't understand why Jesus let this woman go and didn't fullfil the law.

21 For He has made Him who knew no sin, to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Jesus didn't break the law... if He had condemned the woman to stoning, THEN He would have broken the law, because it was not His legal right to pronounce such a judgment. His accusers knew this. it was just one more way they were trying to trap Him.

It can be a dangerous proposition to debate muslims on the faith if one has little knowledge of scripture and it's meaning. Just a thought.

I know. I try to avoid discussions of faith with him but he always brings it up. The last debate was if Jesus was God. I printed off an entire page of proof that Jesus is God but he still doesn't believe me. I know I don't know a lot bu I try to answer as many questions as I can.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
