In the US, it is different in each state and can be different in counties depending on the school boards and how much they want to stand up for our laws.

Here in Oklahoma, it is not against the law for kids to pray in school as long as they are not disrupting teaching or in some way forcing others to pray with them. Actually is is against the law for any teacher or administrator to stop a kid from praying publically unless they are disrupting classes. My wife teaches a kindergarten class and her students pray for each other off and on all the time. She can't lead them in prayer, but once the kids understand it's ok, they really don't need any help.

On Easter, Christmas, St. Patricks day and such, she has to have an in depth history lesson as to what those are all about. Easter Eggs get about 30 seconds in the lesson if I know her.

We still have relative decent schools here, but they are getting a bit worse each year, just depends on the area and whether or not parents consider education important.

Our christian schools are usually pretty good, but the kids that excell the most that I know are home schooled.... but then again, in those cases the parents are really involved.

I don't know the laws there, but I've always wondered if someone started a one room school for first through 8th grades like we had here in the 1920's and 30's might do interesting things.

I can relate.. it's been hard for me to find a good church to attend for (not the same but) similar reasons.. I guess we pump up our expectations of each other when we are around believers.

eeek! Lets not get started with trying to find a church in Toronto. Havent been able to find one in the 10yrs that I've been living there.

Wow thanks for the details. I think I'm starting to get it now.

Okay lets take a little survey. If you guys were going to teach... Which state and which school system would you apply to?

I'd stay completely out of Maryland. :whistling:

Well, if you want warmer climates - go for Florida, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, etc.

New England is wealthier but also very Liberal politically.

New York state is funny - around NY City and Albany the climate is Liberal, but the rest of the state is Conservative. Go figure.

Colorado is a Liberal state from what I hear.

If that info makes a difference to you?
