This man isn't homeless. He is just a friend from the coffee house who doesn't have a lot of money. He has an apartment, is well fed and taken care of. He just doesn't get enough money for coffee apparently. I'm not worried about how he spends the money because I know he buys coffee with it (I'm there when he buys it). He is a good friend and honest and I know he's not into drugs or anything like that.

I misread this post then. I thought he was a stranger - you say he's a good friend. I don't have too many good friends who ask me for money who always ask me for money and then act like it's not enough. In this case - I don't know what to tell you to do. If he is not homeless, is well fed and taken care of and is a good friend - I'd probably not be too inclined to keep giving him money; when he apparently doesn't really need it.

That's okay Believer, I must have misread it too. The way I read it gave me the impression that this man was a stranger. So, I'm with you. I don't think I would keep giving him money either.

:thumbsup::blink::13:

At a coffee shop I go to there is always a man there asking for money for coffee/the bus/laundry/etc. I started giving him a few bucks here and there. But now when he asks for money and I give him some, he asks for more. I give him $1, he says "Are you sure you don't have a few more dollars?" I like giving to people in need but I am getting the feeling that I might be taken advantage of. I don't know how to handle this situation. Advice?

I need some work done! It's unskilled labor minimum wage are you interested? See what his answer is. If he's interested in what kind of work tell him hard work. See what his answer is. If he has excuse or not interested

2 Thess 3:10

10 For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat.

He isn't a GOOD friend but a friend nonetheless. We talk only at the coffee house. Definitely not a close relationship. I would suggest that he find a job but he's schizophrenic and disabled. I'm not sure who would employ him. I would love to keep giving him coffee but I don't want him to always expect a handout from me. You know? Thanks for all the replies. Helps a lot!

 Wow, I guess I saw things on your post. I thought I saw he was homeless....sorry. But never the less, I feel that you should not continue to give if you "feel" he's taking advantage of your giving heart. Many times that "feel" is the Holy Ghost trying to bring things to our attention. Pray and seek God to show you what He's trying to reveal concerning these thoughts of you being taken advantage of.

We give donations sometimes it could be a person or an organisation. We do it because we want to to. If for example our donation is given to a church we do not have second thought to give more. When we give a donation to a person we do hesitate and/or have doubts. What really counts is how we feel towards God and Jesus after our donation. No matter how much money you give the much more you will be given back.

Blessings

2 Corinthians 9:7

So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.

Does this verse even apply in instances where the person is obviously taking advantage of your generosity?

I think if you feel your friend is taking advantage of you; then you would not be giving with a cheerful heart. If you feel that he is taking advantage of you - simply tell him that you are not able to give him money anymore and/or find another coffee shop where you are less likely to run into this person.

I'm going to have to echo Lady C and Believer's comments....if this guy is a 'good friend' he has a strange way of showing it. I have no friends who hit me up for money and, if they did and they weren't in dire straits, I'd kick them to the curb. That type of person is a user. I also thought you meant a homeless person, btw.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
