Shavout - aka The Feast of Weeks aka Pentecost - began at sundown last night.

Shavuot takes place in the third month of the year. Remember that Passover is in the first Biblical month and then we count seven weeks which takes us to the third month. Remember also that Passover is a memorial of the exodus from Egypt, our redemption. It was in the third month after the exodus from Egypt that the people came to the wilderness and camped at Mt Sinai. We read in Exodus 19 & 20 the amazing account of the people of Israel and the G-d Who had just redeemed them from bondage. We were not redeemed on our own merit, but on the merit of our Redeemer. It was for His own name that He was faithful to us. But after our redemption, He came down to us at Mt Sinai. Can you imagine?!? He came down, to us! The Creator of the Universe wants to enter into a relationship with Israel. It is as if He is on bended knee asking for her hand in marriage. Shavuot is the memorial of this incredible event on this great day.

is there anything in particular that we're suppose to do on this day? Or is it just a remembrance. Thanks for the reminder!

I was always taught that Pentecost was the birthday of the church.

It wasn't until a few years ago that I learned "Pentecost" was actually one of the Feasts of the Lord given in the Torah, that Israel/Jews had been celebrating for centuries.

Once you understand the actual feast and what was being celebrated, then you can fully appreciate what the Lord was doing in Acts 2.

I recommend you read the rest of what is written in the link.

I'm not sure there is anything for us to "do." But I believe you will be benefited and blessed by the reading. :noidea:

Typically those celebrating will stay up all night discussing Torah. Shavuot is the day God came down and gave the Torah to the Israelites, when they heard His voice telling them the 10 commandments, and if they followed them they would be blessed. And dairy is eaten during this time also. When Gods voice went through the crowd it was like wind, theres a midrash that says they saw fire and smoke. When we read of those in Jerusalem waiting as Yeshua told them to, they were there for Shavuot, they were in the temple as is the custom and when the Holy Spirit came upon them it was like it was when Gods voice or we can even say His Spirit went out over the Israelites.

Spirit Of The Living God Fall Afresh On Me

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee. Psalms 51:10-13

Amen!

Thanks Nebula, this ia a great post!

Also known as the Feastival of Firstfruits (I Corinthians 15:20-23; James 1:18)

Romans 8:22-23

22) For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.

23) And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption to wit, the redemption of our body.

The Jewish people celebrate the giving of the 10 commandments on this/these days, ever since they say they have receive the commandments.

We as Christians on the Day of Pentecost have been given the Holy Spirit (Acts 2) but as is said in the above passage of Romans 8, we are waiting for redemption (receiving) of our body--our heavenly body (I Corinthians 15;50-58).

Philippians 3:20-21

20) For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:

21) Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto His glorious body, according to the working whereby He is able even to subdue all things unto Himself.

The Feast of Weeks (Shavout) is also known as the Harvest Festival (Matthew 13:30; Revelations 14:15)

IMO this is a time for Christians to celebrate the giving of the Holy Spirit, and later when Christ Returns, we shall receive our new heavenly bodies.

I haven't read the Book of Ruth yet, from what I understand the Jewish people read this book on this/these days. So I'm a bit behind.

Actually, the Festival of Firstfruits is the first "first day of the week" or first day after the Sabbath (Sunday) after Passover.

This is the day Jesus rose from the dead. :whistling:

I haven't read the Book of Ruth yet, from what I understand the Jewish people read this book on this/these days. So I'm a bit behind.

The Feast of Weeks is marked by the barley harvest. Ruth and Naomi returned to Israel during the Barley harvest. Their story has a mirror to the celebration.

Good input!

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
