Obama to Send Troops to U.S.-Mexico Border

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama will send 1,200 National Guard troops to help secure the U.S.-Mexico border, an administration official and an Arizona congresswoman said Tuesday, pre-empting Republican plans to try to force votes on such a deployment.

Obama will also request $500 million for border protection and law enforcement activities, they said.

The National Guard troops will work on intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance support, analysis and training, and support efforts blocking drug trafficking. The troops will temporarily supplement border patrol agents until Customs and Border Patrol can recruit and train additional officers and agents to serve on the border, the administration official said.

If 20,000+ border patrol agents are not enough...how is 1500 even considered a drop in the bucket? We need 10,000 additional troops on the border...

BTW...only 17,000 only agents are on the US/Mexico border. They can only effectively control approximately 800 miles of the 2000 mile border. Another 1500 is nothing but a slap in the face.

Well, if you sent a hundred million troops down there just to watch the illegals come across the border...yeah, you're right. However, if you send enough, and you actually STOP the illegal border crossers...thats all we want.

The US/Mexico border is the most active border in the world! Both legally and illegally. Stands to reason it should have the most security too.

The South Korean border (160 miles) is protected with 28,000 American soldiers...Arizona gets 1500 and we get accused of being insatiable.

Actually, it's apparent that Obama can read polls but much like the Oil Spill in the Gulf, he's pretty much effete when it comes to taking action.

When was the last time someone crossed the border ILLEGALLY, and killed people in your home town? Do you live in fear because people can come in bring drugs into your town unchecked and if they come under investigation they just leave, no chance of them facing Justice? Have you had whole cities go bankrupt due to the outflow of funds from illegals who do not pay taxes?

oh and because I don't want Unfair taxes, I don't want law breakers invading my country, and I don't want the government to decide what I can and cannot do, as I do live int the United States Of America, the land of the FREE, that makes me a um "Tea Party Dixie Lander" then so I am.
