It is heartbreaking and yet if we don't strive to understand their thinking it is so hard to reach them with the truth. Tolerance is good for a lot of things but not if it keeps us from being bold and truthful. There really is a double standard when it comes to islam. They demand others to tolerate them but it is not reciprocated. They use tolerance as a weapon to shut out any opposition.

Care to explain why opposing this particular location for the mosque is dehumanizing to Muslims? And while you are at it, please address the issue of why Palestinians are being educated to believe that Jews are descended from apes and pigs and why people like you are silent when others are on the receiving end of such dehumanizing activities.

Of course those statements are horrible, crazy, and stupid. Why would I think those are good? I have never said that stuff like that is ok. Do you think that the average Muslim believes that? No. As for why it exists, It probably has something to do with the consistent violations of human rights on both sides, and then people making up stupid reactionary propaganda because they are scared. It's a whole bunch of crazy and stupid.

Shiloh, would you need to explain on behalf of Christianity for racist "Christian Identity' groups, or the KKK, which requires that it's members "act as white Christians", or that type of thing? No, because there are always going to be non-thinking violent extremists that exist, pretending that somehow one Religion promotes such Behaviour and others Condemn it is disingenuous at best.

Crazy and.or stupid people exist because they are crazy and/or stupid, not because they read a book or believe one religion over another. They simply use is simply an excuse to behave in a crazy and/or stupid manner.

Likewise, there are stupid and crazy things that happen in other places, like Israel. An Arab Man was convicted of rape for having lied about being a Jewish Bachelor seeking a relationship when he had consensual intercourse with a Jewish Woman. I don't have to soapbox about how you don't condemn things like this red herring of a story to you Shiloh, because it is simply wrong to any reasonable human being, because it is crazy and stupid. I do not pick and choose in justifying one set of crazy and stupid actions while condemning others. It is crazy and stupid that there is Propaganda in Palestine depicting Jews in a hateful manner. It is crazy and stupid that a man was convicted of rape because he lied about being Arab.

The fact that building a mosque near ground zero is controversial is crazy and stupid because the people that are building the mosque had nothing to do with 9/11. Some people think it's ok, because it is offensive to people that dealt with 9/11. It is only offensive if people associate that Mosque with people who committed 9/11. That, of course, is false. They had nothing to to do with 9/11. They are building something on private property fully within their rights. Some people would much rather try bully them into moving because they don't want the mosque there. Could it be a couple more blocks away? Yeah, it could be like the Mosque 4 blocks away instead of being 2 blocks away. But why are they allowed to put the mosque there? Three simple words.

The First Amendment. The right to freely practice their Religion overrides anyone hurt feelings. By being able to build a mosque there, everyone's rights are protected, not just for those who want to build the mosque. The First Amendment is part of limited government, not just limiting government to what you want it to allow. If people really care about the first amendment, they would be saying "I wish it was somewhere else, but they are allowed under the First Amendment" instead of "They are allowed under the First Amendment, but they should put it somewhere else."

It's up to US, the citizens of the U.S., to decide what is more important. You really are overstepping by saying what you said. You have no emotional investment in this and I find your statement offensive. As for the First Amendment, it reads as follows....

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

See anything there about a CITY or a group of citizens protesting this mosque or challenging the building of it in court????? These people are free to worship as they see fit. As for being a lawyer; don't quit your day job.
