Firstly let me say that in no way am i using this to judge anyone who keeps a particular sabbath day or does not keep a day. I came accross this and wanted to put it out there for each to decide for themselves what is right. But let none deny that early church history reveals that sunday fellowship was observed by atleast these long before Constantine and the supposed change to a pagan day by him as some insist, i.e "Seventh day adventist" etc.

CHAPTER LXVII -- WEEKLY WORSHIP OF THE CHRIS- TIANS.

And we afterwards continually remind each other of these things. And the wealthy among us help the needy; and we always keep together; and for all things wherewith we are supplied, we bless the Maker of all through His Son Jesus Christ, and through the Holy Ghost. And on the day called Sunday, all who live in cities or in the country gather together to one place, and the memoirs of the apostles or the writings of the prophets are read, as long as time permits; then, when the reader has ceased, the president verbally instructs, and exhorts to the imitation of these good things. Then we all rise together and pray, and, as we before said, when our prayer is ended, bread and wine and water are brought, and the president in like manner offers prayers and thanksgivings, according to his ability, and the people assent, saying Amen; and there is a distribution to each, and a participation of that over which thanks have been given, and to those who are absent a portion is sent by the deacons. And they who are well to do, and willing, give what each thinks fit; and what is collected is deposited with the president, who succours the orphans and widows and those who, through sickness or any other cause, are in want, and those who are in bonds and the strangers sojourning among us, and in a word takes care of all who are in need. But Sunday is the day on which we all hold our common assembly, because it is the first day on which God, having wrought a change in the darkness and matter, made the world; and Jesus Christ our Saviour on the same day rose from the dead. For He was crucified on the day before that of Saturn (Saturday); and on the day after that of Saturn, which is the day of the Sun, having appeared to His apostles and disciples, He taught them these things, which we have submitted to you also for your consideration.

http://www.earlychristianwritings.com/text/justinmartyr-firstapology.html

This too i found in the writings of Didache from the link above.

Chapter 14. Christian Assembly on the Lord's Day. But every Lord's day gather yourselves together, and break bread, and give thanksgiving after having confessed your transgressions, that your sacrifice may be pure. But let no one who is at odds with his fellow come together with you, until they be reconciled, that your sacrifice may not be profaned. For this is that which was spoken by the Lord: "In every place and time offer to me a pure sacrifice; for I am a great King, says the Lord, and my name is wonderful among the nations."

LORD'S Day?

And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath. Luke 6:5

Hi Joe, im not sure what your saying there? We are in agreement that Jesus is Lord of the sabbath.

The Lords day IS by the scriptures the first day of the week, also known as sunday. Jn 20:19, Acts 20:7, 1 Cor 16:2 + Rev 1:10

The Lord of the sabbath has the right to make changes if the needs of its subjects change, and indeed He said "sabbath was made for man" (given for our needs).

Though it may seem conjecture, it is reasonable to see that the disciples needed a day distinct from Jewish law, and also this freed them up to labour for the souls of the Jews in the synagogues on the seventh day and still have intimate fellowship etc on the first day. Had the Lord made issue of keeping the first day, many souls would be lost and unprofitable persecution of the disciples would have ensued due to uproar over breaking from Moses` teaching.

The intention of this topic is to show that the disciples and early church did meet on the "first" day for fellowship, teaching, tithing and communion. Wether they also met on the seventh day is another topic.

God bless you.

You can read all the extra readings you want the bible says the Sabbath is the seventh day we are to rest on the Sabbath, you can fellowship any day of the week all day and night praise God but to label Sunday as the Lords Day or the Sabbath is unbiblical. The apostles kept following in Yeshuas sandals, keeping the Sabbath and the Feasts. The Lords day is the day of wrath, the Day Yeshua returns and that can be found in any study Zeph is a good place to read about what happens on the Day of the Lord. It seems for some reason this is a big topic with you JCISGD, if you would like to pm me I could send you some studies on this.

I think this is a wonderful instruction on how church should convene, Sabbath discussions aside.

The only thing I can't see is an instruction on worship, but understand the time, and conditions under which the writing was done. Modern worship is probably a bit different...

hi Mizzdy, its a big topic because many today are being misled about it or are in ignorance of the facts. We are called to defend the faith and disprove error.

Can you explain how the bible verses i gave are "extra readings"? Please look up the definition of the word "sabbath", it means a seventh part and does not mean a particular day. God rested on the "seventh" day and called it a sabbath for man, can you show me where He named it "sabbath" as opposed to "seventh"?

Im not getting into a sabbath debate, my intention is to show the facts according to scripture that the Apostles and disciples met for fellowship on the first day. Wether they also kept the seventh is another topic.

Wether the Lords Day is also His return and a day of wrath, does not take away from the scriptures provided. Good bible study uses the clear verses to understand the unclear and not the other way around which leads to much error and spiritualising.

I am interested in any study, if you pm it to me i will consider it without predjudice thanks.

God bless.

Care to provide scripture for that?

In my bible it says in Math 28:1 "Now AFTER the sabbath, as the FIRST day of the week began to DAWN, Mary Mag`dalene and the other Mary came to see the TOMB"

Capitalised words are for highlight, and not shouted.

Good points made by Cobalt above imo, thanks for pointing out Lords Day vs Day of the Lord. I did not know the difference.

I started this topic carefully to avoid getting into sabbath keeping arguement, and having it closed. Im hoping it will stay focused on refuting/correcting interpretation if possible of the verses provided, and the testimony of early church teaching, and not wander to far from this.

Assembled Together For Fear Of The Jews Now Changes The Sabbath?

Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. John 20:19

The Daily Breaking Of Bread Now Changes The Sabbath?

And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight. Acts 20:7

And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. Acts 2:46-47

Working To Gather Up Gifts For The Brethren Now Changes The Sabbath?

Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. 1 Corinthians 16:2

Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:

That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly. Matthew 6:1-4

And Only Jesus Saves

Standing Fast In The Faith Now Changes The Sabbath?

Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death. Revelation 1:10-11

It shall be a sabbath of rest unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls, by a statute for ever. Leviticus 16:31

Which (For Me) Answered Any Questions I May Have Once Had About Which Day Jesus

But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
