FLEAS!!!!!!!!!

My poor little kitten is eat slap up with fleas. I mean she has lumps of flea crusty things. It is terrible. We've bathed her, and that helped for a few hours, but that night it would be festered up again. The fleas are huge!!!! and when we took her for her shots, they gave her a flea pill thing, but that didn't help. And my poor baby is suffering!!!!! HELP!!!!!!!!

Any remedies!?!?!? What should I do? Poor Sassy can't take no more scratching!! (plus I think she gave em to me :x: ) Milo (The big male tabby cat who is older) now has them too. Stupid vile little bugs.

take the poor aminal to your vet......

find a time when you might wish to board your pet, and have the house done at the same time, and take in a motel for the night.....and then when you return ( pet still not home ) vacuum good, then in a few days, hit the house again with a spray or bombs, and dont forget the yard... for it will have lots of flea eggs and live ones tooo.....

cats are a bit worse then dogs, cause they tend to roam more....

this year has been the worse year we have seen in at least 10 years for us for fleas...... this year i was spraying the yard about once a week, having the house sprayed, flea baths and dips weekly and even the flea coller and advantage ... still our one dog had problems....

we left her at the kennel for about a week, ( concrete floors and baths and care, ) while we did the house and yard, ( used the granuals on the yard twice as much as was on the bag ) and did that twice, and also sprayed the house and under the house, and did the only carpet twice...... since then we have not had any until this past week ( that was two months ago... ) so hit it again.....

your vet will have more of an idea what to use in your area......

Theyre right.. you need to bomb the whole house and send the cat to the vet..

Problem with fleas is they LEAP like mad, theyre like rocket powered armor plated little tanks, they just POP away and theyre gone.. and are hard to kill without chemicals because you cant catch them all! If even one escapes it will hop back on when its safe.

Even if you should catch individual fleas, dont let them escape.. the most sure way to kill them is to pop the shell between your fingernails if you can.. theyre so heavily armored that simple squishing usualy doesnt kill them.. they just play dead and then POP away and you lose it.

Could they be some other sort of insect rather than fleas? You did say they are quite large.....

Fleas can get QUITE fat after they have been feeding a long time, they can also grow large.. it could be ticks though, which is really just a big flea to begin with.

oh man--I had to laugh because we had the same problem about 1 year ago.

I am sorry I shouldn't laugh --but everything that everyone said just brought up the memory of the horrible encounter.

Yes flea can get big. Outs were and they were jumping every where. We had to bomb the house a few times. Had a professional come out and spray inside and out...and then a total from top to bottom house cleaning. Especially any sheets or beds and under beds that your cat may lay or sleep on. It was so much work but we eventually get rid of them.

Hang in there. :oww: All the other advice given here we also did. Flear collars do not help at all so save your money there. The vet should be able to recommend a dip for your cat as well.

As far as I'm concerned, "Advantage" is a miracle cure for fleas. My vet believes "Top Spot" is better, so I have to go elsewhere for the Advantage. (Top Spot works okay, but there a fleas again in a couple of weeks.)

Treat your cat with Advantage and buy about 4 cans of flea spray that is made for spraying on carpets and furniture. Spray every inch of every carpet in your house, wait about an hour and vacumn. They should be gone. The advantage is good for three months. Sometimes it lasts longer.

I agree though, that the way you describe it it might not be fleas at all.
