They spend about 50 to 60 percent of their income on food, and when it goes high, they get hungry and grumpy and much less tolerant of the situation they are in. Shut down the government or default on our obligations or print money...... no good choices for the next 12-24 months

When the U.S. prints up an extra couple of TRILLION dollars, this causes world wide inflation of prices. The rise in food prices actually started in 2005 when corn crops began being diverted to producing ethanol instead of being used as food. Droughts around the world (and the loss of last year's Russian wheat crop), and increased demand from rapidly developing countries (such as China and India) have caused the crisis to grow exponentially. While flooding the world with dollars is a part of the problem, it's only a small part.

Cows have a hard time prosessing the Carbs in corn and grain and it's these carbs that the bacteria eat and change into alcohol. What it left of the mash when dried makes some of the best cow feed you can find...... but it's not all being diverted to animal feed.

While flooding the world with dollars is a part of the problem, it's only a small part. Last year the United States produced round about 400 million tons of grain (corn, wheat, etc.) and 100 million tons went to ethanol production. 100 million tons of grain has the potential to sustain 300 million people for an entire year. Add to this the fact that the United States government gives farmers money NOT to use farmland and you have a massive artificial export contraction of the most basic and important staples.
