I would not subject to another's suggestion. I have to agree with the others. We belong to Christ and we should be sober minded whilst allowing the Lord to rule over our hearts and minds.

I have been giving it some thought Dave. While my "method" is me alone doing it to a degree (does not always work), what about us having the Holy spirit indwelling? If we have the Holy Spirit in us, I don't think he is going to be affected by hypnosis?

I mean to say, hypnosis cannot influence ones Spirit, only our minds. And if we are filled with the Spirit we cannot even sub consciously, be made to do anything against our nature surely?

Could something be done to us? Maybe that is the danger?

Dunno, just posing a question I guess....

Brother,

I believe that your method would be called meditation. I see no problem with that. I believe in some sense that what you are talking about is taking control of your flesh and dominating it into submission. Paul speaks of this and it is merely concentration.

Like when we go to pray and 800 million other things pop into our minds. It takes discipline to overcome that and concentrate. I believe that when the believer speaks because of the indwelling of the Spirit of God powerful things happen.

What Jade is talking about is hypnosis by another which leaves our subconcious open to suggestion. That suggestion can take all kinds of forms. We are not sinless and I would submit that this is how the enemy causes us to stumble and sin. he comes with a suggestive temptation at the most base level.

We are to be wise to the enemies wiles.

2Co 2:11

Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

Peace,

Dave

I am not disagreeing with you, just interested to see where this would go  I would not subject myself to hypnosis by another.

Other one

I have had cronic knee pain off and on since I had knee surgery in the Air Force in the late 60's. Some weeks it's particullary painful and if I try very hard I can decide that the pain feels good and a while later I'm not paying attention to it.

I know that sounds dumb, but for me it does work part of the time.

Does sound kind of dumb, and I find it hard to explain to people as well. But it is something I have worked on for a long while now, and it sometimes works.

I never thought of it in the terms Dave explains - domination of the flesh. But that makes sense.

Now just imagine if we could get it right not just for pain, but for the sin in our lives.

One lives in hope.....

I remember I had to write a topic on Hypnosis for my English class. Fears on hypnosis are from Hollywood like stories. Depending on how tired you are before going in, you are fully conscience during the session. If they suggest anything you didn't want to hear, then you are not relaxed. And therefore that suggestion wont work. You can hear what suggestions that are giving to you and if the therapist isn't going to give you what you want, then he wont get paid.

People make poor choices in their lives and its because they make those choices while they are in some sort of an emotional state. For example, it is really hard to put down a cigarette when you are in an emotional pain or falling out of love with a spouse abuser. Hypnosis is about bringing you into some relax state. From there all your anxieties are down and will allow the person performing the hypnosis to say a few calming words. The words you will hear are the same wisdom you have heard from time and time again but the theory goes that once it is said while you are relaxed, it'll have better chance to stick to your conscience. So for example the next time you pick up a cigarette or grabbing a pain pill or facing an abuser, your thoughts are clearer to counter the lure of your habit.

Real pain is real pain. No amount of hypnosis will have you ignore it. So make sure you take the require amount of medicine. But if your point is you are taking a large amount of medicine to remedy a small amount of pain, I can see how hypnosis may help.

As for subliminal messages, I think y'all are crazy if you think you aren't inundated by them all day every day.

You mentioned knee pain. I am not one to tout the "herbals" or "nutriceuticals" normally but good studies have shown that glucosamine sulfate (not the hydrochloride) 1500 mg per day (not the higher amounts the bottle may tell you to take) improves functionality and reduces pain by 20-40plus%.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
