I'm looking at an online bible. Anyway, reading revelation 6:8 and it describes a pale green horse. I have an old "living bible" I read from and it does not use the word "green" it just says pale. Does anyone's bible (not online) say "pale green horse"?

Contemporary English Version uses "pale green". Whereas, the other two versions do not. What is the significance of "pale green"?

So, literally green, or green as in unweildy, inexperienced etc? I'm tempted to go with the colour, since the following verse gives death power and that wouldn't quite mesh with the third definition of verdant.

Since this pale horse goes across the world to destroy I have kinda always seen it as a 'home grown' something that comes up from the ground and spreads which could lead to the reasoning behind the green/pale attribute. Just as death doesnt always come quickly but often silently until it rears its ugly head. Plagues happen silently until a pattern is seen, war is built up usually over time. It reminds me of cudzu, a growing ivy kinda plant that when it starts it is only stopped by burning it off thats how I see this horse, creepying unawares into our existances then overtaking us.

The word is used 3 times for green and once for pale. It just pretty much is denoting the color behind the idea I think. Death is sickly, pale and we often say 'you look green around the gills' when saying someone is sick.

Revelation 6:2 ----- White horse ---- Zechariah 1:8; 6:3

Revelation 6:4 ------- Red horse ------ Zechariah 1:8; 6:2

Revelation 6:5 ------ Black horse ----- Zechariah 6:2, 6

Revelation 6:8 ------ Pale horse - (pale is whitish or light in color) - Zechariah 1:8 ----- Speckled - Zechariah 6:3, 6, 7 ------ Grisled and Bay (you can see the prophet Zechariah described the forth horse as being speckled, grisled and bay it is not one solid color.

You can find these types of horses being used in the circuses and they are very strong. Hope this will give you an idea of what this type of horse looks like as they are not green in color.

Any of the following colors could describe a pale horse, and these are what I had in mind when I read the description as I am a horse owner. As others have posted I see that the use of “green” is giving a reference to a (how do I say it). Response to the events of the time, and not so much as an actual color per se.

Classic Champagne, ivory champagne, creme, cremello, Claybank, perlinos, silver buckskin, dun, roan and perhaps certain greys.

For our non horsey friends they may find the following of interest

I would not describe a bay as a pale horse as the body is too dark in color.

Bay color

This horse is a creme, but could fit the description of a variety of the colors listed above as there are variations and dilutes. With variations in dilute colors as well.

As far as I know, no one has called these grizzled, but brindle

speckled might be more in line with a color called fleabitten.
