Grandma, I started smoking when I was about 12 when I started working for my dad in the service station he bought and I could afford my own cigarettes. I don't think any of us knew it could be harmful to our health at the time, or I'd have not started.

Anyway I smoked for a really long time (I'm 65 now). but quit a bit over 20 years ago. My kids had allergies really bad and we were learning how damaging it can be to health. My wife quit when she got pregnant the first time. She bugged me to quit for several years, but I really didn't want to so I just smoked outside and away from home at work.

I assume she'd been praying about it cause one night while I was our puffing away under the car port in about 25 degree weather, the Lord tapped me on the shoulder and wanted to talk. He never told me to quit, but he did show me the future of where the things was going to take us.... It's much to personal go get into here, but I didn't take the cigarettes back into the house, they went directly into the trash.

I had been kind of trying to quit to suit my wife's wishes, but that just wasn't going to happen with me really not wanting to quit.

Long story short I was over the chemical dependence in about three days, but the habit of having them in my pocket and mouth really gave me some trouble. I cut up white straws the length of my Camel unfiltered cigarettes and kept them in my shirt pocket where I'd have something to grab and poke into my mouth when the phone rang....... still to this day when I answer the phone I catch myself reaching in my pocket even though I don't have an urge to smoke at all..... just a learned habit that didn't go away.

Anyway I don't think anything could get me to start smoking again for any reason.

I don't smoke (cause im 14), but I don't think there's anything wrong with it (provided that you do it at an age that it's legal) unless you're addicted to it. I think the same for drinking, too.

I don't smoke because I am 14!" :24: :24: :24: I love that!!!

Honey, I am not putting you down, but you would have to be over sixty to really appreciate the humor in what you said. :24:

i don't believe that smoking, in and of itself, is any more sinful than having a glass of wine with dinner. (which, by the way, i don't believe is a sin at all.) now, if you let it control your life, then it is a sin of idolatry.

i smoked. it may not have been the thing God wanted me doing, but i suppose there were other areas of my life He was more concerned about. many, many times here on worthy, i said that my smoking was between me and God, and when He decided to deal with me about it, i'd obey.

and i did.

after 30+ years of a 2+ pack a day habit, God told me it was time. i put them down nearly three years ago and haven't picked them up since. it was a God thing then, and it's still a God thing now. and when He is ready to deal with you about that aspect of your life, He'll let you know. until then, rest assured that HE ALONE will let you know... He's quite capable of telling you directly rather than using the dripping condemnation of non smokers.

Comparing smoking with a glass of wine is a very bad comparison. Smoking in any amount is medically proven to damage the body. Drinking in moderating on the other hand is good for your body, and Jesus also drink wine. I believe smoking is a sin because it is willfully damaging the body that God has given.

believe what you wish, i don't expect everyone to agree with me. but in my opinion, it was an apt comparison. and for those who feel it is a sin, it WOULD be for them to partake. what God does not define in scripture as sin is a matter between God and the individual.

in any case, i'm glad that i now longer smoke (even though my immune system plummeted AFTER i quit smoking). it was a costly habit, and it did control my life. God has delivered me from it, and i'm grateful He did.

Someone once asked a preacher if they would go to hell if they didn't stop smoking, and his reply was that they won't go to hell but they'll probably go to heaven earlier than expected.:)

Good points. According to scripture God made wine for the purpose of cheering a mans heart and also that Jesus was the man of sorrows. I don't recall scripture ever saying God made anything to be grown, harvested, rolled up and smoked. Drunkards are not allowed to enter into the kingdom of God because the turn the truth of God into a lie and choose to live a life of partying for the sake of partying. I don't know what God will have to say to the smokers when they show up.

Like living in Los Angeles... I had more trouble in LA than I did smoking...

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
