Notice also what is not mentioned: cousins.

Being very influenced by the Southern culture in the U.S. I was actually very interested to study this further.

I didn't realize what was considered incest until reading Deut. 18 again. Nothing like digging into God's Word.

Perhaps, as KC02 has mentioned it's a cultural thing in the U.S. re: counsins marrying. There are many examples of this in the Bible. However, I do agree we should follow the law of the land.

God bless,

GE

And here's irony for you:

The Lord forbade siblings to marry, yet previously He blessed the union of Abram and Sarai (renaming them Abraham and Sarah), who were step-siblings.

Wrap your theology around that one!

Minor point of order - Abram and Sarai were half-siblings (not step-siblings), meaning they shared one common parent.

We should note that Abram was not a Christian (no such thing yet) or even a Hebrew (again, no such thing yet).  When God called him, Abram and Sarai were living in Ur in what is modern-day Iraq.  Not having yet been called by God, it's very likely that Abram was a full participant in Chaldean culture, which would have included polytheism, idol worship, and only God knows what else Abram was up to in those days.  So, even if God opposed half-sibling marriage before giving the Law to Moses hundreds of years later, He apparently showed Abram tremendous Grace.  God seems to have a heart for the little guy - the underdog - because He always goes for the one culture rejects as most (or even partially) worthy.  For this, I am thankful.

Oops... forgot that Abram, though he was originally from Ur, had already moved to Canaan by the time of his calling.  Of course, the point about his lifestyle remains.  The Canaanites weren't exactly holy folk either :)

Hello All,

I haven't been ignoring you.....I've been reading every reply to this thread......i've spent the last 24 hours praying and seeking GODLY counsel, praying for wisdom, and receiving prayer for wisdom.....

I'm not a stranger to this subject at all....you see my 1st cousin, did indeed marry his cousin, but her bloodline was far removed from his..so the matter of having children wasn't an issue at all, they have 2 wonderful ,healthy sons...

a few years ago, my 1 of my Aunt's(my dads sister) and i were talking about the geneology of the family, as i wanted to be able to share these fact's with my own children, so that they would know there family heritage being from a southern heritage, we need to know this..or we could lose our SIGS Card...anyway.....as my Aunt and i were talking, we got to talking about the grandchildren ect, she was naming them all for me(this included Grand, Great, ect)...now up until that moment i thought i was the oldest grandchild... turns out i'm not,you see her brother had married, he and his wife had a son....i thought yes i know little T...she said no sweetie, his name was joey...he died before you were born, so my next question was, what did he die of???....then the truth came out....  my Aunt by marriage came from a family that practiced literal in breeding as in brothers and sisters.....this had a devastating effect on their 1st child......Now please don't misunderstand me here.. I love Her, shes so sweet and kind, would you the shirt off her back if you needed it....and fortunately they were able to  go on and have 5 more Healthy children....

So i'm not uninformed about these things at all......

As was loveingly pointed out to me in scripture, cousin to cousin marriages aren't forbidden  at all....

Lady C you didn't think i was just gonna take your word for it didya??... "a tree is known by it's fruit"

"test and try the spirits to see IF they are from GOD"... and thats exactly what i did, from people that i know i can trust not to twist the scriptures to meet their own end...WE've all run into this from time to time....

growing up in a southern family can carry some pretty mean insults, like your automatically thought to be, Lazy, uneducated, and run's the whole gammit right down to and including beingcalled in breeders.....i's rather be called dog face!!....so you will forgive me if i wasn't about to take your word at face value......

my biggest concern was the poor kids that suffer the tragic effect's of in-breeding, in my quest for the truth, needed to know the facts about this.....i now have those facts.....

I thank you all for your participation in this thread!

Golden Eagle, i Especially want to Thank You, for your very well thought out explanation to me.

For having the graciousness to understand that I didn't post this to Judge, or berate anyone.. i was simply taken aback at the replies ...."My bible is for reading, Not for  beating the cornflakes out of others"..lol

GBU......

Miss

Forgive me if it is rude of me to ask, but why did your daughter get so upset about some states allowing cousins to marry?

MissPlaced, i would have been concerned if you HAD taken my word for it  :t2:    way too many people do twist scripture to fit an agenda, and that's why it's always important to be like the bereans, and take no man's word for anything. i'm glad you have more peace about the issue now. i imagine the whole idea of it will still give you the heebie jeebies for a while, because a lifetime of beliefs (or misbeliefs) don't usually just vanish overnight. and that's ok. i won't fault you for that. but now when the subject is ever brought up, (if it ever presents itself again), you'll be better prepared, and will know where God stands on things.... and maybe God will want you to share that with someone else. it may be exactly why He brought this to your attention now, through the tv show your daughter watched.

so are we cool now?

LadyKay, You're not being Rude at all,But her reasoning really doesn't add anything to this discussion at all.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
