I am always sorry when politics intrudes in the olympics. The host countries work to put their country forward in the best way. The opening ceremonies in Russia were beautiful.

True, but what's being reported is pretty bad.

Case in point, I saw a report on the problem with the conditions (my school has a TV monitor that always plays CNN). The Russian response was to claim that the reporters are sabotaging everything to make their country look bad. And to back it up, they made the claim that surveillance videos showed Westerners turning on the showers and leaving, keeping the water running all day.

Umm... surveillance camera in the bathrooms?!

 

I hope Russia is able to fix the glitches, and, I hope all of the athletes come home with wonderful memories of this olympics. I hope there are some Christians who have the opportunity to share the gospel with an international audience.

What gets me is that Russia is known for having very cold winters. So what does Putin do? He picks just about the only place in Russia that has a sub-tropical climate!

Western yes, Asian, no, and French to a degree. 

 

It's a culture thing. The French use bidets, and in many places in Asia (even the big malls), water is used. Those are not small fire hoses in the pictures of the toilets, they are overkill because it is usually a small hand operated hose from the side of the toilet. That's what I think they are because I have traveled to places where all that is used is water and using paper is considered unhygienic by millions and millions of people. So let's be fair on the paper thing.

 

As I said a culture thing that 100's of millions of people around the world use.

Lol this subject has gone a bit off track, but I agree. I have traveled a lot in places where things are "different" and out of my culture/comfort zone. I always carry baby wipes, they are so handy for a host of reasons. (I use them to wipe the dust off my dashboard when I am driving in places with no water and lots of sand, I use them to wipe my hands if I get them dirty working in the field. and for the reason you mention).

 

Don't go into an upscale mall in the Philippines ( and they are amazing 1st world malls with all the usual stuff and more), or what passes for a toilet in Mozambique without them!

I'm wondering how they handled the Communism era in their Russian history presentation.
