“God's Not Dead” movie

We went to go see the “God's Not Dead” matinee movie today, rated PG, thought it fairly well done.

So passing along that thought here!

“How far would you go…to defend your belief in God?

Present-day college freshman and devout Christian, Josh Wheaton (Shane Harper), finds his faith challenged on his first day of Philosophy class by the dogmatic and argumentative Professor Radisson (Kevin Sorbo). Radisson begins class by informing students that they will need to disavow, in writing, the existence of God on that first day, or face a failing grade. As other students in the class begin scribbling the words “God Is Dead” on pieces of paper as instructed, Josh find himself at a crossroads, having to choose between his faith and his future. Josh offers a nervous refusal, provoking an irate reaction from his smug professor. Radisson assigns him a daunting task: if Josh will not admit that “God Is Dead,” he must prove God’s existence by presenting well-researched, intellectual arguments and evidence over the course of the semester, and engage Radisson in a head-to-head debate in front of the class. If Josh fails to convince his classmates of God’s existence, he will fail the course and hinder his lofty academic goals. With almost no one in his corner, Josh wonders if he can really fight for what he believes. Can he actually prove the existence of God? Wouldn’t it just be easier just to write “God Is Dead” and put the whole incident behind him? GOD’S NOT DEAD weaves together multiple stories of faith, doubt and disbelief, culminating in a dramatic call to action. The film will educate, entertain, and inspire moviegoers to explore what they really believe about God, igniting important conversations and life-changing decisions.”

     I saw the coming attractions & they really looked good & now I am doubly  excited to see this movie after reading your awesome review!!!!I didn't think it was in the theaters yet,thanks for your OP.......I love movies! This is quite a different role for Sorbo......

Kevin Sorbo played his part well as an atheist college Professor. Over the years I have seen “some” folks come to Atheism and become hardened against God through the avenue that was presented in the movie.

 

In his “real” life, Kevin Sorbo is a family man with 3 kids. He has been through a few strokes. Above all else, he mentions his being saved at 13 years old when he went to an alter call at a Billy Graham crusade.

 

Also, the synopsis/review was not mine, I  copied and pasted it from the official “God's Not Dead” link, sorry for any confusion!

I think it summarized the movie in a fair way, and was not “hyped up” as some can be.

I never heard of this film, but it does sound interesting.

The movie is showing in the southern parts of my state. I sure hope it comes up north so I don't have to wait for the DVD.  I'll probably purchase the DVD anyway ...

I rarely ever go to the movies.  Most of the time I get the DVD, or watch it on Netflix of Hulu.  It costs too much to go to the movies, especially when you include the popcorn and drinks.  I like a Drive Inn, but the closest one to my home is an hour away.

It's an upgrade from some of the past one's Pureflix has put out that we have viewed. The quality was there along with a theme seemed to flow well. They spent a few more bucks on this one and gave it some thought.

 

In the past we have all seen some money spent with great quality and effects, yet follows with a lackey disconnected theme, and little if any Christian message.

At the same time, we have all seen a great theme with a fair to good Christian message, with low budget quality.

 

Butero, I'm with ya, we have not been to a matinee movie in years. The “matinee” price in our area was about $9.50. Hate to see the “regular” price... I got a kick recently on TV when they had shown that some theaters pipe in the fresh smell of popcorn into the area where the movie is being shown to get those buyers to the concession stands.

Way to slow of a connection for us to receive Netflix or Hulu.

 

Most of the time we buy, buy used, (pawn shop, yard sales $2 DVDs) rent, (redbox $1.20) or trade (swapaDVD.com) for a DVD around here.

Sounds quite worthwhile...Apologetics is so important:  As Machen wrote - "We may preach with all the fervor of a reformer and yet succeed only in winning a straggler here and there, if we permit the while collective thought of the nation or of the world to be controlled by ideas which, by the resistless force of logic, prevent Christianity from being regarded as anything more than a harmless delusion."

Was reporting this discrimination incident to an advisor and the administration not an option?  Interesting premise for a movie, but not sure how it would be legal to treat one student different than all others on the basis on religion.
