1 Timothy 2:12 And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence.

Dear Jacqueline,

This is in regard to position within the body/church, it does not hinder a woman from sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ, it just defines the order that God implemented from the very beginning with Adam and Eve in the garden.

The early church had female deacons, we know that churches often meet in the homes of women. We know in the old testement a women was a judge, and so many other roles in the old testement.

Even though the days of the King James Bibile, women though culture were often considered mere property, often not even having the right to inherit property.

Also as in every "single" verse in the bible, we can not take one verse out of context.

Pauls letter for women to stay quiet in church was addressing a specifc problem that church was having with a group of women. If we use that then they should not be sunday school teachers, they should not have any rule but to sit quiet and smile at thier husbands ( hey don't sound to bad to me)

I have spent 30 years dealing with this issue in my heart, I once felt as your church does that they should not be. But I found I was wrong, that scripture also says we are all equal in God's eyes. And I have seen ministries blessed by God that were lead by women.

So all I can say, you have to follow your own heart, ifyou beleive that you local church is in error, you will never change most of the others minds, but you will have to decide if you wish to continue to worship there or not.

Deacons, however, served a different purpose than they do today. The problem most people run into when interpreteting these passages...even the Bible...is they do so from a modern paradigm. We must instead look at the historical context of "why" and what purpose each one served. To say "these scriptures are only applicable to yesterday" is to render the Bible useless in all aspects. Christ's sacrifice would no longer be needed for we do not live under the law in the present world...back then they did. So under that culture I cannot accept Christ in the modern world.

When we try to justify a certain passage as refering to just that time, we run into A LOT of problems.

I agree whole-heartedly SuperJew. It does usher in a whole new set of problems, when we try to adjust passages to suit certain time periods, rather than rendering them true and applicable for today.

Amen and amen. You said it better than I could.

There is also the entire message of God's order in Jesus, man, woman, seen throughout Scripture and not just "one or two verses" that we try to explain away by saying "oh, that was just for then". JMO.

People who preach this usually take a couple verses, out of context and out of historical context and create their own doctrine.  Jesus used many women in his ministry.  Women have been used by God in the church since day 1.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Speaking of taking a verse out of context

Lu 11:46  And he said, Woe unto you also, [ye] lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers.

Lu 11:52  Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered.

Paul gives a perfectly good reason for keeping women out of the "teaching/authority" positions.
1Ti 2:14  And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
By implication women tend to be deceived more easily that men when it comes to spiritual things. And I didn't say men cannot be deceived. Even though the culture is important, the Word is as applicable today as it was when it was written. The Word of God does not change.

No where does it state that ALL women cannot preach.  It was directed at just those few that didn't know what they were talking about, uneducated in theology, coming out of the cults.  There are also men that Paul said should be silenced in the next book.  Priscilla had to pull Apollos, a man, aside and teach him the truth whereas he was teaching incorrectly.  ANYONE who preaches wrong should be silent in the church and learn.  How can ANYONE learn if they will not be quiet.  Ever notice how non-christians and some new christians talk in church?  They need to be in a respectful silence for the pastor God has sent to teach them.  You may ask me questions on this point.  There is even more to it.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Aquilla and Priscilla had to pull him aside...a husband a wife had to :)

Paul states specifically why he doesn't want a woman in authority over a man in a church setting...he appeals to the fall of man.

Up until now this has been a civil discussion. Please lets keep it that way.

I combined the new thread on Women Preachers with this one. Lets just keep it all on one thread, OK?

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
