Why rewards if heaven is the assured goal?

The apostle was a wise master-builder; but the grace of God made him such. Spiritual pride is abominable; it is using the greatest favours of God, to feed our own vanity, and make idols of ourselves. But let every man take heed; there may be bad building on a good foundation. Nothing must be laid upon it, but what the foundation will bear, and what is of a piece with it. There are others, whose corrupt opinions and doctrines, or vain inventions and usages in the worship of God, shall be made known, disowned, and rejected, in that day. This is plainly meant of a figurative fire, not of a real one; for what real fire can consume religious rites or doctrines? And it is to try every man's works, those of Paul and Apollos, as well as others. Let us consider the tendency of our undertakings, compare them with God's word, and judge ourselves, that we be not judged of the Lord.

But, for the Christian who has been assured and re-assured of his salvation, why are works necessary? What works would they be that God would require them and even judge the quality of them?

Why would He call that one who produces none, "slothful"? ___and why would any Christian call it  all "works salvation"?

     I do not believe it is "works" how some may perceive.....granted,faith without works is dead but I understand this better as putting faith into action.......Works do not afford Salvation ....but Salvation affords works(if that makes sense to you )

WE read in Ephesians 2:8-10 the reason why. People skim over the last sentence.

You're premise is wrong.  Heaven isn't the goal.   Glorifying God is the goal.  That is why works are necessary.  We are saved so that we can live in a way that glorified the Lord.

Since it is, we can't get people saved [Jesus does that], can you "put legs" on what you believe God's will is that we should be performing it that in the end we might have influence?

!! You picked up on that pretty fast, Shiloh! It is the Destiny of all Christians, isn't it? Do you believe, having to do with overcoming self, we might equate "picking up our cross daily" with "works", doing the will of God? Do you see overcoming temptations anywhere in that?
