It says John 3:5 no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the spirit. (NIV Bible Version) matt 3:11 acts 1:5 1 john 5:6 its referring to jesus work not something we do. i dont feel conscience stricken to have never been water baptized. That isn't the truth. You are right when you say we experience a changed heart at salvation---before baptism. (NIV Bible Version) This came up in another thread and I think this reply fits here as well Baptism is an outward expression of an inward faith. It is something a christian should do in obedience to Christ. I think if someone is a true born again Bible believing Christian they will desire to be baptized. I do not believe that baptism is necessary for salvation because that would take away from the cross. Ephesians 2:8-9 NKJV For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. I would just like to add one last thing. If water baptism was a necessity for salvation, that is, it was required to be saved, then Jesus would have been made a liar when he told the thief on the cross next to him that he would be in heaven. But we are told that it is by grace that your are saved through faith; and that not of yourselves. It is a gift of God , not of works, so that no one can boast. Eph. 2 After we turn away from sin and look to Christ to forgive us, He leads us to start doing things that befit repentance. We tell others, we read the Bible, we are baptized and do other such things that are produced by our faith. Yes, but Jesus told us to be baptized and if we refuse when we have had the change, I would think it would be a definate example of us not having him as our Lord for we were not following his requests/demands. Or maybe they had a good reason for not getting water baptized. For example, people turning it into a circumcision.
