How is this ice bucket helping. Dumping ice water on your head is not money to give.

It's not.  I think it's a consciousness-awareness exercise.  It's dumb and I, personally, wouldn't do it.  Maybe I'm too old to see the relevance of the whole thing.

The ice bucket is a public declaration that you are giving to the ALS research organization that started all this....    It then gives you the right to ask someone else to do the same.

So when you see an ice dump, you are looking at someone who has taken the pledge......   and part of that pledge is to donate something to that group.

If everyone really does live up to there pledge, it should raise a lot of money.....   and should go down in history as a very good advertising idea..

The person who dumps ice on their head donates 10 dollars to ALS research (It doesn't have to be to the ALSA foundation as they support embryonic stem cell research (using aborted children to harvest stem cells), you can give to other pro-life organizations). If you decline the ice bucket challenge, you have to give 100 dollars to an ALS research facility.

how it works is this.

someone who has taken the challenge then issues a challenge. the challenge is, within 24 hours you have to get chilled and wet AND donate $10, OR donate $100, to ASLA.

the ice bucket dumped on your head causes a reaction that some say emulates the symptoms of lou gherig's disease.

the TRUTH about the challenge, IMO, is that it amounts to schoolyard bullying. kinda like a grown up version of 'truth or dare'. if you refuse to take the challenge, you're subjected to taunting and teasing, being called (at best) chicken, or (at worse) an unfeeling, uncaring individual. there's no consideration for the fact that many people who have no interest in participating simply have no money. there's no instructions or PSA that individuals with certain medical conditions (including any sort of heart condition) could die as a result. there are no instructions or PSA that if one chooses to do this on a very hot day or after any sort of physical activity that causes one's body temperature to be raised, it could be fatal. there are no instructions or PSA that by doing this, you will end up chilled to the bone for so long that you could end up very sick. there are no instructions or PSA (aside from youtube ice bucket fails videos) that warn you about lifting heavy buckets above your head, or having someone stand on something that they might slip off of, and other things that should be common sense but keep winding up in injuries. there aren't a whole lot of people talking (at least until recently) about where all those donations go. only a fraction goes to helping the people who are afflicted. most of it goes to research... which is fine except that the ASLA makes no apologies for the fact that it openly focuses much of its research on embryonic stem cells.

and there are often no instructions that in taking the challenge, one must ALSO still donate $10.

there are people who have taken the challenge and chosen to donate to elsewhere, but that's NOT part of the rules of the challenge. people who modify it that way, IMO, are doing nothing to raise awareness for THEIR preferred cause... maybe they're doing it for their 15 seconds of fame on facebook and youtube. or maybe they're doing it because they're afraid to back down from the challenge. or maybe they're doing it because they really want to get cold and wet. who the heck knows. but it violates the "rules" of the challenge.

i got challenged. i reluctantly said i'd do it at a time more convenient for myself. ironically, i said i would do it AFTER mowing my lawn when i was so hot i wanted to get cold and wet.... which would be the most physically dangerous time to do it. the ironic part of that? the person who challenged me, and then who chided me for being a "chicken", has been a nurse for 30 years,.. and yet she didn't take a moment to say "hey c, that would be really dangerous." nope, she just teased me for not having the balls to do it.

and i didn't do it.

i donate on a regular basis to a local charity that is much nearer and dearer to my heart. it's not that i don't care about those afflicted with lou gherig's disease, but there are SOOO many other causes that are JUST as worthwhile, and JUST as in need of funding.

Well, you better not name me to do it for we have other more pressing diseases in our house to help fund......   I might send it to the MS research people......     but mostly we send it to Bayer who makes the $52,000 a year drug my wife takes to stop the progression of her M.S.

i wonder if we could start a new challenge and see if it would go viral.... the challenge being to either eat a can of pet food, or to donate a bag of GOOD groceries to the nearest food bank? of course, i'd much rather see video of someone dropping off a bag of groceries than to eat cat food.

They're doing a different challenge in India now. Insetad of dumping ice water it's called the Rice Bucket Challenge. So either you give a bucket of rice to someone in need there and donate 10 dollars to your prefered choice of ALS research or you donate 100 dollars.

I really dont consider this bullying. I haven't come across any bullying in my group of friends. We've all been more than willing to help spread the word about ALS and its challenges. I found out many of my friends have family members who have died from ALS. I think it has also help start a discusion on embryonic stem cell research! I've been able to talk with people who would never normally talk to me about abortion and stuff. It's open doors for more than a talk on ALS but ethical research standards and how we can still support research facilities that support the sanctity of life.

i like the idea of the rice bucket challange.

but i still think demanding others take part in an either or scenario is bullyish. ESPECIALLY if the person is criticized, teased, or called names should they choose to decline.

I am lost on the point of having to pay 90 bucks more if one declines the challenge.  Or did I read that wrong?

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
