Adam was 130 years old when seth was born.

Gen 5:3 When Adam had lived 130 years, he fathered a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth.

We are not told just how old Adam and Eve were when Cain and Able were born, but if we speculate and say that Cain was an adult, say 30 years old.

Then it would indicate that they must have been a 100 years old when they started to reproduce, and then only after the fall to fulfill what God commanded them to do immediately after He had created them.

Gen 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

Gen 1:28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth."

Why, I wonder did it take them a 100 years before they obeyed His first command to them.

Edwin.

You wonder why they waited 100 yrs, but its based on your speculation that cain was 30. He could just as easily have been 129 yrs.

There are some questions that just don't have biblical answers.  Where scripture is silent, shouldn't we follow suit?  All our questions will be answered in the next life.

Again there isn't enough information to assume/speculate much about these things.

Though I will agree that it's fun to muse over.

We know from Scripture that Adam lived 980 years and begat sons and daughters

but  we simply don't know the order of birth for all of Adam & Eves

children, nor the number of children that they had.

And as you say, you're speculating that Cain was 30... he may have just as easily

been 70. Furthermore you added the word "immediately" in your speculation... I didn't

see that in Scripture?

It needs to be pointed out that the Bible doesn't really tell us how much time has elapsed between chapters.  When we read the Bible is important to understand that from Adam to the Tower of Babel is about 2,500 years.  We tend to think things happened in rapid immediate succession, but they didn't.

Edwin, we seem to only hear about the males in that pre flood writings......    there is no way to know if they had a bunch of girls or not......    wives had to come from somewhere, and they were the only two to have them for a while.

Understand that is only speculation on my part, but it helps me understand where Cain's wife and others came from.

It's also interesting to think that Adam lived for a little more than a third of the time to the tower of Babel also.

Blessings Edwin...

Perhaps Teditis made a typing error but Adam lived to be 930 yrs old....in any event.......having a lifespan of nearly 1000 years makes  having a child at 13o pretty quickly ,doesn't it? Anyway,,,,God never said anything about sooner or later or immediate

Remember that the story of Adam and Eve and their 900+ years of life are contained into just about 10 pages! We ABSOLUTELY do not know everything there is to know about them. One assumption most people make is that Cain and Abel were the first two children born. There are merely the first two mentioned because of the major plot of Cain and Satan to kill Abel. But one thing to note is that after that event when God is banishing Cain, he is afraid that ALL the other people around are going to kill him. What other people? If Cain and Abel were the only two around, who would be there to kill him? It seems evident that Adam and Eve had already been having children, probably as soon as they left the garden, and there were lots of sons and daughters, who also had been reproducing. Then the next great notable event was the birth of Seth, who was a righteous man.

I don't think Adam did wait that long, it mentions he children it does for a reason but it mention he had other sons ad daughters. The bible lists Cain because he symbolized running from which started when he killed Abel and Seth is who Noah and the rest the of the world post flood our desendents of.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
