The message in tongues is that it takes faith to do it. If one has never exercised that faith then how will he understand? It doesn’t matter what language one speaks -- tongues is universal to all who speak in tongues and all who do and from different languages understand. Tongues is least of the gifts and usually is the first time one actually uses faith to manifest a result. I guess some cant muster even enough faith to accomplish the simplest task, let alone heal the sick or raise the dead. But these things do follow those who believe and use His faith to manifest a result. Having faith in Christ is not the same as having the faith of Christ, you are supposed to have His faith. No faith produces no results.

I do hope that those who claim to have a spiritual gift are sure that they are not being fooled like this woman was. As someone else mentioned in this forum, Satan can imitate the things of God!

No, If I was the devil, I would want believers to think they can actually get devils if they go after tongues. As a devil, I sure don't want believers operating in this awesome gift, as I have a hard enough time defeating the Children of God.

Devils are smarter than this, and Jesus said if you ask for a The Holy Spirit God is not going to give you a serpent, or anything harmful. People back then accused Jesus of using demonic power, and Not Holy Ghost Power and the Lord has already covered this objection.

Everything we get from God takes faith, saved by faith, through grace, According to your faith, your healed, Without faith, we can't even please God. The Word operates the same no matter what your asking. We are told to desire spiritual gifts.... If you don't go after, seek, desire them, God will not bother you with it. You can then misquote the scripture and say. "Do all speak in tongues? Nope, and I sure don't."

ABC news did a special on this (Surprising) look up ABC Speaking in Tongues: Alternative Voices in Faith There is amazing science behind praying in tongues, and just normal prayer, or chanting like Muslims.

When I first saw tongues, I was in Prison. That group was far different than my Baptist up bringing, but in Prison we don't have lots of choices on who we fellowship with as Christians. I just watched, and kept quite, no matter how silly I thought it all was.

I then started to watch christian shows I never watched, (Not that I Gave God the time of day before going to prison.) People go up, get hands laid on them, then BAM they fall down "Slain" in the spirit, speaking in tongues. Slain in the Spirit, there is a bible term...... right....

These brothers in Prison where always full of joy, never down, always the same, strong, confident. If cancer came, or gang related issues, I saw God fix it, with no doubting a thing. A whole lot different than the Christians I was use to. Defeated, always having issues, depressed, poor sinners just barley saved by grace, sniff, sniff. I was one of those down ones, crying, I hated prison, Hated my new life as a inmate, always had issues to discuss that I thought I had.

Had I not been with these men, I doubt I would have bought into the tongue stuff, or much of anything else. I can remember being told. "I don't want to hear you crying, I want to hear what scripture you are standing on, and believing God for."

2 Years later..............

God gave me charge of my own 20 or so Christians, I organized prayer time, did my best to make sure our Baptist, Lutherans, and whatever who did not speak in tongues were uncomfortable, Kept us together. We believed together, prayed together every night in a circle.

Tongues is real, it's for every believer. Just ask God, and seek it.

Be blessed.

There are 2 purposes of tongues:

1) confirmation of receiving the baptism with the Holy Spirit (nothing to do with salvation)

2) one of the 9 "anointing" gifts of the Spirit listed in 1 Cor. 12

Please don't get these 2 confused.

I received the baptism of the Holy Ghost at a tent meeting many years back, and have spoken in tonuges ever since. I was surprised to see how many people that voted in the poll have spoken in tongues.

I agree. I find it interesting when old threads are brought back, because you see posts by people that used to be active members, but left. I often wonder why they lost interest? :noidea:

In answer to the OP, yes, I was baptized in Holy Spirit in the early 70's and spoke in tongues once, then let it get away from me. Then, about 17 years ago, I had another experience with Holy Spirit and received tongues afresh, in response to my earnest request of God, and have not stopped since!

As I said, the message in tongues is to the individual and that message is -- and lesson learned -- it takes exercising faith to accomplish the task at hand.

And tongues are not evidence one has received the Holy Ghost, tongues is evidence one exercised faith. The evidence one has received Gods Holy Spirit is he does the things Jesus did, and Paul, and all of those who received the same from God even Jesus. Matt 3:16. Only then was it manifest to do the things of God if we have the same as these did. Christ manifest in you and walk in the same light as He.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
