For those who practice this......

Can you do this anytime, anywhere? Or it is limited to certain times, places, moods, etc?

Anytime.

thumbsup.gif

Anytime, anyplace.

As long as it is in another language that is recognizable as a language, fine. What I have heard practiced in American Pentecostal/Charismatic churches doesn't qualify. "Shonda dabonda galonda, si my new bow tie" (and other such foolishness) is hardly a foreign language. When you couple such nonsense with other alleged manifestations of the Spirit, like barking, howling and shaking and so forth, it turns a church service into a circus.

The evidence of the Holy Spirit is love, not tongues.

Tongues are an evidence of the HS, but not the only evidence.

howling! does that bring back memories. Back many, many, many years ago before my wife and I were married, we were invited to a tent revival meeting. We were sitting there listening to the sermon and all of the sudden this guy gets up, leans against a tent pole and starts howling like a wolf. On the way home I told my better half "we are never going back there again".

The fullness of the Holy Spirit is you have in you what Jesus had in him. God sent Jesus to show us what it is to have Gods Spirit. If one has Gods Spirit as Jesus had Gods Spirit then the evidence is we are like Him and one with the Father and do the things Jesus did and more and that takes faith. Tongues are only an exercise in faith and it is the easiest for using faith, least of the gifts. Most people cant muster enough faith to even do the most simple exercise in faith and speak in tongues let alone heal the sick, raise the dead -- and these signs do follow those who have His Spirit and exercise His faith. Watch how people will remark negatively to that last statement and make excuses why I cant or they can’t do these things. And then the question arise – Well Joe, do you heal the sick and raise the dead. And my reply is I can’t do many mighty works in some because of peoples doubt and unbelief. Jesus had the same problem.

Matthew 13:58

And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

And it wasn’t because Jesus didn’t have the faith to do it, it was that people didn’t have faith and believe that he could. And most don’t believe it now when the same is presented to them.

Joe

And tongues are not evidence one has received the Holy Ghost, tongues is evidence one exercised faith. The evidence one has received Gods Holy Spirit is he does the things Jesus did, and Paul, and all of those who received the same from God even Jesus. Matt 3:16. Only then was it manifest to do the things of God if we have the same as these did. Christ manifest in you and walk in the same light as He.

Joe

It is an evidence of the presence of the fullness of the Holy Spirit in a life. There are other evidences, but tongues is the most easily read manifestation.

We do it anytime and anywhere and at any occasion we are led to. I find in my life, that when I am filled with awe and desire to praise my King and worship Him, I will begin to worship in tongues, and it is a fabulous blessing to my spirit to do that.

Yes the gift of tongues does come from God, though what is manifested and heard is not always the gift of tongues from God. One may need to discern sometimes. ... which is not easy and where the gift of discerning comes in.

I mostly use it in prayer and worship on my own, but occasionally in corporate prayer and worship when appropriate.

Watch out for those who think not having the gift of tongues is a sign of unbelief, it is not. Being a believer or the indwelling of the Holy Spirit is dependant on believing what Christ taught (John 14-17) not having a particular gift. Also beware of those who say it should be forbidden, which is unbelief (1 Cor 14:39)

If I need to speak in tongues I will. It has always been directed by the Holy Spirit, and has been involuntary. I am usually conservative in my worship around others (a failing? Perhaps).

But when I talk in tongues it is because I have to, I can't help myself, and I don't care who listens, or what they think. But it is seldom this happens. I don't think, I can't think, I just "talk". I know it is worship because my heart tells me it is.

There are prayers that break the backs of words....

I hope this will not be too terribly far off topic, but a question has come up on a different thread that may be beneficial to be answered by some here....

To thos who practice this:

Is this something you practiced from the time you became Christian? Or did it begin at a later time?

Also, it is something you were taught, or developed in another way?

It was well after I accepted Christ that I even know of any gifts. This is not something that I "practiced", but was the Holy Spirit speaking through me. At first, I was hesitant to allow Him to do so, but then it became a blessing and a natural experience to pray in tongues. I knew in my heart that this was right.

It happened a while after I was saved. Once I learned of it, I wanted it & asked for it. I was in a powerful praise & worship at an assembly & was somewhat pleasantly surprised to find myself singing in tongues. It was awesome & I have never stopped.

A mirror image of how I came to speak in tongues Alan

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
