Thanks for the consensus, please also be open to the possibility that he is the king of the north and does not "war against the king of the north" as you say. Please read the appropriate verse in this regard, with the possibility the "king of the north" is still the main subject, as per the earlier king of the north in verses 21-35:

39 He (the antichrist) will attack the mightiest fortresses with the help of a foreign god and will greatly honor those who acknowledge him. He (the antichrist)  will make them rulers over many people and will distribute the land at a price.[d]

40 “At the time of the end the king of the South will engage him in battle, and the king of the North (the antichrist?) will storm out against him (the king of the south?)  with chariots and cavalry and a great fleet of ships. He (the antichrist) will invade many countries and sweep through them like a flood. 41 He (the antichrist) will also invade the Beautiful Land.

So you don't see three players in verse 40? The 'him' is introduced in verse 39. This the the 'him' that the King of the North and the King of the South war against in verse 40. It's not possible for the king of the north to be the antichrist from these verses. You are suggesting that the 'him' in verse 39 is the King of the North. That means the King of the South is engaged in battle with the King of the North in the beginning of verse 40. You suggest that the king of the north will storm out against the king of the south. But they are already engaged in battle aren't they?

And there's this: at the start of v 40 the K of the S is engaged in battle with 'him'. Then, in addition to the battle already joined, the K of the N storms out. That's what the word 'and' denotes, 'in addition', 'also'.

Clearly the K of the S and the K of the N are not fighting each other, they are ganging up on 'him'.

I used to see 3 players as you do. But now I see two players. I believe both views are possible regarding the wording but also believe their should be continuity with those verses up until v35 (battles between the king of the north and king of the south).

36 “The king (KOFN) will do as he pleases. He (KOTN)  will exalt and magnify himself above every god and will say unheard-of things against the God of gods. He (KOTN) will be successful until the time of wrath is completed, for what has been determined must take place. 37 He (KOTN) will show no regard for the gods of his ancestors or for the one desired by women, nor will he regard any god, but will exalt himself above them all. 38 Instead of them, he will honor a god of fortresses; a god unknown to his ancestors he will honor with gold and silver, with precious stones and costly gifts. 39 He (KOTN) will attack the mightiest fortresses with the help of a foreign god and will greatly honor those who acknowledge him. He will make them rulers over many people and will distribute the land at a price.[d]

40 “At the time of the end the king of the South will engage him (KOTN)  in battle, and the king of the North (KOTN) will storm out against him  (KOTS) with chariots and cavalry and a great fleet of ships. He (KOTN) will invade many countries and sweep through them like a flood. 41 He (KOTN) will also invade the Beautiful Land. Many countries will fall, but Edom, Moab and the leaders of Ammon will be delivered from his (KOTN) hand.42 He (KOTN)  will extend his power over many countries; Egypt will not escape. 43 He (KOTN) will gain control of the treasures of gold and silver and all the riches of Egypt, with the Libyans and Cushites[e] in submission. 44 But reports from the east and the north will alarm him (KOTN) , and he (KOTN) will set out in a great rage to destroy and annihilate many. 45 He (KOTN) will pitch his royal tents between the seas at[f] the beautiful holy mountain. Yet he (KOTN) will come to his end, and no one will help him.

I understand. But there is a change from the battles between the Kings of the North and South. The narrative now focuses on a King who exalts himself. A willful king. Blasphemous. A king who is successful until wrath is completed. This description in v 36 introduces a new player. The other two kings were not described in this type of detail nor do they have the attributes enumerated in v 36. Why would the messenger cease naming King of the North and King of the South and begin to use the personal pronoun? Then the messenger throws even more confusion into the narrative by naming the king of the north, the king of the south and him. It makes little sense to suddenly include a personal pronoun when speaking of the two previously named kings when the messenger named them consistently from the beginning of the chapter to v 35. The 'him' from v 36 is the self exalting, willful king who wars against the Kings of the North and the South. A third player that has a crucial attribute the other two kings lack. The Kings of the North and the South are already kings, they have countries and militaries. They are already exalted in the eyes of the world and the people they govern. This willful king is not. He exalts himself. He raises his own status to godhood and then above all gods.

I changed the fonts, all too large , sorry for starting that, when I copy and paste often the fonts change.

Firstly I agree there is a new player from v36. I believe he is the end-times King of the North. He has some similarities to the earlier King of the North (Antiochus Epiphanes). Yes he is a wilful king, who exalts himself, so did Antiochus regard himself as a god.  I'm battling to see any valid points why he cannot be the king of the north. There is no grammatical reason to see him as a different person. Yes he is different to the earlier king of the north. All the kings of the north had their own personalities, and this final king of the north will be the antichrist and so of course he will have differences to the others.

Numerous "kings of the north" are described from verse 1-35, all having their unique traits, and often the words "he" or "him" are used. Also only when the KOTS is mentioned then the bible has to call him the "king of the north" at that moment because if the word "he" was used, this would confuse us with the "king of the south". So there is good reason why "he" is used until the "KOTS" is mentioned.

If one's eyes are looking to Islam for that wicked one to come, then they will lose that window of opportunity to sound that alarm which will not only be a failure on the watchman's behalf, but also on those he is meant to warn.

Good point.

For many people mistakenly expect the Antichrist will be a Muslim, and will even claim to be the Muslim "Mahdi".

Regarding the Muslim "Mahdi", during the Antichrist's rise to power, before he declares himself God (2 Thessalonians 2:4, Daniel 11:36) and begins his 3.5-year worldwide reign (Revelation 13:4-18), if he greatly increases the military and political power of the Arab world, which is mostly Muslim, many Muslims could declare him to be the Mahdi. They could do this even though he won't fulfill most of the detailed Muslim prophecies regarding the Mahdi. For the Muslim prophecies regarding the Mahdi aren't scriptural, and so nothing requires that they will all be fulfilled. Also, the Antichrist could reject the solely-human title of the "Mahdi", in his own mind, as being far beneath what he sees as his divinity. And before he declares himself to be God, if he rejects the title of "Mahdi" publicly, he could pretend to do so for humble reasons, saying something like: "Oh, no, I am not the great Mahdi, but a humble peacemaker who wants the best for all Arabs and for all mankind, no matter what religion they may presently follow", etc.

Also, the first person whom Muslims will declare to be the Mahdi may not even be the Antichrist. For before the Antichrist arises on the world stage (Daniel 11:21-45), an Iraqi Baathist General could lead an all-out war against Israel which will result in its total defeat and occupation (Daniel 11:15-17; in verse 17, the original Hebrew word translated as "daughter" is "bath"). This Iraqi Baathist General could then be hailed by Muslims worldwide as the Mahdi. But he will subsequently suffer a defeat (perhaps in Algeria), and then he will mysteriously disappear (Daniel 11:18-19), so that the Muslims could say that they were mistaken in thinking that he was the Mahdi.

Similarly, years later, when the Antichrist claims to be God (2 Thessalonians 2:4, Daniel 11:36), and starts forcing the world to worship him (the individual-man aspect of the beast) and Lucifer (the dragon, Satan) (Revelation 13:4-8, Revelation 12:9) and an image of the Antichrist (Revelation 13:15), if many Muslims had said that he was the Mahdi, some of them could say that they were mistaken. Also, these actions by the Antichrist will result in a fatwa, a death sentence, being issued against him by radical Muslim clerics, which fatwa Islamic terrorists could then try to carry out by waging all-out jihad ("holy war") against the Antichrist. For they hold most strongly to Islam's tenets that no man can be God, that Lucifer/Satan is evil, and that no image can be worshipped. But the terrorist part of Islam (just as even the moderate part of Islam, and just as even public, Biblical Christianity) will eventually be wiped out during the Antichrist's future, literal 3.5-year worldwide reign, when everyone (not in hiding) will be forced to either convert to the Antichrist's religion of Gnostic Luciferianism or be killed (Revelation 13:4-18; 1 John 2:22; 2 John 1:7).

Also, even though Jews today don't go around killing people for religious reasons, by the time that the Antichrist declares himself to be God, some ultra-Orthodox Jews, led by a miracle-working false "Messiah", might also feel inspired to try to kill the Antichrist for blasphemy, especially when he will commit it (at least one time) even within their own (future) temple (2 Thessalonians 2:4) in Jerusalem, and he will defile that temple (Daniel 11:31,36, Matthew 24:15). The Antichrist could also sit (at least one time) in every other religions' holiest shrine and declare himself to be God there as well. For example, he could sit in Islam's Kaaba in Mecca, in the Sikhs' Golden Temple in Amritsar, in Catholicism's St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican, etc. This could result in the radical adherents of every religion becoming so enraged at the Antichrist that they will attempt to assassinate him. But they will all fail to defeat him, for he won't be defeated until he is cast alive into the lake of fire at Jesus' 2nd coming (2 Thessalonians 2:8-9, Revelation 19:20).

--

In Muslim prophecy, besides the Mahdi, there is also "The Masih ad-Dajjal", or "The False Messiah", whom Muslims say will appear in the end times. While Bible prophecy shows that there will be multiple false Messiahs, who will be able to perform amazing miracles (Matthew 24:24), Muslims could focus on one of these, a miracle-working, ultra-Orthodox Jewish false "Messiah" in Israel, as being "The Masih ad-Dajjal", after he declares himself to be the Messiah but then (with his ultra-Orthodox Jewish followers) completely destroys the Muslim Dome of the Rock and the Al Aqsa Mosque (the 3rd holiest sites in Islam) on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, in order to clear the site for the building of a 3rd Jewish temple.

It could be this destruction of the Muslim Dome of the Rock and the Al Aqsa Mosque, by a man whom the Muslims could declare to be "The Masih ad-Dajjal", which will give rise to the war in which another man, an Arab who could be the first man whom the Muslims will declare to be the Mahdi, will completely defeat and occupy Israel (Daniel 11:15-17).

I think a more important point that we are missing is how the antichrist comes to power. It's not like the typical way leaders come to power. It's going to be based on supernatural power the likes of which we have never witnessed. It's not political acumen, military power, great wealth, superior intelligence or brilliant problem solving ability that vaults this man to power. His power and position comes through a supernatural event effected by a powerful supernatural being with an obsessive need to usurp, subjugate and destroy the earth. The man, the antichrist, will be the tool by which one of the most powerful spiritual beings attempts to carry out this evil plan, millennia in the making. Scripture records the world wonders after the beast after he receives the deadly head wound and is healed. Scripture records the awe of the world in the statements, "Who is like him?" and, " Who can make war with him?"  Do you see the difference in the antichrist setting him apart from the politicos? "Who is like him?" Everyone knows he is different from any other leader. After all, no one else has recovered from a deadly head wound so he is unique. It's the head wound that sets him apart from everyone else. The world also thinks he is so powerful that no one can fight against him and prevail. This is likely due to the idea that he can't be killed and the presence of the dragon on earth. Scripture records the world worships the dragon and the beast at the same time. It's evident the world can see the dragon has empowered the beast, as the scripture records.

We have to stop looking toward the political arena for this man to arise and be empowered to destroy the earth under the power of the supernatural and the guidance of the dragon. It's never going to be like we believe, it's will be as God decreed.

This is how I see it too.  The supernatural fireworks he uses to uproot three of the ten kings will give him an air of invincibility.  Its by the signs and wonders he performs that he will deceive the world into believing that he is God.

Some points to consider

First, the falling away has been an ongoing event & by the time that wicked one appears it shall have played out it's part accordingly.

Second, God is the one sending strong delusion amongst men to further complement / complete / "cap off" that falling away .. so they may believe the coming deception / lie & be condemned together.

Thirdly, yes that wicked man uses miracles and the like (very effectively too), but he still needs to use his marvellous words to achieve his goal, and these marvellous words are really aimed at ONE GROUP (unbelievers will be a cake walk for this man) .. BUT ..  believers in Christ will need extra "care" .. for to deceive them convincingly.

Many people believed in Christ's miracles for example yet rejected WHO Christ said He was .. obviously miracles are not enough, they need to be complemented by something else hence the marvellous words that "wear down the saint's" .. the words themselves are doing the wearing down, the miracles are like his "credentials" adding to those words credibility. (I am greatly over simplifying this very deep process btw & do not mean to play down the significance of miracles, but as I said, ONE group will need EXTRA prompting which miracles ALONE will not be enough UNLESS one is an unbeliever),

You see, one needs to FIRST believe those marvellous words & only THEN you can "believe / accept" who he attributes those miracles to .. and he attributes them to himself.

It is a dark scheme at work here after all .. and every scheme has sub plots which make up the whole.

Fourth, Babylon the Great doublecrosses Israel, see Isaiah chapter 28 .. this is not some "peace treaty" being signed, this is a PLOT .. a dark scheme being hatched by Israel AND her allies.. and this ally is that "smoke from the north", this is that king of the north .. the false prophet & his armies .. not to be confused with the other king of the north mentioned in other OT prophecies which joins with the Medes (Iran) and her allies that eventually rebel & fight against the false prophet (after even they too have all been marked / deceived btw), ushering in the beginnings of WWIII which gets cut short by Christ's 2nd coming lest no flesh be saved..

Israel get's attacked by her lovers remember .. her allies are the one's who doublecross her & not some Muslim confederation .. that confederation (not only Muslims btw) only attacks / rebels after the temple is building / rebuilt.  (they start preparing during the attack on Israel though, these things take time you see, something has greatly offended  one group & the warring / overthrowing of nations offends the other & together they draw their plans against Babylon the Great & her false prophet).

WHY would any Muslim nation get upset over the false prophet conquering Israel !! Think about it, this would be their dream come true ..  but what if "something" get's "accidently" destroyed by those armies in Israel ("accidents" in war are a common excuse)  .. something Israel alone dares not destroy but desperately wants removed .. the dome of the rock !! Destroy that, and this very thing both Israel AND the false prophet desires can come to pass .. the 3rd temple ..

THAT is the reason Israel enters into her agreement with death. (the false prophet indeed brings death & destruction but ONLY shows his true colours AFTER the whole world is marked .. got to "catch" them all first .. then it doesn't matter to hide anymore now does it because this whole "charade" boils down to one MAIN purpose and one OVERRIDING & Satanic focus / purpose ONLY .. MARK EVERY PERSON ON EARTH FIRST .. after that happens .. all bets are off .. who cares what people think NOW !!) hence the false prophet declaring he is God by that point .. he ONLY does that when he sits in that rebuilt temple & NOT before that ..

This is WHY the false prophet doublecrosses Israel .. he wants that temple for himself.

But what it really comes down to, which does not need speculating on (though not of the "blind speculating" sort), is this :  God is causing this to happen for to destroy all the worlds armies in one place .. Megiddo.

God stirs the other nations to rebel against the false prophet, think about it .. look at all the examples God has already supplied us with in the OT .. this process :

1> Embolden His intended target, in this case Israel, let them prosper in their wickedness, let them think "God does not see us" .. embolden them .. in that process their wickedness & confidence in themselves will manifest 100 fold

2> Bring against them an army / nation(s) to punish them (punish Israel) FIRST (by using Babylon the Great) .. Israel's very own lovers will do the backstabbing (as other OT examples support)

3> THEN Punish that nation which He used to conquer Israel with .. remembering always : God USES the wicked to do the wicked works .. and God will use the Medes (Iran) AND her allies (Russia, India, China, Turkey etc .. that's right, Turkey WILL join them as written) .. ALL the kingdoms of Ararat will ALSO join in against Babylon the Great's chief nations from whence the false prophet reigns  ..

4> THEN finally, ALL those wicked armies together will likewise be destroyed TOGETHER. (at the 2nd coming)

God intends to punish / destroy ALL armies together .. don't forget, this is happening AFTER every nation has already been deceived and marked with the mark of the beast .. ALL OF THEM together condemned.

Side note : This war (WWIII) that breaks out will be cut short by Christ .. it will not get to world wide nuclear attacks, but will mostly remain "conventional" .. mostly ..  and the way He stops this war from becoming MAD (mutually assured destruction) is by His appearing SIGN in the sky .. THIS event will stop the fighting and serve to UNITE all of THEM against this "new threat in the sky" and stop that war whereby they all put aside their differences & join together to face these "lights in the sky" .. by this point, mission accomplished !!

All the armies are now gathered together in one place & ripe for destruction by The Lord Himself.

See what you think ..

Regards.

Serving said in post 140:

Thirdly, yes that wicked man uses miracles and very effectively too, but he still needs to use his marvellous words to achieve his goal, and these marvellous words are really aimed at ONE GROUP (unbelievers will be a cake walk for this man) .. BUT ..  believers in Christ will need extra "attention" .. for to deceive them convincingly.

Good point.

Christians need to be aware that during the Antichrist's future, literal 3.5-year worldwide reign (Revelation 13:4-18), even though the world will consciously and openly worship Lucifer (the dragon, Satan) and the Antichrist (the individual-man aspect of the beast) (Revelation 13:4-8, Revelation 12:9), this won't require that the Antichrist's one-world religion will say that Jesus is evil, or will turn the world against Jesus. For almost the entire world reveres Jesus, at least as being a good man. The Antichrist could confirm this basic world belief, but simply (in his words) "clarify" that while Jesus is indeed a good man, he isn't the Christ or the Son of God (1 John 2:22). No doubt the Antichrist will also deny that Jesus died on the Cross for our sins, as this, just as believing that he is the Christ and the Son of God (John 20:31, John 3:36), is one of the core beliefs of the gospel by which people become saved (1 Corinthians 15:1-4).

So what the Antichrist could do is keep the idea of a good Jesus, but strip it of everything by which Jesus saves people from hell. And this wouldn't require that the Antichrist deny Jesus' 2nd coming. Indeed, the Antichrist and his False Prophet (Revelation 19:20) could even try to employ to their own ends the Biblical prophecy of Jesus' 2nd coming, as well as the Muslim prophecy which says that the miracle-working prophet Jesus will return bodily from heaven in the last days to bring the whole earth into the worship of the true God. For the False Prophet could claim that he is Jesus returned. And he could perform amazing miracles (Revelation 13:13) as purported proof of his claim (cf. John 3:2). This is one reason why it is important to know when and how the real Jesus' 2nd coming will happen (Matthew 24:29-31; 2 Thessalonians 2:1-8; 1 Thessalonians 4:14-17, Revelation 19:7 to 20:6, Zechariah 14:3-21).

Once the False Prophet by his amazing miracles has brought the world under his spell (Revelation 13:13-18, Revelation 19:20), including many Muslims and Christians who may not care much for scriptural dogma, but could go wild over his signs and wonders, he could begin to (in his words) "restore to the world the real message which was spoken by me (Jesus) at my first coming, and by the great prophet Mohammed, but which message became corrupted by power-hungry men when they copied and changed the early manuscripts of the Bible and the Koran". He could then gradually initiate the world into the Antichrist's Gnostic Luciferianism (1 John 4:3, Revelation 13:4-6), a religion which could have existed since ancient times in some "mystery" cults, and which still exists today in the highest degree of initiation of a worldwide secret society. The False Prophet could present his miraculously calling fire down from heaven (Revelation 13:13) as purported proof that Lucifer (the dragon, Satan) and the Antichrist are the true God (Revelation 13:4-8, Revelation 12:9), in an inversion of how back in Old Testament times, Elijah miraculously called fire down from heaven to prove that YHWH is the true God (1 Kings 18:37-39).

The person whom the Antichrist will revile is YHWH (Revelation 13:6, Daniel 11:36), whom many people mistakenly think of as being (in their words) "the God of only the Old Testament, that cruel and hateful God who commanded people to commit genocide and kill babies (1 Samuel 15:3), whereas Jesus came and preached love for everyone (Matthew 5:44)". The truth is that Jesus confirmed that the God of the Old Testament, YHWH (Deuteronomy 6:4-5, Leviticus 19:18), is the same as the God of the New Testament (Mark 12:29-31), and that the Old Testament is true (Matthew 5:17-18, Luke 24:44-48). Jesus died for our sins in fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy from YHWH (Isaiah 53; 1 Peter 2:24). And he rose from the dead in fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy from YHWH (e.g. Psalms 16:10, Acts 2:31). Jesus died to establish the New Covenant (Matthew 26:28), which YHWH had foretold in the Old Testament (Jeremiah 31:31-34). And Jesus died to bring about the defeat of Satan (Hebrews 2:14), which YHWH had foretold from even the first book of the Old Testament (Genesis 3:15).

Nonetheless, building on many people's misconceptions of YHWH as being (in their words) "the cruel God of the Old Testament", no doubt one of the Antichrist's chief blasphemies against YHWH (Revelation 13:6, Daniel 11:36) will be that YHWH is an evil god. This is one of the ancient blasphemies of Gnosticism, another being the antichrist lie that Christ isn't in the flesh (2 John 1:7). The world will be deceived into completely rejecting YHWH, and worshipping Satan and the Antichrist instead (Revelation 13:4-8, Revelation 12:9). Satan may be worshipped not as "Satan", which most everyone sees as a bad name (it means "Adversary"), but as "Lucifer" (Isaiah 14:12), which means "the morning star". The Antichrist could falsely say that it is YHWH who is the true "Satan", the true "Adversary" of mankind.

Because the Antichrist and his False Prophet (possibly masquerading as Jesus) will deny that Jesus is the Christ (1 John 2:22), and will deny that Christ is in the flesh (1 John 4:3), and because they will bring the unsaved world into the worship of Lucifer (the dragon, Satan) instead (Revelation 13:4, Revelation 12:9), they could falsely say that (the non-mortal flesh) Lucifer is the Christ, that the new name of Christ (Revelation 3:12c) is "Lucifer Christ". For just as "Lucifer" means "the morning star", so Christ is the morning star (Revelation 22:16b). Also, Christ identified himself with the serpent (John 3:14), and Lucifer is the serpent (Revelation 12:9). Also, Christ said "Ye are gods" (John 10:34), and it was the serpent who said "ye shall be as gods" (Genesis 3:5).

But the truth is that Lucifer fell from his office of morning star (Isaiah 14:12) and became Satan (cf. Luke 10:18). Jesus Christ has taken over the office of morning star (Revelation 22:16). And Jesus Christ identified himself with only the brass serpent on the pole in Numbers 21:8-9 (John 3:14), which typified Jesus Christ's crucifixion for our sins (John 19:16, Matthew 26:28). And in John 10:34, Jesus Christ (John 20:31) was quoting YHWH in Psalms 82:6-7, which shows that even though humans have knowledge of good and evil as gods do (Genesis 3:22), they will still die like humans (Psalms 82:7), contradicting the serpent's lie (Genesis 3:4). Nonetheless, the Antichrist could falsely say that Lucifer is the Christ and the true and beneficent God of mankind, and that the False Prophet is the miracle-working prophet Jesus (cf. John 3:2, Acts 3:22-24), returned to point the world to the true Christ/God. The Antichrist could falsely say he (the Antichrist) is the human/divine "Son" of Lucifer, who must be worshipped as God along with Lucifer (Revelation 13:4,8). This would be similar to how Biblical Christians rightly worship the human/divine Jesus Christ (John 1:1,14) as YHWH God (the Son) along with YHWH God the Father (John 20:28, Hebrews 1:8).

Near the end of the future tribulation of Revelation chapters 6 to 18 and Matthew 24, unclean spirits like frogs will come out of the mouths of Lucifer, the Antichrist, and the False Prophet (Revelation 16:13). And these unclean spirits like frogs will go forth and perform amazing miracles to convince the world's armies to gather together at Armageddon (Har Megiddo: Mount Megiddo in northern Israel) (Revelation 16:16) in an attempt to fight and defeat YHWH himself (Revelation 16:14, Revelation 19:19). After gathering together at Armageddon, the armies will travel south and pillage Jerusalem, right before the real Jesus (who is YHWH: John 10:30) returns from heaven and defeats them completely (Zechariah 14:2-21, Revelation 19:20 to 20:3).

Serving said in post 141 (a post that was later lost):

One other point I'd like to add though .. the coming great war is not to be confused with Armageddon .. the war is a world war .. BUT .. all the world's armies face off  in the middle east domain itself, this is the fourth part of the world where the false prophet eventually "rules over" WITH death & destruction ..

Note that the Antichrist may not appear on the world stage until after the horrible, future, tribulation-starting war of Revelation 6:4-8 and Daniel 11:15-17 has resulted in the total defeat and occupation of Israel, and Egypt, and the death of 1/4 of the world. It could be this war which will help open the way for the Antichrist to arise on the world stage as a great man of peace and antitypically fulfill the "vile" person of Daniel 11:21-45.

One way this war could happen is the U.S. could undertake a massive buildup of the Iraqi Army, initially to prevent the Islamic State militant group (also known as ISIS, or ISIL) from taking over Iraq, and Syria, and all the rest of the Middle East, and eventually so that the Iraqi Army can serve as a proxy army, for the U.S. and Israel, for an all-out ground invasion of Iran, in order to end Iran's nuclear weapons program and extremist regime. As part of the buildup of the Iraqi Army, the U.S. could reinstall much of the former Iraqi Baathist military hierarchy (i.e. that which existed under Baathist Saddam Hussein), to run the present Iraqi Army more efficiently and ruthlessly.

And if the current, Shiite-dominated government of Iraq balks at any return of a Baathist-dominated military (which cruelly suppressed the Iraqi Shiites under Saddam Hussein's rule), or balks at any invasion of fellow-Shiite Iran, this could lead the CIA, MI6, and the Mossad to bring about a Baathist coup d'etat in Iraq. For they could see a well-run, Baathist Iraqi Army and government as the only way to keep ISIS/ISIL under control, and the only way to eventually invade and defeat Iran, which invasion the Iraqi Baathists could agree to perform, for they see meddling, non-Arab Iran as a great enemy of Arab autonomy.

To help get the Iraqi masses and the world behind the idea of an all-out Iraqi invasion of Iran, "false flag" operations could be managed by the CIA, MI6, and the Mossad by which it will be made to seem that (non-Arab, Persian) Iran is attacking the Iraqi Sunni Arabs and their little children terroristically with "dirty bombs" made from Iranian-enriched uranium, so that the Iraqi Arab masses will become enraged and begin to call for all-out retaliation against (what they could call) "the vile Persians". And the world could see an Iraqi invasion of Iran as being completely justified by self-defense.

But then, right when Iraq is all ready to invade Iran, the ultra-Orthodox Jews in Israel (who by that time could be led by a great miracle-working false Messiah: cf. Matthew 24:24) could completely destroy the Muslim Dome of the Rock and the Al Aqsa Mosque (the 3rd-holiest sites in Islam) on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, to clear the site for the building of a 3rd Jewish temple (Revelation 11:1-2, Matthew 24:15, Daniel 11:31,36; 2 Thessalonians 2:4). This could so enrage Muslims worldwide, including the (Muslim) Iraqi Army, that the Iraqi Baathist Generals could see it as a perfect excuse to abandon the plan to invade huge Iran, and instead (pretending that they are doing so in the name of Islam) turn and send their vast army against the little territory of Israel, completely defeating and occupying it (Daniel 11:15-17; in verse 17, the original Hebrew word translated as "daughter" is "bath").

But this wouldn't be the ultimate reason for the Baathist attack, which could continue on south to also defeat and occupy Egypt (Daniel 11:15). For Egypt is ruled by the U.S.-supported Egyptian Army, which the Baathists could see as being a puppet of the U.S., just as they could see Israel as being a colony of the U.S. Baathism's ultimate aim is to unite all Arab lands from Oman to Morocco into one massive, powerful United Arab States free of all foreign hegemony.

The all-out Iraqi attack on Israel could be joined by the entire (Baathist) Syrian Army (with all of its missiles, many still secretly tipped with nerve agents), as well as by all of Iran's long-range missiles and all of Hezbollah's and Hamas' missiles and guerrillas. Israel could find itself suddenly attacked from 3 directions at the same time, with tens of thousands of missiles raining down on its cities and military bases, and tens of thousands of Iraqi tanks (meant to defeat and occupy huge Iran) pouring across its borders. As Israel starts to see its little sliver of land completely overrun, and sees that its total defeat and occupation is imminent and assured, in retaliation it could drop nuclear bombs on Baghdad, Damascus (Isaiah 17:1), Tehran, and other major cities of Iraq, Syria, and Iran.

There could be so many nuclear explosions sending so much radioactive dust and ash so high into the atmosphere that it could be blown eastward and fall on hugely-populated South Asia, ruining so many crop fields and immune systems there with radiation that 1/4 of the world's population could end up dying from the war and its aftermath of famines and epidemics. This could fulfill the horrible war which will begin the future tribulation of Revelation chapters 6 to 18 and Matthew 24, which war will, with its aftermath of famines and epidemics, end up killing 1/4 of the world (Revelation 6:4-8). The "great sword" of this war (Revelation 6:4) could be Israel's nuclear weapons. This war could be blamed not only on the religious fundamentalism of Islam and Judaism, but also on religious fundamentalism in general, and so could lead to a worldwide crusade against all forms of religious fundamentalism, including Christian fundamentalism, i.e. the (correct) idea that the Bible is wholly true (2 Timothy 3:16, Matthew 4:4) and that all other religions are cursed (Galatians 1:8-9, John 14:6, John 3:36, Acts 4:12).

After an Iraqi Baathist General who could lead the defeat and occupation of Israel and Egypt mysteriously disappears from the scene (Daniel 11:19), the Antichrist, who could be an Arab, could arise peacefully out of Lebanon (from the modern city of Tyre: Ezekiel 28:2; cf. 2 Thessalonians 2:4), and he could take up the mantle of Baathism and vow to (in his words) "complete the great work of Arab liberation and unification". The first thing the Antichrist could do once he is given control (Daniel 11:21) of a Baathist federation of Iraq, Syria, Egypt, and a "United Palestine" (i.e. a defeated and occupied Israel), is to perform a small and localized attack against an army of ultra-Orthodox Jews holed up in the walled Old City of Jerusalem and led by an ultra-Orthodox Jewish false Messiah (Daniel 9:26a, Daniel 11:22).

These ultra-Orthodox Jews could have managed to hold off the first Baathist attack even as it overran the rest of Israel, because the walled Old City of Jerusalem is considered holy to the Muslims, and so it is not to be bombarded or destroyed. The Antichrist could manage in some way to take the Old City without doing it much harm (such as by incapacitating its Jewish defenders with huge clouds of tear gas while tens of thousands of Arab soldiers wearing gas masks take control of the city by climbing over its walls on thousands of tall ladders).

But then, instead of imprisoning or executing all the ultra-Orthodox Jews and their false Messiah, the Antichrist will do an amazing thing. He will "cut" a peace treaty with them and their false Messiah (Daniel 9:26a, Daniel 11:23), permitting them to keep a 3rd Jewish temple (Revelation 11:1) which they will have built on the Temple Mount in the Old City of Jerusalem, and to keep control of the Old City, for at least 7 more years (Daniel 9:27a), so long as they give up the outer court of the temple (Revelation 11:2a) to the Muslims so that the Muslims can rebuild the Al Aqsa Mosque on the southern end of the Temple Mount and resume worship there. By this peace treaty, the Antichrist could present himself to the world as (in his words): "A reasonable man, a man of peace. I am no Hitler. I do not desire a second Holocaust. I am willing to give the religious Jews in the Old City seven years to show that they are willing to live peacefully with others, that they are different than the Zionist Jews who have just destroyed the world with their nuclear weapons".

And if the Antichrist gets flak from his fellow Baathists for letting the ultra-Orthodox Jews keep the Old City of Jerusalem, he could explain to them privately that (in his words) "It is all a temporary ruse, meant to keep world opinion off guard while we consolidate our position". The Baathists could consolidate their position by becoming so well dug-in, and so well-equipped and -advised militarily by the Russians (in the name of "Arab self-determination"), that a U.S. counter-attack to "restore" (i.e. to take back) Israel and Egypt could fail, and leave the Baathists in control, and in a position to extend their power over all the rest of the Arab nations. For if the Baathists defeat and occupy Israel, they will be hailed by the Arab masses across the Arab world as magnificent heroes, so that the Baathists could have no problem persuading the Arab masses to support them. And the Baathists could justify their defeat of the Egyptian military regime, and then their subsequent defeat of other regimes such as in Jordan, by railing against them as being (what they could call):

"These vile cronies of the Americans. These cronies pretended to be for the Arab people while in fact they were taking American bribes in the billions, completely selling out our Palestinian brothers to the endless cruelties of the Zionist occupation, and keeping you, the great majority of the Arab people, in poverty. These cronies, like the Zionists themselves, were the American bulwarks against our glorious Arab unification and return to world power. Join now with us, the Baathists, that we might bring about the long-awaited Arab Renaissance, the long-awaited Arab Resurrection [the Arab word 'Baath' can mean 'Renaissance' and 'Resurrection'], that we Arabs might all rise up together and unite, from Oman to Morocco, into one great United Arab States, one great Arab Empire, shaking off completely all the shackles of the West, placed upon us so long ago, and return to our former glory as we had during the Middle Ages, when we were free and far superior to the West".

The Baathists could also rail against the kings and sheikhs of the Arab Gulf States for (in their words) "Hoarding the huge oil wealth given by Allah to all the Arabs, and keeping the Arab masses in poverty and subjugation to Western interests". The Baathists are socialist, and so could call for the distribution of the Arab oil wealth to the Arab masses (Daniel 11:24). In this way, and by their defeat and occupation of Israel, the Baathists could easily turn the masses to their side in every Arab nation.

During the first few years of the 7-year peace treaty referred to earlier, the Antichrist could employ Baathism as the means by which he will gradually and peacefully put together a United Arab States, or Arab Union, stretching from Oman to Morocco. Once he has accomplished this, he could then begin to downplay Baathism and start speaking of "World peace and the unity of mankind". He could convince an oil-thirsty European Union to let the oil-rich Arab Union join it, thereby forming a massive Mediterranean Union, which he could manage to peacefully gain control of and use as his base of power to eventually exert his hegemony over the entire earth (Revelation 13:7b).

Then, only some 3.5 years after making the peace treaty, the Antichrist will break it, attack the 3rd Jewish temple in Jerusalem, stop the daily Mosaic animal sacrifices offered in front of it, and sit (at least one time) in the temple and proclaim himself God (Daniel 11:31,36, Matthew 24:15; 2 Thessalonians 2:4). He will then rule the whole earth by the power of Lucifer (Satan, the dragon: Revelation 12:9) for 3.5 literal years (Revelation 13:4-18, Daniel 7:25, Daniel 12:7, Revelation 12:14), or 1,260 literal days (Revelation 12:6).

The return of Jesus Christ from heaven (Matthew 24:30, Revelation 19:11-21; 1 Thessalonians 4:16) may not occur immediately after the 1,260 days of the Antichrist's worldwide reign, but could occur 75 days later, on the 1,335th day after the Antichrist and his followers set up the abomination of desolation (possibly a standing, android image of the Antichrist) in the holy place (the inner sanctum) of the 3rd Jewish temple (Daniel 12:11-12, Daniel 11:31, Matthew 24:15). The 75 days could be taken up by the vials of God's wrath which will be poured out on the Antichrist's worshippers (Revelation 16).

When Jesus returns, he will completely defeat the Antichrist (the individual-man aspect of the beast) (Revelation 19:20; 2 Thessalonians 2:8-9), and he will have Satan bound in the bottomless pit (Revelation 20:1-3). Then the returned Jesus and the physically resurrected church (including those in the church who will have been beheaded by the Antichrist) will reign physically on the earth for 1,000 years (Revelation 20:4-6, Revelation 5:10, Revelation 2:26-29, Psalms 66:3-4, Psalms 72:8-11, Zechariah 14:8-21).

Diaste,

Seeing that I have suffered an unprovoked & non specified personal attack at your hands lately, let me defend myself starting here .. and let us see who's really not "seeing the forest past the tree" shall we.

I think a more important point that we are missing is how the antichrist comes to power. It's not like the typical way leaders come to power. It's going to be based on supernatural power the likes of which we have never witnessed.

Besides me already acknowledging the MIRACLES .. there is also this you are obviously neglecting :

Daniel 7:8 I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.

Which was related to this :

We have to stop looking toward the political arena for this man to arise

Those horns are LEADERS .. this man comes up amongst them .. this means he is one of them too, that is, amongst that same PROFESSION .. comprendo?

Nevertheless, God tells us over & over, "marvellous words", "great words" etc .. it is obvious that these words that wicked one speaks are the MOST important focus, obviously you're not as familiar with this subject as you should be, come, look past your little tree and behold the real forest :

Daniel 7:8 I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.

Daniel 7:11 I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake: I beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame.

Daniel 7:20 And of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other which came up, and before whom three fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look was more stout than his fellows.

Daniel 7:25 And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.

Daniel 11:36 And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done.

It seems scripture disagrees with you.

It's not political acumen,

So you think ..

Acumen .. keen insight; shrewdness : remarkable acumen in business matters.

keen insight (even of that horn that had eyes) eyes represent the spiritual .. this man has a very keen Satanically sourced spiritual insight (in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man) materially focussed at that.

shrewdness Daniel 7:24 And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings

business matters Daniel 8:25 And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.

LEADERS have POLICIES .. so he is political too.

Again, you are way off the mark and conflict with the scriptures themselves.

Do not fall victim to that "wind that blows through trees that wilted with the seasons children" .. concentrate on the Lord instead.

military power,

Wrong again ..

Daniel 8:12 And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered.

Revelation 19

19 And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.

20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

Daniel 11:38 But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things.

Daniel 8:24 And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people.

 great wealth

Wrong again ..

Daniel 11:38 But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things.

superior intelligence or brilliant problem solving ability that vaults this man to power. His power and position comes through a supernatural event effected by a powerful supernatural being with an obsessive need to usurp, subjugate and destroy the earth.

ONLY correct after taking into account the above corrections to your errors.

The man, the antichrist, will be the tool by which one of the most powerful spiritual beings attempts to carry out this evil plan, millennia in the making.

Wrong again .. this is GODS PLAN .. as for your musing : "attempts" .. no sorry, wrong again, God WILL have this happen without any doubt whatsoever.

Satan is God's axe .. go learn what this means so you may better understand the real plan and perhaps you will begin to glimpse the forest in all her splendour.

A total lack of understanding God's metaphors here.

it was "one of the beasts"  7 heads that was wounded .. the HEADS are the EMPIRES, the HORNS are the KINGS .. your private interpretation is way off.

Your mainstream speculation is as erroneous as the secularly taught ones who proposed it in the first place.

Starting to see the other trees yet?

The world also thinks he is so powerful that no one can fight against him and prevail.

Wrong again .. the beast being mentioned is the beast empire .. "who can wage war" against that beast ..  you are making beginners mistakes.

This is likely due to the idea that he can't be killed and the presence of the dragon on earth. Scripture records the world worships the dragon and the beast at the same time.

It's evident the world can see the dragon has empowered the beast, as the scripture records.

Er .. what?

How on earth did you come up with that error?

Don't you realise that by simply worshipping the false prophet & the beast, then automatically they worship Satan too .. where does it say in the scriptures that the world can see that the Dragon himself has empowered this beast?

That is ludicrous on so many levels you obviously haven't even entertained as of yet, that I won't even bother elaborating.

In conclusion, your private interpretation is way off and needs much work on your behalf to straighten out all the errors.

Only when you personally understand the whole subject for yourself, as I do, will you see where you have gone terribly wrong, and only then can you attempt to correct the ones who do understand ..

It is obvious, by the many errors, that there is a great deal of catching up to do yet.

The man of sin is the human little horn of Daniel's visions [Daniel 7:7-25; 8:9-25; 9:26-27 [the other prince that shall come]; 11:36-45: 12:7; Joel 2:20; Micah 5:5-6]

This one will be a king of the northern Middle East who will arise in northwestern Mesopotamia [Syria/Iraq today]

And he will consolidate the current factions of the Middle Eastern Muslims into his kingdom [Daniel 2:40-43] ... the kingdom of iron and clay with 10 other kings in the region
