The truth is that nobody can dogmatically say for sure.  Surely God could have created the egg, hatched it then brought the chicken to full maturity in a matter of seconds, minutes or whatever time frame he chose.  Or he could have just commanded the water and/or ground to produce fully developed birds.  We cannot know for sure by scripture alone and I am very hesitant to believe one who says his answer is inspired.

I had a vision once of the creation of man.  He sprouted from the ground as does a tree and grew into a recognizable form then a rush of wind came and he was filled with the breathe of life and his feet pulled free from the ground and he walked freely.  Reality?  I cannot know.  Plausible?  Absolutely.

I seek not to be dogmatic about those things I cannot know outside of inspiration combined with the word of God for I can and have been deceived before.

Peace.

I believe that God, being the utmost in intelligence, would simply take the most efficient route and place mature animals and humans on earth to multiply.  But whether I'm wrong, or you are, it's not an issue that will keep us out of Heaven so everyone can have an opinion and it's okay.

Afterthought:  God wouldn't create the egg first because, in his infinite wisdom, He would know there would be no chicken to sit on it  until it hatched.  That would be a very bad way to start a chicken population.

after after thought:  We hatch eggs all the time without chickens sitting on them it only requires the right conditions therfore God could have just produced the right conditions without the need for anything to sit on it. :) but still you could be right.
