That is a very good point there Ezra –

`The Tabernacle and Temple were constructed on the basis of a heavenly pattern, all of which pointed to Christ

. Everything was according to that pattern, which was the

eternal reality

.`
Now God`s word says –

`And the city is laid out as a square, & its length is as great as its breadth. And he measured the city with the reed: 12 thousand furlongs. Its length, breadth, & height are equal.` (Rev. 21: 16)

God has used that word `furlongs` specifically.

Furlong – Gk. `stadion, a certain measure of distance, from the base of Gk. `stao` to appoint, a covenant, to establish.

Thus we understand that this city is what was covenanted to Abraham & others.

`But now they (OT people) desire a better, that is a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.` (Heb. 11: 16)

Remember what God covenanted to Abraham –

`In blessing I will bless you, & in multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heavens & as the sand which is on the sea-shore,…..`  (Gen. 22: 17)

His descendants would be uncountable. Yet God also gave specific places & positions.

The sand of the sea-shore – a predominant postion of rulership over the nations of the earth.

The stars of the heavens – a prominent(not predominant) position in the heavens. This is the promised city, the New Jerusalem that will be the rulership in that realm over the earth.

God always keeps His promises & that through the Lord Jesus Christ as we well know.

Sorry, but you’re putting all your eggs in that one basket, and there’s just NO PROOF

in the Scriptures that the New Jerusalem is following a “pattern” of the Tabernacle and the Temple!
Some folks like to be contrary simply for the sake of being contrary.  So look up the word "pattern" in Strong's Exhaustive Concordance (KJV).  And look beyond the surface for spiritual realities.

Marilyn,

This pre-dates Abraham, and goes all the way back to Abel, so we need to be very clear that the New Jerusalem is for ALL THE SAINTS SINCE ABEL.  Please note (Heb 12:22-24):

22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,

23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,

24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.

Hi Ezra,

Glad you pointed out that very important detail. And yes Abel was the first to obtain a witness by God that he was righteous.

`By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; & through it he being dead still speaks.` (Heb. 11: 4)

`By faith Enoch.....by faith Noah,....by faith Abraham...(& many many more) These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, they were assured of them, embraced them, & confessed that they were strangers & pilgrims on the earth......But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.` (Heb. 11: 13 - 16)

Yes we need to be clear, Ezra, as you said, however the New Jerusalem is for only those who were made righteous (before Abraham) & then those who looked for the city whose builder & maker is God. It was Abraham who was given the further revelation of the heavenly city, yet he knew that some of his descendants would also rule on the earth over the nations. This purpose of God was known in the OT, however the Body of Christ is another purpose with another calling to rule.

Hi Ezra,

Always interesting to talk to you as you notice important details. So let`s have a closer look.

THE JUST (RIGHTEOUS) MEN.

`..you have come to the General assembly….to the spirits of just men made perfect. ` (Heb.12: 23)

These we know are Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, etc. They were made righteous because they believed God & worked acts of righteousness.

`By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous,…`

`By faith Enoch ….had this testimony that he pleased God….`

`By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called out….`

`…who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness,…..(Heb. 11: 4,5,8 & 33)

THE BODY OF CHRIST.

`…you have come to the General Assembly & Ekklesia (Body of Christ)of the first-born who are registered in heaven…` (Heb. 12: 23)

When Jesus ascended to the right hand of His Father, He sent the Holy Spirit to impart His righteousness within the believers.

`But of Him you are IN CHRIST JESUS, who became for us wisdom from God AND RIGHTEOUSNESS & SANCTIFICATION & REDEMPTION…` (1 Cor. 1: 30)

This impartation of Christ`s righteousness within the believer was not possible before His ascension. Thus OT saints were accounted righteous through faith in what God promised them. To have Christ`s righteous life within enables the Body of Christ to fulfills its high calling – kingpriests in the third heaven.

Shalom, bopeep1909.

Look, it’s really simple: A “square” is TWO-DIMENSIONAL, not three. So, when the Scriptures say that the city “lieth foursquare,” it is simply saying that it sits on a two-dimensional square surface. It is NOT saying that it is a cube! Let’s just start with that for now.

More myths and legends from Retrobyter.  Please note carefully (Rev 21:16):

And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.

So what do we see from this description:

1. It is a city

2. The city is a square

3. Each side is 1,500 miles (12,000 furlongs)

4. The city has LENGTH, BREADTH, AND HEIGHT (so it is three dimensional)

5. When we put this all together we have A CUBIC CITY (some claim it is pyramidal but pyramids are pagan structures).

Yes! Dimensions are spelled out here; they are absolute and cannot be spiritualized.

Hi MorningGlory,

Where do you get the `absolute & cannot be spiritualised` from?

Ezra

Now put your square on a round object.  It will not fit.  The gates/entrance then would need to be on the bottom, not the sides.

If one embeds the cube into the earth (round object), then some of the gates are lost.

Who says that the cube of the New Jerusalem will be embedded on the earth? The New Jerusalem will hover over the earth, whereas the earth will be renewed altogether. The "heavenly city" always remains a heavenly city, and replaces the sun for light (Rev 21:23,24). There is much that has not been revealed regarding the communication between the New Jerusalem and the New Earth, but the one does not replace or displace the other.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
