Honest question.  Some say that it's the Catholic Church, some say it's Islam.  It could be an entirely different entity.  What do people think?

I'm not sure but Islam has a much stronger case. After all, Allah is the direct manifestation of Baal.

If you mean *Mystery Babylon* then it will include both the Catholic Church and Islam, as well as every other religion in the world. It will be false religion which includes idolatry, and even the Kaaba of Islam was a centre of idolatry.

Revelation 17:5   And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

The daughters would be her children.  She produces children spiritually.

Babylon is of the world.  Trade and commerce, goods, delicacies, luxeries, nice things, technology,..everything that this world can provide in the material.  These are the things the world lusts after and not the spiritual things of God.  The harlot stands for the spiritual side of Babylon.  Her teachings have produced daughters, ie religions or beliefs and there are many to chose from.  Whatever is from her is not from God.  She is making the nations drunk and sleepy. God wants the God fearing to come out of Babylon spiritually, and to not be a part of it, but separate from what the world lusts after.

No, I don't believe they are the same.  Psalm 137:8 speaks of the daughter of Babylon in the context of the Babylonian captivity of the Jews, and how she will be destroyed. So it could be a metaphor for physical and geographical Babylon, the city of Babylon mentioned in Revelation. The city and the whore Mystery Babylon are shown as two distinct entities which receive their separate judgements from God.

Many believe that New York is the Babylon referred to in Revelation, but there's a good possibility that Babylon in Iraq will become the Babylon of Revelation.  And no, Babylon will not be one individual at all.  It will be on one hand a political and commercial system, and on the other hand a religious and idolatrous system, both under the control of the Antichrist.

It's a mystery to the world who don't care for reading the Word of the Lord, but to us who do have ears, we are revealed who Babylon is when God speaks of her, and that the desires of what this world can provide has a master.  It cannot be personified, because it includes the whole world who has been feeding on what the Woman can give, which this system of hers is going to be destroyed when Christ returns, the way the world operates.

Hi Zion, long time no see,

While I'm not a great fan of some Catholic doctrine (Mary, pergutory, transubstantiation, and others) I don't see them as Mystery anything. Now I will say this- anything related to Islam is a much greater concern and definitely an end time player.
