I can't work out if smoking cigarettes is sinful, can someone help me get around the perpetuation of mans wacky inventions.

It's not sinful but as is said in this forum, Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit.  It is very harmful to your health and I know you know that.  We are cast our cares on God because He cares for you.  If your a believer, a born again Christian than ask yourself if smoking is harmful to your testimony?  Is staying healthy and giving God the glory worth trading for smoking?  This is a personal decision and it is between you and God.

Blessings

I quit smoking 48 years ago after smoking for 3 years, but today I have COPD.  The doctors attribute it directly to smoking.  It does great damage to the lungs that apparently is irreversible.  My son works in monitoring radiation.  He told me to day that you inhale radiation when your smoke--greater than background radiation.  When I was taking anatomy and physiology I was told by a geneticist that the carbon monoxide that is inhaled kills the phagocytic cells in your larynx and lung membrane so that they are unable to kill foreign cells.   So much more has been discovered since then.  Were you to see the autopsy of the lungs of a smoker they would be black.  This is what convinced our son to quit.

To my knowledge there is nothing in the Bible that pertains directly to smoking.  But common sense should tell you that you need to quit.  Use whatever methods you need to do it, but remember that nicotine patches etc when used together with cigarettes can and do cause heart attacks from too much nicotine.  This is also one of the problems of unregulated e cigarettes.  You don't know how much you are getting.  We quit cold turkey when we were told the smoke was endangering the health of my unborn baby.

Ask God to give you both the will and the ability to do His good pleasure.

Blessings,

Willa

One thing I can say about a smoker is that they do not need a lecture. It will make them smoke that much more.If a person has been successful in quitting that is great. We all need to take a look at ourselves before pointing a finger at the other guy.

Smoking is a reason for emphysema,COPD and other lung diseases but so are other factors such as an occupational hazards, second hand smoke,a lot of air pollution.I would say about 50% of those who get lung cancer have never smoked before in their life. There are those who smoked 20 or 30 years ago and quit and their lungs are still vulnerable to a lung disease. I have never known a person to have smoked a cigarette and then get into a car and wipe out a whole family in another car such as those who are partaking in drugs and alcohol.

My daughter keeps moving my cigarettes so I have to keep finding them, the last place she put them was in the freezer. She'll always give me a clue to where the cigarettes are and a map of the house so I won't get lost.

So I always get plenty of exercise.

You have a great sense of humor.

I don't think that it's just the cigarettes that get to you. That's too simple.

I'm pretty sure that you are craving to be comforted on other levels, not just the feeling that nicotine gives you.

If I am a sinner, then I know that God has been working closely with you ever since you were born, but we don't really believe that our whole life is of interest to Him, including how we face daily challenges. That's just typical of all sinners.

He remembers all the things that we have experienced and felt, and while we forget, He does not forget what has made us who we are.

Of course we have been dreadful, but we haven't had it easy either, besides we are samples of what Christ came to save.

As someone said before, talk to Him, tell Him what's on your mind, be totally honest, and tell Him that you are sorry for not recognizing His love for you, and that He is now welcome in your life, especially for the sake of your loved ones.

And if we feel under any pressures, (because we will - seeing that Jesus makes us face some of our defects and troubles within) tell Him the truth, and don't forget to thank Him for what good He does to us, that we are completely unaware of.

Your daughter loves you.She wants you to live a long time and not get an illness related to smoking. But then again you could go out in your car or walk across the street and it would be over. Our lives are in God's hands. He knows us better than we know ourselves.Pray to God to give you the strength to cut down or quit.I would be the last one to point a finger because I am a smoker myself.

Helping oneself is a plus.

That's OK anger is not sin be ye angry but sin not. It's the result of that anger. Do you continue to smoke out of emotion(frustration) or do you trust in the Lord and focus that anger to bring your body to subjection. This can only be done with daily prayer and meditation in God's word

If you mean trust as in Faith, then yes I do. I think I smoke because of something that happened with some children when I was a teenager.

That is sort of funny...

I smoked many years back and know how you feel...

God will set you free if you trust Him!

Luke 4:18

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed

She's very funny, when I get sick (Like food poisoning) she walks around in circles in the lounge room. Then she come's into my room as says "Better or Worse." And if I say worse she goes back out and keeps walking in circles.

People who have a lot of anxiety often turn to cigarettes.Cigarettes is the only drug that relieves depression and anxiety. It is extremely difficult to overcome. It is not a bad habit it is an addiction.I have known many who have stopped smoking for 20,25 and 30 years but have started again often due to a devastating incident in their life.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
