Just like the scribes and pharisees who searched the Scripture because they too thought there is life in the SCRIPTURE, BUT THEY DIDN'T FIND IT !!!! Jesus came to them IN PERSON, and they, who read the Scripture daily, REJECTED HIM. and many more today do the same exact thing, as Jesus said they would. It is more of a conjunctive effort by examining the evidence available... we do not clean ourselves of the debris but we begin to recognize it's need to be gone! After all to have the condition of hope within all people in various forms and then to form a truth reality that there is no hope seems to me hypocritical at best ... Don't forget what God's Word says to you in Matthew 7 : first get the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye. The conversation with Nicodemus 'You must be born again' sets up the reality that within the old now is new... The remaining life has choice to increase the new or remain in the old.
