The coffee comparison is just nonsense.  Coffee doesn't put you in an altered state of consciousness.  So I can judge MJ above coffee as being far more dangerous.

and BTW, getting "buzzed" is not moderation.

Must be a coffee drinker...

A beer every night? Only one beer? Why do you need that one beer? That is good that you only limit your alcohol to only one beer. I would not even recommend drinking on an everyday basis. Even one beer.

I don't need the beer, I drink the beer because I enjoy it.  I like to try new and different varieties, stouts, porters, IPA, etc.   I drink about a 6 pack every 8-9 days or so.  I always by the "make your own 6 pack" so I can choose different varieties.

Then please do tell us WHY they smoke it?

To get the same basic relaxation effect I get from drinking a beer after dinner.   Despite the Cheech and Chong stereotypes, not everyone that smokes marijuana is doing a bag, or even a joint a night.

I used to enjoy a Hefeweizen occasionally with my pizza. With a little bit of lemon in it. :)

Moderation is keeping ourselves from something not giving ourselves over to it.

Keeping ourselves from something is called abstinence. Moderation is using something, but not to excess. The Bible teaches that there is a place for both, depending upon individual circumstances. I believe what the Bible teaches.

People's biases are certainly evident in this topic. How willing, even eager, Christians are to judge one another! Nothing has changed since biblical times, when the Pharisees condemned people for not washing their hands before eating.

So does water, but water isn't being refined into high-potency forms that can cause brain damage.

I do not use mj myself (don't even so much as smoke ciggys) but there is no evidence that mj causes brain damage.

Sure, mj can be tampered with but if treated properly (and not smoked - burning plant matter of any kind can still cause lung damage) it has only benefits no drawbacks

Since the sale of medical pot became legal here a couple of years ago, a nearby town started selling it.  DUIs skyrocketed within a 30 mile radius of that town, as well as did accidents related to intoxication.

And if alcohol suddenly became legal today the same adjustment period would take place.
