mp3speaker.pngCharismatic movement

Question: "What is the Charismatic movement?"

Answer:
The Charismatic movement is an interdenominational Christian renewal movement and is one of the most popular and fastest-growing forces within the Christian world today. The movement traces its roots to 1906, at the Azusa Street mission in Los Angeles, California, a Methodist-sponsored revival. It was there that people claimed to have been “baptized by the Holy Spirit” in the manner recorded in Acts chapter 2 during the celebration of Pentecost. People speaking in tongues and miracles of healing roused people to a spiritual frenzy. The people who attended those meetings spread their enthusiasm throughout the United States, and the Pentecostal/Charismatic movement began.

By the early 1970s, the movement had spread to Europe, and during the 1980s the movement expanded, with a number of new denominations evolving from it. It is not unusual to see its influence in many other denominations such as Baptists, Episcopalians, and Lutherans, as well as non-denominational churches.

The movement takes its name from the Greek words charis, which is the English transliteration of the Greek word for “grace,” and mata, which is the Greek word meaning “gifts.” Charismata, then, means “grace gifts.” It emphasizes the manifestations of the gifts of the Holy Spirit as a sign of the presence of the Holy Spirit. These gifts are also known as the biblical “charisms,” or spiritual gifts which supposedly give an individual influence or authority over large numbers of people. The prominent gifts among these “charisms” are speaking in tongues and prophesying. Charismatics hold that the manifestations of the Holy Spirit given to those in the first-century church may still be experienced and practiced today.

The Charismatic movement is most known for its acceptance of speaking in tongues (also known as glossolalia), divine healing, and prophecies as evidence of the Holy Spirit. Most meetings are for praying and spirited singing, dancing, shouting “in the spirit,” and raising hands and arms in prayer. Also, anointing the sick with oil is often part of the worship service. These are the primary reasons for the movement’s growth and popularity. While growth and popularity are certainly desirable, they cannot be used as a test for truth.

The question remains: is the Charismatic movement scriptural? We can best answer that question this way: we know that since the creation of mankind Satan’s insidious master plan has been simply to put a veil between God’s children and God’s inerrant Word. It began in the Garden of Eden when the serpent asked Eve, “Did God really say . . .?” (Genesis 3:1), thereby raising doubt as to the authority and authenticity of what God had said. Ever since that day, he continues to attack the inerrancy and sufficiency of the Bible. Without question, we know that Satan has stepped up the pace of this strategy (1 Peter 5:8).

Today, we are witnessing a growing menace of demonic activity in the realm of the miraculous. Where Satan does not succeed in taking the Bible from us, he works hard at taking us from the Bible. He does this simply by getting Christians to focus their attention on the claims of men and women to some supernatural experience. As a result, those who seek after the experiences of others have neither time nor interest in searching the Scriptures for God’s truth.

There is no denying that God performs miracles. Some of what occurs in the Charismatic movement very well may be a true work of the Holy Spirit. However, the core truth is this: the Body of Christ does not need new apostles, nor new faith healers, nor self-styled miracle workers. What the Church needs is to

https://www.gotquestions.org/Charismatic-movement.html

Having spent many years as part of the Pentecostal movement, and witnessing first hand all the extremes and falsehoods associated with it, I can fully appreciate the above, and thankful that there is such a balanced perspective. I agree that even in false settings, God can still impress true seekers of truth with direction and discernment. The reference in Revelation 13:13 I believe could very well be a false pentecost. The true latter rain will be comprised of miracles and spiritual gifts, yes,  but will not be known or identified by them. Rather, the true latter rain, the final outpouring of the Holy Spirit will be identified and recognized by the power of God in using simple humble men and women in lay evangelism...not massive grand crusades where everyone is emotionally stirred, no, but one-on-one preaching that convicts mightily of sin, righteousness, and judgement; a gospel that the church in general rejects; a message that thousands accept with love and fervor, but fall foul of the church leaders in doing so because it doesn't have their official "stamp of approval"; and those preaching this message will be considered 'heretics', classed as 'antichrists', called servants of the devil, and along with those listening and accepting the message,be persecuted and turned away from most churches. The churches that accept such, will eventually be driven underground, or chased into the wilderness. The fact that the modern charismatic movement is so popular, and receives so much attention and praise, is not characteristic of a movement walking in truth.

If you want to come closer to identifying a message that has truth, find a church that is generally ridiculed and considered heretic and its members abused and unaccepted by the majority, yet teaches the Bible as the only source of doctrine, but whose teachings do not find favor with the church i general, because it is too painful to part with sin and worldly pleasures.

Okay, so everyone is wrong and everyone is going to hell.

Now look in the mirror and you'll see that you're wrong too and you're going to hell too.

What you are all doing is making Christianity sound like a fake religion where everyone lies to each other about what the truth is.

I suggest you all go back to square one and take a good look at yourselves.

Because a lot of you here don't sound like I'd ever want to worship with you.

Now that's wrong, isn't it?

God didn't call us to be that way, did he?

So I ask you now, will you respond to me positively so as to bring us together or will you continue to tell me how wrong I am?

It is our duty to expose error and those that teach it.

Eph. 5:6  Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
7  Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
8  For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
9  (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
10  Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.
11  And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them

Indeed,.nobody disagrees with this ......so rather than SLANDER a person simply expose them with substantial evidence......how many Scriptures warning  us that there are going to be false teachers is going to change the fact that we have not gotten ONE SINGLE shred of evidence to support these accusations....

Blogs are someones opinion as is gotquestions.org

Internet commentaries are hearsay & rumor

Websites AGAINST So & So are groups of people making accusations or claiming "they HEARD".....

What have YOU heard(by YOU I do mean anyone accusing anyone)

What have YOU seen.....How do you know?     I've heard nothing here except allegations with second hand info,;,,,,,,SLANDEROUS

I've SEEN photos of familiar faces from TV (edited) sermons titles "FALSE TEACHERS EXPOSED" !!!!! WHAT? Prove it!

I'll say it one more time & I ask each of you to examine your own heart......I don't approve ot disapprove of anyone of the people in that slanderous photo,I don't know any of them personally,I've not heard anything FALSE come out of their mouths(with my own ears) & some of them I Have only heard or listened to EDITED versions of sermons, certainly not enough to be their judge......and I am sure it is safe to say not any of you have heard or know any more than I(probably less by your own witness)

I believe msmuffet said she doesn't LISTEN to false teachers when someone asked if she ever heard any of the people she has accused of being a false teacher,,,,if I am mistaken then feel free to correct me......How would anyone determine one is a false teacher if they never listened to them, she says she does not watch TV & so where did she hear what they have to say?Because someone else said so? Is that the answer? NO,she said her own research, what research? Blogs? Commentaries? Gotquestions?   I'm sorry, that does not substantiate an eye witness account & therefore constitutes "bearing false witness"...or prove it other wise.....

I cannot sit by idly to watch any Brother or Sister repeatedly slander anyones name, not anyone without what the Word of God says you must

King James Bible

King James Bible
For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard.
Acts 22:15

Quote

Acts 4:20 - For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.

And what is a "witness".......witness is what we SEE & HEAR.....not read what someone else says

If enough credible people are saying the same thing then there must be some truth to it right? Or is it right? They say where there is smoke there is fire......Well,who are these CREDIBLE witnesses,,,,,,there lies the question.......these are serious accusations, not to be thrown around with no regard & not to be taken lightly......LISTEN For YOURSELF and take no ones word for it except the  Word of God.......test the spirits, guard your heart, guard your tongue

Could anyone imagine if everyone listened to the Pharisees, they said Jesus of Nazareth was a false teacher,a blasphemer.......imagine if nobody went to hear him preach that day when He gave the Sermon on the Mount?Because they didn't listen to false teachers?

I found that too. I just had to do some research on the Got Questions website and look at what their views were compared to the Word of God. Many do not like Got Questions because they do not line up with their false belief. That makes them angry.

Question: "Should we allow false teachers into our home?"

Answer:
The short letter of 2 John is written in part to warn believers against the influence of false teachers. John identifies them as those “who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh” and describes them as deceivers and antichrists (2 John 7). He goes on to prohibit receiving them into our homes or wishing them well. The question is whether this prohibition refers to those who knock on our doors today, such as Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses. Are we to deny members of these sects access to our homes?

It is important to understand exactly what it means that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh. Many cultists will agree that Jesus was a man of flesh and bone who walked the earth around 2,000 years ago. But that is not what John means here. He first addressed this issue in 1 John 4:2, telling us how to identify false teachers and the spirits who drive them. The first test of a true teacher/prophet of God is that he proclaims that Jesus is God incarnate in human flesh (John 1:14). A godly teacher will teach both the full deity and full humanity of Christ. The Holy Spirit testifies to the true nature of Christ, while Satan and his demonic host deny that true nature. That is why John identifies anyone who denies the deity of Christ—which both the Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses do—as deceivers and antichrists.

It is also important to understand the context of John’s epistle. John is writing to “the elect lady and her children” (verse 1). This lady was engaged in a ministry of hospitality. In the name of Christian love (verse 6), this kind-hearted woman was receiving itinerant preachers into her home, providing room and board for them, and sending them on their way with her blessing. John writes this quick note to her to warn her about the many false teachers who would gladly take advantage of her generosity. Her love needed to be tempered by truth. Boundaries had to be drawn. Hospitality should not be extended to charlatans, hucksters, and the devil’s own emissaries.

John gives the lady a litmus test: what does the preacher teach about Jesus Christ? If he is presenting the full deity and full humanity of Christ, then he can be welcomed into her home. However, if the teacher mitigates, obscures, or equivocates on the fact that Jesus was fully man and fully God, then the lady is to have nothing to do with him. Such false teachers are not to receive help from believers, not even so much as a greeting (verse 10). To give aid to the purveyors of false doctrine is to partake of their wickedness (verse 11).

What should be our response, then, when cultists come knocking at the door? It is not wrong to share the truth with them or to relate your testimony. We are called to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15). However, we must be careful not to do anything that would give the appearance that we approve of the cultists’ message. Never invite them into your home for an extended stay, never donate money to their cause, and never allow them to conduct a “Bible study” with you.

Here are some things to remember: First, cultists are master deceivers who are well trained in techniques that will confuse those whose knowledge of Scripture is limited—the very ones cultists most often seek out. Well-meaning and compassionate souls (like the “elect lady” in 2 John) dialog with cultists and can be fooled by them. Second, Christians are of Christ; cultists are anti-Christ (2 John 7), no matter how kind, sincere, and charming they may appear. Third, we are not to give the cultists or anyone else the impression that we see the cult as having legitimate claims, doctrines, or opinions. Fourth, Jesus tells us to “watch out” for false teachers (Matthew 7:15), and Paul tells us to “avoid them” (Romans 16:17) and declares them to be “accursed” (Galatians 1:8). Therefore, we should build no close associations with them. Fifth, John tells the lady not to “welcome” a false teacher (or bid him “God speed” in the KJV). This phrase in the Greek means to cheerfully or joyfully hail someone. In other words, we are not to bless false teachers or wish them well.

We are, of course, to be always ready with an answer for the hope that is within us (1 Peter 3:15), but we must do so in the Holy Spirit’s power, following His lead. When cultists knock at the door, it could be an opportunity to relate the truth about Jesus to them, or it could be an opportunity to “leave them; they are blind guides” (Matthew 15:14). In any case, we must rely the Lord’s wisdom (James 1:5) and be cautious not to cast our pearls before pigs (Matthew 7:6).

MsMeffut.....

No matter how many times you copy/paste ,put up pictures or quote the Scriptures that warns us there are false teachers still does not change the FACT that you have not provided ANY evidence that the people you have single handedly accused & judged here as being one of them......what did YOU hear any one of them say that opposes Gods Word with YOUR OWN EARS???????Just say it.....prove it  & then bring 2 others(here, the Body of Christ that we believe to be credible witnesses that have heard them say these things with their own ears) and actually  I would prefer the accused be here as well, that would be the way it should be done in the Body of Christ or as Paul says ......mind your business because if Christ is being preached,,,rejoice!!!!!If you have nothing t7o provide as EVIDENCE(first hand Msmuffet) then refrain from spreading rumor

Gotquestions.org does not hold water imo.......so what false beliefs do I believe?I refer to the Bible, thats the only commentary I want,Gods Word, not some guy on a question/answer website.........

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
