Parents urged to avoid gender-marketed gifts this Christmas

December 12, 20168:16pm
  •

PARENTS are being urged to buy their little boys a Barbie for Christmas this year as part of No Gender December.

Good Education Group chief executive officer Chris Lester is supporting the grassroots campaign, which is encouraging parents to avoid buying their children gender-marketed gifts.

“Kids should be free to decide which toys interest them, without being informed by gendered marketing that something is ‘for them’ or ‘not for them’,” a statement on the No Gender December website says.

In a blog post, Mr Lester said the movement correlated with the perception that STEM (Science, technology, engineering and maths) fields were dominated by men and avoided by women.

“Just as toy stores typically separate ‘girls’ from ‘boys’ toys, workplaces tend to be sharply divided between ‘pink’ and ‘blue’ jobs,” he wrote.

Earlier this month, the Institution for Engineering and Technology warned that gendered gifts could be turning young girls away from careers in technology and engineering.

The IET found boys were almost three times as likely as girls to receive science and maths toys for Christmas.

Mr Lester said there was a new wave of toys specifically being marketed as gender-neutral to encourage more girls to explore their interest in STEM.

“It might not be a quick fix but getting behind No Gender December is a good start to redressing this imbalance,” he said in his blog post.

“That means that the best present for your daughter this Christmas may not necessarily be a nerf gun, but rather a ‘Jewelbot’, a ‘Roominate set’ or ‘Goldieblox’,” he wrote.

The No Gender December campaign started in 2014 by advocacy group Play Unlimited.

It's not saying that he did.  It's talking about how up in Canada that gender is being assigned.  It's talking about the push to force people to refer to genders as "ze" "zher"  that you can no longer see yourself as male or female. The power structure will determine your gender.

In Canada laws have been passed against hate speech, but it is not clear what constitutes "hate speech"  particularly in relation to the gender issue.

It's not Marxism pers se, but has the same features basically, as well as the same results "Oppression."

I was also a tomboy. Hated playing with dolls. Never had a barbie. I liked matchbox cars, tonka trucks. Ran wild in the countryside. Fished, climbed trees, caught frogs etc.

So I dont wear make up as an adult. But I am not confused about which gender I am. And I have plenty of girly moments lol.

This whole gender thing today is just crazy. What is wrong with a girl being a girl or a boy being a boy?

Hi AJ,

I also played with Matchbox cars in the dirt and played soccer but I also laid out flowrrs for fairies and played with dolls and teddy bears.

Boys can play with any toy they want but to force them or deliberately guide them into a gender neutral -  no.

C'mon parents, please!

I made flower chains with clover. You slit part of its stem then slide another bit of clover through it. We had necklaces of them and crowns for our hair lol.

And then we would make forts out of broken branches laid against trees.

I feel sorry for my brothers. They missed out on this stuff. When they were of the age to roam freely, we had moved to arizona. They didnt get to do the cool stuff I did.

Buy a boy a Barbie doll??   While they are at it, buy him a training bra, get his nails painted pink, and get his ears pierced and by him a sun dress.

I am so tired of the emasculation and wimpification of modern male.

Boys need dirt bikes and BB guns and fishing rods.  They need to be taught how to  throw a football, change the oil and how to change a flat tire, not made into an effeminate freak.

amen

I would like to add that there is nothing wrong with buying a boy a doll if they want one or a girl a bb gun or a football if that is what they want.

Why can't we teach a girl to change the oil and a boy how to cook a good meal and still not be confused about their genders?

I did teach my girls to change oil, and boy to cook. Those are skills for life, nothing wrong with being able to take care of yourself. My children have all learned to shoot and how to safely handle a weapon, I have not encouraged any of them to buy one or own one, they can make that decision. None of my boys ever expressed interest in dolls (not even like G.I. Joe) and I doubt I would have bought them a Barbi had they asked. I never gave my kids toy tools either, since I have plenty of real ones around.

I am not a fan of adopting gender roles associated with opposite sexes, and I would not have allowed my boys to wear dresses, unless that was part of the culture, which it isn't where I live.

However, these things are not gender. Gender has to do with chromosomes, and body parts, not the kind of feelings you have inside. If you feel like a cat, a dog, a flower or a Martian, or that you are a different race, or you relate to amputees so much, that you wish you were one, too bad, discover reality!

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
