I never really knew where we got the Easter bunny and Easter eggs from. Now I know. I never celebrated Easter as a kid growing up with Easter baskets or egg hunts. Well i think once we did. We usually just went about our day, went to church and ate a wonderful dinner together as a family and said a prayer before hand. This is what I have always done and this is what I am doing today, w/o the church. So Happy Resurrection Day!

May peace be with you all!

It does appear, however, that Jesus rose from the dead on the VERY DAY of the feast of Ishtar! Now why would He do that?

Perhaps because He came to fulfill paganism as well as the prophecies of Judaism. The feast of Ishtar was a Spring festival, both celebrating, and with the ends of guaranteeing the 'new life' of Springtime. It was a fertility festival. How singularly appropriate the True Life of the Resurrection of our Lord springs forth upon this very day.

We should celebrate His resurrection every day, not just once a year. I really don't see the need to be picky about the days. The fact is He died, willingly because He loved us, conquered death and rose again. That's all that's important.

The three days is a very interesting topic as the original greek can be equally translated:

"Mar 16:1 When the Sabbaths [plural] had past, Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him."

This is noteworthy because it was prophecied that the Christ would be in the tomb for three days, that is three days and three nights. Popular convention falls short.

If Jesus was crucified and killed on Friday, he would have been in the tomb Friday and saturday night only and raised on Sunday, that would be only TWO nights and only ONE whole day!

Saturday is the weekly sabbath, but there are other, less frequent, Holy days which are also given the title of "sabbath" Perhaps the Passover was celebrated on the Friday which would mean that Christ, killed before the sabbath would have died on Thursday.

Even so, this still does not satisfy the prophecy because although he would be in the tomb Thursday, friday and Saturday nights (3 nights) he was still only in the tomb for 2 WHOLE days; Friday and Saturday.

However, we must remember that Jesus was a Jew, the Sabbaths were Jewish sabbaths and the days were measured as JEWISH days.

A Jewish day begins at the 9th hour (6pm) and finishes on the third hour (9am) or in simple terms a Jewish Day begins in the evening and finishes in the next morning; GEN 1:5 "And there was evening and morning and this was the first day"

So, this being the case, Jesus was in the tomb thurs/fri (day 1) fri/sat (day2) and sat/sun (day 3)

This is also an incredible parallel to the passover meal itself. The Passover lamb must be examined for four days in order that it should be found to be be spotless (without fault) and if it is found to be fautless, it is killed as an offering to God. Christ was in Jerusalem for Four days and was under very close scrutiny from all the Jewish priests and common folk, he was taken before Caiaphas and his associates where they tried endlessly to find a reasonable fault with him, but in the end had to take him to the governmental powers to do their dirty work. On the Fourth day Pilate announced that he could find no fault with Jesus...and yet he was still crucified, the spotless lamb slaughtered as an offering to God fo our sins.

Jesus entered Jerusalem on Sunday, the day after the sabbath, which means the fourth day, the day the passover lamb is sacrificed, would indeed have been THURSDAY.

Thanks New Pilgrim....that is the conclusion I have also come to over the years...I think the sanitized Christian version of the ressurection is gradually being replaced into its Jewish context where a depth and level of revealed truth will touch the Believers heart and spirit far more than the fast-food diet we have all become so accustomed to....but these things take time. ;)

A really good book on the subject is titled, "The Seven Festivals of the Messiah" written by Edward Chumney. It can be purchased from Christian Book Distributors for only $8.99. CBD

My understanding is that Jesus died exactly at 3 PM on Passover (Nisan 14), was in the grave for the first days of the seven day Feast of Unleavened Bread (Nisan 15 and Nisan 16) and rose on the Feast of First Fruits (Nisan 17), which was the day following the Sabbath, the first day of the Jewish week. The period was the first of three special celebrations during the Jewish year whereby "super" Sabbaths were observed.

A few things to remember is that Nisan is the FIRST month of the Jewish calendar, Sunday is the first day of the Jewish week (and actually begins Saturday at 6PM) and as NP already pointed out, the Jewish day begins at 6 PM, which is evening. So night comes before day.

According to the book, there are other significant events that occurred on the very same day at the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. The one that caught my eye? The day that the Israelites crossed the Red Sea AND Pharaoh's army was destroyed was on Nisan 17, which coincides with the Feast of First Fruits. Egypt being synonymous with the world and Pharaoh being a type of Satan demonstrates how God's people were freed and Pharaoh was destroyed releasing the Israelites from Pharaohs authority. Interesting, huh? Sound familiar?

The book is great and I highly recommend it. It discusses ALL the seven Festivals of the Lord and the three periods that they fall within. Seven---complete; Three---perfect and complete witness and testimony.

Be Blessed,

Wayne

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Pentecost (Shavuot) is the second of three special celebrations and coincides with the day that Moses first met God on Mount Sinai. :20: It takes place Fifty days from the crossing of the Red Sea AND the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Once again, coincidence or divine plan? ;)

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
