Not yet. The city of Damascus won't be destroy till sometime after Israel officially joins the war in Syria. I've been telling this to other people on another Christian site for almost 4 years. We're only now seeing the early signs of fulfillment to Isaiah 17 in the near horizon.

• And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and will be led captive into all the nations; and Jerusalem will be trampled under foot by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.  Luke 21:24

Yes, it is a very significant sign.  It indicates that the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

This can't be a reference to Revelation 17:8.  Israel did not come up out of the abyss.  The beast did and he is an evil angel, the same evil angel that spawned Rome.
