Christ said you must be born again. That which is born of the spirit is spirit. That which is born of the flesh is flesh.

No one can live in the spirit until they are born of the spirit.

You can only live by the flesh of you have not been born again. So you can only sin. King David had Gods spirit and was born again.

The prophets were all born again. So was Moses. We need the regeneration of the holy spirit to live in newness of spirit.

That is part of being saved. You cannot just stop sinning and make yourself right before God until your born again.

It takes the conviction of the spirit of God to wake you up of being a sinner. Then one can go and pray for forgiveness and call on the name of the lord. Then one becomes born again and can kill sin and out on the new man.

      That's how it is.

Those of the OT had His Spirit upon them.  They were not born again as Christ had not yet come, nor did He return to the Father so the Holy Spirit could come and reside in us.

Then how are they in the first resurrection  ?

I am not sure about this, there is a distinction found even in the Old Testament?

Genesis 6:3  Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.”

Exodus 31  The Lord said to Moses, 2 “See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, 3 and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with ability and intelligence, with knowledge and all craftsmanship,

Numbers 14:24  But my servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit and has followed me fully, I will bring into the land into which he went, and his descendants shall possess it.

Numbers 27:18  So the Lord said to Moses, “Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your hand on him."

Psalm 51:11  Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.

What was the purpose of Jesus going to the heart of the earth if it were not to set the captive free?

If God's Spirit always resided in His people of old, then why bother with the Holy Spirit Jesus sent to us?  Think about it ...

I think it was only a few like David and Moses all the prophets. But most Israelites did not receive the spirit.

Because it is impossible. No one can be born again without repenting and receiving forgiveness through Christ.

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:
who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God." - John 1:12-13

And no one can overcome the flesh and the world without being born again. People are not born again by "accident".

"But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you.
Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His." - Romans 8:9

"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God." - Romans 8:14

I think the difference is that God poured His Spirit out after Pentecost.  In the Old Testament times God was more selective in regards to who was filled with the Holy Spirit, and whom the Spirit came upon.  That is what the examples I posted indicate to me, that there was a difference before.

In regards to the question you asked Wayne about the captives, they were captive until Jesus was risen.  He could not lead them out of captivity until after He was resurrected.

"He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.
    But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive;
for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified." - John 7:38-39

"This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?" - Galatians 3:2

"For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality;
that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor,
not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God;" - 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5

"Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven." - Matthew 7:21

Glory to God! Amen.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
