I don't know what your take is on secular music, but most of the Elvis movies should be out on DVD. Also, there is a hilarious DVD that's usually on eBay entitled "Hillbillies In A Haunted House." It starts Don Bowman (60's country comedian), Ferlin Husky, Joi Lansing, Lon Chaney, and others. It does contain some country songs but it's a funny movie. You can usually find it on eBay for next to nothing so it's worth trying out.

I used to watch Elvis movies when I was younger. As I recall, they were pretty harmless. Since I grew up in the 50's & 60's my favorite secular music is Rock & Roll. Most songs from that era were pretty harmless. Some were mildly suggestive. Some I could do without entirely.

My husband and I love to watch movies. This is one of our main ways of relaxing. Our children are all grown, so they are no longer an issue for us. We have the TV Guardian, which is a box that cuts out the bad language through replacing words in the CC, if the movie is marked CC. So, in most cases, that is not an issue.

Nonetheless, we are having great difficulty finding anything decent to watch that we have not already seen a bunch of times. We don't want to watch anything with sex, nudity, sexual situations, sexual humor, crude or rude humor, etc. And, we don't want to watch anything where people are sleeping together outside of marriage, or where there are extramarital affairs or honestly where any sin is glorified and laughed at and regarded as ok.

We also do not want to watch anything demonic or with extreme violence, gore, blood and guts, etc. Mild violence is ok if appropriate with the story line and is not just thrown in there just to have gore.

So, we find ourselves going through the movie rentals and ruling out 95% of them, and the 5% that are remaining we have seen enough times. I know this is long, but does anyone have any recommendations of movies that are clean-cut?

Thanks! I appreciate these links. All this has been very helpful!!

Oh, BTW, my husband and I rented one of the movies recommended, "Secondhand Lions," and we loved it. It has some language, but it is a great movie! I laughed and cried through it, which is a good thing. I would recommend it to anyone!!

"Save the Last Dance" is real good though it may have some language.

---ballet dancer gets forced to move into the ghetto, and re-evaluate her dreams, falls in love ect ect.

"A walk To Remember" is the best!!!!! ***grins*** I love that movie. I even have the sound track.

Big Fish was okay. My twin LOVED it. but I didn't quite like it.

What about The Lord of the Rings??? There is no language...no sexual stuff. but there is some violence. You know....Orks verses Frodo bearer of the ring.

Gulliver's Travels? That is an old one. but I remember watching it all the time.

Well... 28 Days (with Sandra Bullock NOT 28 Days Later....) has some language, and a few serious kisses. But I laughed so hard , and cried so hard, and I just seriously loved that movie. It's about this woman who falls into drugs and partying and she had a hard past, and she goes to rehab (hence 28 days) and she has to face all the things that have happened to her , and in the process you see her character change, and her change the lives of others. I just loved it.

Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sister Hood. Again, has Sandra Bullock (I love Sandra Bullock) It has a few cursewords. But, there's nothing graphic. The movie is hilarious, and touching.

Mrs.Congeniality= Sandra Bullock= minimal cursing. Cop goes under cover in a beauty pageant, and she is like totally not the beauty queen material and no one thinks she can pull it off, but she does. and you will laugh a lot.

Lemony Snicket's A Tale Of Unfortunate Events= no bad language, nothing bad. It's a movie taken from the book. It's about well...a serious of unfortunate events that these kids come out of.

The Bone Collector= Denzel Washington, no sex, minimal graphics (a little blood, a little bone fragments...literally), I cannot remember about the language though. It's a mystery that will keep you guessing till the end. Again, this is one of my favorite movies. It got me totally into forensic science.

James and the Giant peach. = movie that merges into cartoon. Involves James, a lady bug who is not a lady, a spider, and urm a worm...I think. Jame's wild adventure takes him to New York where justice is served to his evil aunts.

Balto (1 and 2) I really enjoyed those two cartoons. Balo is a dog/wolf that is trying to figure out where he belongs, he goes on the big sled race, and gets the medicine for the sick people, and saves the town. He falls in love. ect.

Balto 2 Balto's daughter is discovering her purpose, and Balto has to let his little pup grow up into the leader she was born to be.

Never Been Kissed= Drew Barrymore= really cute movie, she's a newsreporter and goes back to school pretending to be a student.

LOL me thinks I watch too much t.v. :P:):P

Oh yeah, Did any one say Sweet Home Alabama? That's pretty good. Reese Witherspoon and Josh Lucas grow up as child hood friends only to reunite later in life, after Reese has been in the big city and engaged. they meet again and her world is turned upside down. One of the themes from the movie is "Sometimes What You're Looking For Is Right Where You Left It."

National Treasure= Nicholas Cage= is SOOOO Good!!!!!! I watched it is school for history class lol. It just now came out on DVD. It had nothing bad at all in it. Just plain good treasure huntin.

My mom loves this movie. Our whole family like it. We bought the soundtrack. There are a few down sides to it. On the trailers, all the idiot producers show is the bar scene where the characters are dancing, but it is totally not about the bar, or the dancing. I didn't want to suggest this, and then ya'll freak out. So I did some research. I went to http://www.christiananswers.net/spotlight/home.html and looked up first the trailer, and then the reviews. Some were good. and some not so good. But I picked a few that I thought portrayed a good view of the movie. So here goes:

I don't think the movie is about half naked women dancing on a bar. That was obviously the intended advertisement to get a following of the public. This movie is actually about a young female with dreams who moves to New York to pursue them. It is a realistic view of what might happen to a young 21 yr. old female who moves to New York to become famous. If even, a very pampered and padded view of what might happen. A brief glance at a female who finds work in a bar with females dancing. I did not find it offensive, but uplifting. She pursued her dreams, and actually, she had it pretty easy compared to most young dreamers who travel to live in New york. I think this movie was excellent! My Ratings: [3/4]

  --Lauren

Coyote Ugly was an inspiring chick flick with a few flaws. Girls can be inspired by the "girl pursues dreams and overcomes obsticals" plot and guys will be somewhat disappointed by the actual lack of naked girls dancing on a bar. The only major flaw of this movie was the fact that she is sleeping with her boyfriend (of course in what movie aren't they). That was the most offensive (if I dare use such a strong word) part of the movie. The rest of the movie was light hearted fun. My Ratings: [3/3]

  --Lee

^^I don't even think they show them sleeping together or anything, it apparently is insinuated though.

Ah... here's another that I forgot about...

"Luther"  it's a GREAT movie!!!  I was hesitant to rent it at first... but let me tell you it was FOR SURE worth it!  Everyone should see it!  It's about Martin Luther and the Reformation.... they did a good job with the facts and also it's got a great story line that has you hooked from the start :)

Just remembered it... A ++ movie!

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I agree that it is a great movie - very violent, though, but then, that is what it is about. I learned a lot about Martin Luther and the Reformation that I had not known before. The best part for me was when he stood before the Catholic leaders who I believe were asking him to stop doing what he was doing, and he said, "Here I stand, I can do no other." Wow! If we would all take that kind of a stand for Christ a great revival would break out for sure, because revival begins with Christians.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
