A strong start to our monsoon season. I thought folks might like to get an idea of what its like in sunny az in the summer monsoon. We have had some wild weather. Rain, haboobs, high winds, lots of power outages, over the past 4 days.

One storm laid waste to 4 transmission towers.

Another storm caused a 20 car train derailment.

Downed trees all over the place, and downed cacti.

Our "damage" consists only of a few mesquite bean pods on our property from the neighbors tree, and one of my smaller cacti is leaning a bit.

Oh my, those are some photos!   That downed cactus is soooo huge!    I wonder how old it was?   What type of cactus do you have?  On my visits to Phoenix to visit family, I grew an appreciation for cactus.    Went to the desert garden a couple of times.

On a street near me, a little, old, Asian lady landscaped a lawn area for a business.  She put in cactus, succulents and large cement blocks/metal sculptures.   She was quite talented.   The Saguaro and the Barrel cactus are quite big now.

Getting back to the Monsoon, our mountains, desert and inland areas got soaked!  But we in the Basin are as dry as can be....

That saguaro was probably at least 200 yrs old, and 2 tons. Also worth (prior to falling) several thousand dollars.

We have a large mexican fence post cactus, with limbs that tend to fall now and then too. The limbs are a couple of hundred pounds each.

The one that is starting to bend and likely will fall is a cleistocactus. Mike had to move my thelocactus out of the way so it doesnt get damaged when the limbs fall. I have some other cactus and want to get more.

Do you think you could post a couple of photos of your cactus garden?  Would love seeing it.

Do you get alot of the lizards, scorpions and Black Widows?  One place my uncle lived in had alot of Black Widows on the back patio!  Then when he had his home for several years, a little lizard visited me in the bathroom!

I have orkin come once a month to spray. That cut down on the big ugly hairy spiders I was seeing, along with the annoying crickets. I rarely see black widows any more because of the spraying, but they are quite common around phoenix. Basically you do not stick your hand anywhere you cant visibly look into first.

Scorpions are the bane of my existence lol. They do not die well and are determined to take you down too if you try and kill them. They are fast and mean. Spraying does not work with them either so you have to have a special preparation for them around the house. Diatomaceous earth works on them. It slices their belly so they die.

We dont have as many lizards as I would like to have. Ive seen very few lizards on our patio this year. Perhaps because there is a groundsnake hanging around. Plus some feral cats. And mockingbirds. They all eat lizards.

We stopped at Mesa for a week last time we went to visit my sister in Oregon.

We took a drive out road 88 to 188 then down to US 60 and back to Mesa....   It took all day and was a really cool day drive.....    somewhere out toward the end of 88 in a wide spot in the road there was a restaurant with some decent food that had the walls papered with real dollar bills...    literally thousands of them..

Personally I like the desert but my wife really doesn't.

Oh, I do love the chirping crickets at night.  For many, many years our area never had crickets....was so glad when we finally got some on the patio!  But those scorpions, I would have a really hard time with them!  I squealed the couple of times I saw a huge water beetle and they aren't dangerous!  And someone else had to get rid of it!

I never saw a scorpion while visiting in Phoenix.  I'm ok with the lizards.

There are alot of good restaurants in Phoenix area....can remember going to some family type ones.   Also, we went to the Farrell's Ice Cream parlor in Scottsdale to eat.   I wonder if it's still there.   The waiters wore stripes and old time hats...old fashioned decor, too.  Nice place.

Now that dates you lol. That place is long long gone. Easily a couple of decades gone.

Diatomaceous earth might not  be all that grand on a lizard's belly either. Lizards do eat scorpions.

I have a personal dumb cactus story from my long distant past, thanks for reminding me of it. The punchline from the long story goes; My driver new to California asks me, "Hey what are those plants out there? Me, awakening from a nap  while riding shotgun in a very hot car without airconditioning in the summer and responding to the driver's questioning ; Oh those, they are  just Yuccas and some few Saguaros-whoa where are we?!! There are no saguaros between Riverside and Pomona! You went through what? A sign said Cajon Pass, really? Oh oh, how much gas do we have? We are a long long way out from our destination of Westminster, Ca.  And are we in trouble now.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
