oh ouch

while I can agree with the sentiment, I ask if they cannot pay the standard fee for adoption..which is really already pretty low...can they pay for the upkeep, vet visits, food etc for the animal they adopt?

believe me my heart is with you as far as shelter animals go but the problem still seems to be reproduction and increasing numbers of entire litters of puppies in shelters.....I follow several rescue groups on fb so this is a fair statement

I happen to have 2 of the breeds most often found in shelters and it is heartbreaking if you love animals...I do and dogs in particular

I agree with adopt don't shop as a good motto...but I do have 2 rescued and 2 bought.

it's an awful problem...and I've read that perfectly fine animals are put down to make room for more 'strays' or left off unwanted pets

I guess I'm not really solving any problems here...I think it would be fair to say this is somewhat of a multifaceted problem and begins possibly with not enough consequences for mistreatment, abandoning cats or dogs and so on

Here in Los Angeles the city shelters and rescue groups don't allow an unspayed or unneutered animal to leave the shelters.   They spay/neuter them very young, if they are adopted.   They realized even if some people say they will spay/neuter, some people don't follow through.

Also, L.A. encourages foster care volunteers to help when the shelters are overcrowded.  This clears up space.  Recently there were 3 cases of animal hoarding so it overwhelmed the city shelters....so the news put out a call for foster volunteers.   I think you have to complete a class to become a foster helper.

Recently some shelter pets were also flown to another State that needed pets.   Volunteer pilots help with this.

we are not all socially/physically/mentally privileged people. I lived in San Pedro too and that was a cakewalk compared to some other areas I have lived in here.

Ha. As they say,  why even some of my friends are Los  Angelites.

Yown I know there are very lovely individuals at the City of Angeles and the area. I just don't know why. Why stay?

Why LA stretches all the way to Thousand Oaks and Riverside, maybe even San Bernadino now. People commute through the places people used to commute from to get to work at Los Angeles.

I spent twenty years penalized there in two separate stretches, have two tear tattoos representing LA.

Back to four legged critters.

BTW Smudge has made an appearance today. It is such a skinny little kitty,  it approached to where I had let it food before. So I put some more out, it first went away  but came back to see what was left. It ate and drank and just laid down., didn't seem to be resting so much as was exhausted. It  will sit at the door looking in, but has no trust if the door handle is turned. Our own cat is having none of this. We are having to teach it not to go all nutso into a screeching howling fit because of this other cat. Lots of fun that effort.  Two Feral cats, oh boy-

Anyway Smudge got some food and water. We will be working on getting it to to some better health and seeing if we can get her calmed and receptive to humans, then who knows maybe the human society if we can't find someone that will want it.

Animal lovers:  This might be an idea one of your TV news stations might do in order to help reduce the numbers of cats, dogs and other animals at the city shelters.

Here in L.A., our channel 4 news does a regular "clear the shelters" event.   We just had one on August 18.   All of the pets' adoption fees are reduced to $20 and the news reporters keep encouraging people to adopt.  They also go to various city animal shelters and videotape the animals and their new families.

Channel 4 has been doing this since 2015 and over 231,000 pets have been adopted!

For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God,” (Romans 8:19), and, “You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:26).

Could pet adoption and our efforts to help wildlife be the fulfillment of Romans 8:19? That at last the animals are seeing us, the sons and daughters of God revealed? :)

That's great, Neighbor, you are helping Smudge.   Usually once the cats get used to the scent of each other, they will adjust to each other.  It just takes a little time.... hopefully just several days.

Funny thing happening in our big underground garage.    Someone has been setting out food and water by one of the cars.  What makes it funny is that they first put out a small scratch post by the dishes.   Then a few days later one of those incline scratchers appeared, too!   I never see the cat...it must hear the elevator or people and hide.

Years ago I fed some stray cats in front of the building.   But I also fed a couple in the underground garage.  But I fed them in the back late at night trying not to be seen.  But whoever is feeding the cat now is in plain view of the security cameras!   They are braver than me....with this crazy management, they might look for any reason to evict in order to charge more rent!

Btw, the reason I go down to the garage is that I need to dump the trash there.   The crazy management got mad at us tenants this year, locked all of the trash chutes and told us all to take it downstairs to the garage dumpsters.

Sounds like the management at the apartments I lived in, except they added Persecution of anyone who was Christian and Catholic. I foundmyself joining our brothers and sisters in China and Syria in Persecution. Suffice to say, it made me better understand this verse, “Now if we are children, then we are heirs--heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.” (Romans 8:17).

I feel sorry for the cats in the garage, however, from the management’s point of view it can be nightmare if more than one cat gets in garage and breeds. I saw a show where a whole house was taken over by 200-500 cats and it wasn’t pretty; rescuers went in and it took a day to get them all out.

When I fed the stray cats years ago, I got them all spayed and neutered with the help of a rescue volunteer.  Then through the years they got adopted, died or moved on.   So now I don't see any... although I know they are around.

Our underground garages are open-air....that is, the iron gates have spaces wide enough for any cats to go in and out.

If I ever find out who is feeding the stray, I'll tell them about the free spaying and neutering that is available in Los Angeles.   It's free, even for ferals.

P.S.  This management took over three years ago and has done plenty of crazy stuff.   You wouldn't believe some of it.

I see, then there is no feasible way to keep cats out of underground garage. In that case it might not become a problem.

I surmise they ceased letting you use garbage shoots because they didn’t want to haul the garage. Ugh.

Are you spending much to be at this apartment?

as far as I know, all animals leaving shelters are neutered.  I agree that should be done before they are adopted out.  there is a problem there though that cannot be solved ... apparently, new research is revealing that it is better not to neuter so young as the dogs need the hormones for protection from cancers and other things as well.

that research is noteworthy in light of the almost epidemic cancers in dogs.  so it's kind of a catch 22 situation...but I agree that a shelter should always neuter whether the animal is young or not

some rescue groups do have a network for getting a dog across the country but not all.  I wanted to adopt a Husky from a rescue group in LA (which is overflowing with huskies) but they didn't network so that fell through.

yeah I've read about the rescue pilots...good things going on for dogs

Some people on the first floor left trash bags laying when the trash chutes got jammed full of garbage.   All the management needed to do was to keep the chutes clear.....like our wonderful old manager did (they got rid of him, he was a Christian and did EVERYTHING around the building).   Now these new managers only collect rent checks and call for a maintenance problem.   We had 8 or 9 managers the last three years after this new company took over.

Yes, we pay alot, nearly $1200 a month for one bedroom....but that is very, very cheap for Los Angeles.

My neighbor went to the shelter with his nephew as his nephew wanted to get a dog.   Someone threw a beautiful husky or Malamute through the shelter door.   She is beautiful and so loving.   Anyhow, my neighbor grabbed her by the collar and took her home!  She just adores my neighbor....her name is Mala....she loves me, too.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
