I bought an audio Bible . . . and although it had rave reviews, I personally have a hard time listening to it.

I don't think it matters if I explain why - I just don't like it. Plain and simple.

Sooooooo -

I was wondering if others out there had any recommendations for audio Bibles.

Please also explain why you like it, as I need that for evaluation.

Thanks!

I have a audio bible...I have to say I love it :b:

NKJV on cassette, 2002 Hendrickson Publishers, Inc.

I got it about 3 years ago...now don't get me wrong nothing takes the place of sitting and reading your bible.

The man reading has a very nice voice and there is soft music played in the background...and if I may say his pronunciation is much better than mine :)

Now the only time I use it is at bedtime...if I've had a hectic day and am stressed I always choose a chapter and pop it in...and I can lay there and relax...I'm also amazed at how many things I've picked up on audio and not reading...probably because I'm still and quiet...nothing to disturb me.

I have to say that my friend also had an audio bible...and no offense but I just did not like the persons voice...I know that sounds trite...but I asked to hear a sample before I bought this one.

Love and Blessings,

Angel

If you type in Audio Bile on the internet you can find info.

I recently learned that Gregory Peck read the Bible KJV (at least the NT) and it is on CD etc.. I think his voice is nice, but does he read it carefully and doesn't miss words? I would like to check it out.

I would say and some will think I'm mad, but DO NOT get the NIV or even the NKJV. Only the old KJV. There is corruption in the modern versions.

Paul Mims has a sober, easy to listen to voice and like Scourby, he probably doesn't miss one word. He is the one I have listened to for years.

James Earl Jones, the big African American actor also has his voice reading the NT.

But I listened to Rom. 3 to check out his voice and he missed a few words in reading or replaced them with his own (perhaps from familiarity and not being careful enough).

To me that is not acceptable. I would NEVER buy Jones' recording because I picked up 3 errors in a short time. But he reads with a tone of voice showing more understanding of some of Pauls writings than what I've heard in Scourby or even Mims.

Scourby reads parts of Romans with a tone of voice that strongly suggests to me that he is an eternal securitist. So it is a little sickening to bear with him when he reads certain portions of Paul, but the gospels and other places are done very well by him. I would not buy Scourby's recording.

Recently I am listening to Steven Stephens recording of the NT. I have only heard him read Matt. and I have gotten used to his voice but at first was very annoyed by it (a little over dramatising and over pronounced)

There is a site where you can download free small portions of various narrators who read the Bible. I suggest you get a sample of the voices before you buy.

You can get Gregory Peck's reading at audible.com. You can hear a sample but I didn't care for it.

What I have and listen to quite often is by Alexander Scourby. It is an add on to the Online Bible software. You can download the software for free, but the audio part is $50 I think.

Audio Bible

Online Bible

It only plays on the computer, but I listen with cordless headphones so I can be anywhere in the house.

It wouldn't be too dificult to make tapes or audio CD if I wanted to. It depends on what you plan to do with it.

You can download an audio bible from here for free. A lot of other good stuff too.

I have the NKJV, Hendrickson Publishers, read by Stephen Johnston. (58 CDs) I spent a long time picking it out. I have a thing about sound, and I have to admit some voices do irritate my ears. But not Stephens! I love it, and listen to it almost daily, especially at night.

Here's what Hendrickson Publishing has to say about Stephen:

Stephen Johnston is known and recognized for his expressive baritone voice. He is a committed Christian who has been involved in many facets of the radio and television industries, and his outstanding work has been honored with an Emmy Award, a Film Critics Award, and nine Angel Awards.

Also, Nebula, there is a soft instrumental background which is quietly pleasant, rather than intruding on God's word. Yes, this is the one I really liked listening to in the store, so home with me it came!

I hope you find one you really enjoy, and can reap the wonderful benefits of hearing God's word.

God Bless. :emot-dance:

I have the KJV read by alexander scorby and have listened to it many many times when driving in years past. (3 to 6 thousand miles a month).

I upgraded to the NASB last year but my wife has it most of the time. I've listened to the new testament well over 200 times.

Also, have to say, I spent a long time researching which translation of the Holy Bible would be the best for me, before I even went to the bookstore. I knew I wanted the Audio Bible to include both the Old and New Testament. I read lots, and lots, and lots of debates over the best translations of the Bible. I think I was just about cross-eyed before I was done. In the end I decided on 3 criteria that were extremely important to me:

1) The New Testament should be translated from the Textus Receptus or Majority Greek rather than Critical Text.

2) It had to be as readable, or this case as hearable, as possible without sacrificing accuracy.

3) The Hebrew and Greek texts had to be translated as word for word as possible.

I spent a long time on the computer comparing versions that met these criteria, and decided the the best one for me was the New King James Version. :P

Well, Neb...there you have it. Hope it was helpful to you.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
